Prototype is a dormant series that should be resurrected. What this game does best is make you feel limitless in your power. You feel like all your enemies are flies, and yet the game isn't easy. It is hard to find that balance in any game. If you make the game too easy, it becomes boring. Too hard and it becomes frustrating. This game presents some great challenges while still making you feel like an all powerful being. It's definitely worth a play and hopefully Prototype 3 will come some day.
The game follows Alexander J. Mercer who wakes up in a morgue in the basement of Gentek, a genetic engineering company based in Manhattan, sending a pair of scientists that were just about to perform an autopsy running. Alex escapes, and witnesses the scientists being gunned down by military operatives. Alex is discovered and attacked. He survives bullets being fired into his chest, and leaps over a wall to safety. He soon discovers he now possesses powerful shapeshifting abilities, superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, senses, endurance, weaponry and the ability to "consume" people to gain their memories, skills and appearance. With no memory of his previous life, Alex decides to find and consume those related to the conspiracy in order to uncover the truth.
As always we have included relevant gameplay, important dialogue and all cutscenes to create one fluid cinematic experience. Enjoy!

It would have been a great story line for P2 if Alex tried to find a way to turn himself back to human by eliminating his superpowers then later find out his power only grow stronger, then the human race is infected by other virus and he is the only being who can fight the new monsters, so he learn his action itself can define him as a good human again.... and the producer wasted all the design of Alex, and made a shitty story of that black dude

I thought in the comics he found a secret facility trying to replicate the parasite inside him by left over DNA and were able to create a clone but it went AWOL then reeked havoc on New York that’s when Heller came around to stop it then The real Alex comes in trying to find out who it was that started the outbreak again and found out it was the Clone at the ending he was watching Heller best the shit out of it then consumed it because throughout their battle the Clone didn’t use the same abilities Mercer had in Proto 1

@@tsayin2662 I was thinking about the visual style lol you know since prototype story isn't something really new or fantastic it will turn into a bland generic movie if it doesn't have skme other great aspects to blance that , hence it needs a really good soundtrack and awesome visuals so I thought how about snyder since he made 300 which was a generuc movie story wise but its visuals made it awesome to watch.
Even though there's already a prototype 2, I remain loyal to 1. Alex Mercer is the best :D

Keep seeing or hearing that "Alex" lost himself during the second game. Listen Alex Mercer died from before the events of prototype 1, the entire time the black Light virus had taken over his body and mutated, the virus itself only had Alex's appearance it wasn't Alex in any way. Also Alex was the one who released the virus in New York and got shot and killed just before he did which was how the virus managed to copy his entire genetic code.

The conspiracy theory (the whole 'Alex lost himself' thing) is kind of exasperating. Though afaik, they covered Mercer's personality switch between 1 and 2 in some little-known comics. Apparently it's because a girlfriend stole his wallet or something, I don't remember the specifics. Just that it was weak and cemented my dislike of 2.
I still wish "the virus" wouldn't have turned into the main antagonist of the second game. I actually loved the character and it was sad seeing him become evil. I wish him and James would have teamed up to fight pariah

Yes, I was pissed when I played the second and discovered Mercer was the villain. It was not necessary to flip him, uneeded, his look, personality and concept could've created a franchise in itself. He was even an avatar on PS4 and many didn't know who he was thinking it was a stock character or confused him for an Assassins Creed Ezio Aduitore avatar.

Replaying Prototype 2 and watching this, I gotta say this game is much deeper and emotional. All the twists here, the mysteries, how depressing it really is and the fact that we think we're playing as a person looking for revenge until we realize that this person is both a terrorist and dead. Amazing.
Prototype had such a dark story, the scene at the end where Mercer says "When I close my eyes I relive the experiences of a thousand dead men screaming before I take their lives" was chilling. Prototype 2 had a decent story but they changed Alex Mercer's character so much and the main motivation of Heller was revenge for his wife and daughter. Both had incredible gameplay however.

A non-human organism hiding amongst mankind that comes to care about humanity enough to risk its life to save them. Then the sequel tosses all that out the window and to give us the generic guy who wants revenge ends up saving everyone plot. I am so mad I want to write my own version of Prototype where the Alex Mercer character doesn't go off the deep end.

Mercer is more in a grey line between the virus, blackwatch, and people. He has his own side and kills without mercy because of this.

the creature from The Thing seems to share similarities. Only it thinks of eat, multiply, rinse and repeat. So is the Necromorphs, only they are on a galactic scale compared to the virus. Unlike the virus, neither of the previous 2 give anyone such mutations leading to an evolved. They only consume. Also compared to The Flood, something I think could possibly assimilate the virus, is on a galactic scale and only consumes. Thinking is what separates the virus from the other mentioned creatures. The others have no thoughts, no feelings, no wants, and no needs. The Floor, The Thing, and the Necromorphs can only consume, and only have one mind, the hive mind. Though the flood seems to be the superior of all listed, what with how the Flood cells assimilate anything and everything even slightly organic. And the bad thing is, the others are organic. The virus is the only one that actually has individuals amongst the infected who can think for themselves. Never be related to The Flood.

That is NOT Alex at the end. It's the virus, taking his form. That's the reason he acted so unlike himself in the sequel. Alex Mercer is dead, virus is not.

Wanted to let anyone who sees this know, because it really is an interesting bit of plot that I didn't get the first time around.
the virus in mercer mutated and changed him completely he then spread "The Mercer Virus" which was parts of him through the streets to infect manhatten but before he was fully taken over he infected james heller so that heller can fight the new mercer consume him and wipe out the entire virus thats why after heller consumes mercer he erupts in tendrills and they pull all the infected into him that wasn't a devastator attack it was him consuming alex mercer meaning 1.)Alex mercer never was at 100% fighting heller probably 10% 2.) Alex is the main hero he used heller to wipe out the entire virus completing his main mission at the end of prototype 1 of defeating the virus
This was is explained in the game that alex is dead and the virus is alive.

Like, there's literally no way to play this game without murdering THOUSANDS of innocent people. Like, Alex is not a good guy. He's not even an okay guy. At best he's wronged man dealing with a horrible situation, but his heel turn is not far fetched. Prototype is a game about destroying New York City, and Prototype 2 is about the aftermath.

Some diamonds cannot be forgotten.Prototype used to be my favorite game when i played it in 2010,it's atmosphere was dark and fluent,easily could enter you to it's world.Although the years passed,and the dissapointment of Prototype 2,every time i play it raises my pulse and temperature and seems even better.The entire concept was believable,unlike the second installment where the soldiers looked like modern ninjas and the infected(except the Juggernauts,which i admit they were magnificent)were similar to epic fantasy creatures(dragons,demons).As for the gameplay,Alex's agility was unique,something absent in Prototype 2(Heller felt ''heavy'' to me).The only disadvantage was the graphics,but that could easily be passed since it's highlights could cover it.I wish they would make another one like the first(with improved graphics of course)but seems a fantasy now that Radical closed.

Sadly after all this he threw away his old identity, Alex Mercer, and went on to be a living virus that plagued the world.
He knew as long as he exists the virus would spread. Driven mad by his situation he became a monster seeking only to force his cruel fate on everyone else. Alex Mercer died, what you see is a creature, even more true when he realises he’s not Alex Mercer anymore.
In Prototype 2 that isn’t Alex. The thing you face in 2 is just like the test subject you let loose in this one. She is the virus. Now Alex is the virus.They know nothing of who they were anymore and simply live to infect the world.
Since there won’t be a Prototype 3. I would speculate that James Heller would be captured and turned into an enemy in 3. His strain of the virus making another Alex Mercer in a super solider program. There would be conflict over the morals which releases Heller and accidentally spreads the virus. Ending in a perfect cure that kills Heller and all far gone mutated instantly.
Prototype is one of my favourite games. Who wouldn’t want to have Alex Mercer’s powers.
Alex was better as a protagonist in the first because it was like he's infected and is one with the virus and is part of the reason the outbreak happened because his colleagues he was working with were being silenced so he got paranoid and took a sample of the virus he was working on and attempted to escape the city because he knew an outbreak was going to happen. and they were going to soon come yo silence and kill Alex next.
Even as Alex as the virus from what I read about his past life and traits he shares the same personality as his original human counterpart. He still has Alex somewhere in him within the virus and it shows that throughout the game as he tried to make things right by stopping the spread of the virus because thought it was right.
Prototype2 just threw it all away and made the character of Alex do things he would never do in the first game Its like they are 2 different people. This is why prototype 2 failed and radical was shut down leading to no sequel, it's sad really

The radio chatter in this game is so believable. And the conspiracies keeps me immersed as well. Legendary game right there.
The first game is was very grounded and realistic when it came to the military forces. PROTOTYPE 2 made them comical James Bond villains that are cringe.

Number 2's gameplay is really awesome, though not a fan of Heller, I unlocked alex mercer, and play it non stop. I really like the story in number 1 though, 2's was just stupid, almost no plot twist, and heller swearing every minute of the game.

Malik Thompson I recommend it. Even though I played the original Prototype and the second one on PS3 it's still a blast to play on PS4. Just to let you know this isn't necessarily one of those games you play for the story well most preferably the second game but it's a really fun game that'll make you feel like a bad ass.

This game was awesome. I loved becoming a soldier and fighting the infected on the streets just with a gun.
My favorite part is disguising as a soldier and fist fighting infected and the military doesn’t seem to care that you clearly have super human strength

This was such a great game i really enjoyed it playing. But whole plot was so confusing to me in the begining, but in the end it was like some of those CSI series on TV... WE SOLVED THE CASE !!!

Just finished the game again, i think might be 7th time or so since i have played it for the first time. Wanted to say - Alex's voice (the actor's) is so hot, a lot better than in P2, also darker, more melancholic and mysterious. I understand now why Prototype has taken the route of P2, why they turned Zeus into villain (it's also understandable if you read the comic) but still. I understand that virus erased Mercer's mistakes and set into it's own journey to understand it's purpose on existing, it's only logical for virus to spread, since that's simply it's function, but still meh. This great game didn't deserved such a bad continuation, and yeah, i know it's Zeus (blacklight) but still it copies the original form, which is of Alex Mercer with his human emotions and thoughts (that's why in P2 he still cares and saves Dana. So therefore i do not acknowledge P2 as legitimate continuation of P1, in my mind it's a separate game inspired by P1, if you look at it from this perspective it can be even good

Why did you considerate in a imaginary way the second part some non canonical sequel?I mean it s hard to accept i know 😢😂 but considering how the first game ended at least we did know what happens next instead of just speculating on only the first game, i wish they return somehow but as i said in one previous comment a 3 prototype game would be with all censors or family friendly or whatever bullcraps so maybe better not :(

Why did Mercer have to become evil in prototype 2 D:
Apparently he died sometime between PT1 and PT2 and the virus took over his body.
@@jbktpl1245 He was dead before this game even started. He was killed at Penn Station and the virus copied his body and it slowly processed Mercer’s memories, believing them to be its own. After it realizes it’s not Mercer near the end of the game, it eventually accepts that it’s a virus and was never Mercer and begins to act accordingly.

But the Blacklight virus makes you, at most, a simple infected. In order to become a runner/prototype like Greene/Mercer, you'll have to most likely be the patient zero/the only one with the best genes to the virus.
