Old habits die hard I guess, haha.
Changes GT1 - The first iteration of High Speed Ring. A high-banked, high speed road course designed to test the limits of the fastest cars. Le Mans prototypes are capable of lapping the 3.1km circuit in the high 30 second range, with Super GT and touring cars lapping in the mid to high 40s. GT2 - Other than some graphical updates, such as car reflections, higher fidelity textures and improved tire smoke, the layout of HSR remained identical to GT1, save for a widened frontstretch and a usable pit lane. GT3 - Not present, as HSR was not featured in GT3. GT4 - 6 years after GT2's release, HSR gets its first next-gen makeover. The track received a 900 meter increase in length due to the entire track being increased in size by about 20 percent. This increased fast lap times on the now-4km circuit by about 15 seconds. The frontstretch and turn 1 were widened further. However, the progressive banking in the turn 3-5 complex was removed, making it flat. Le Mans prototypes lap in the mid-50 second range, with GT cars generally coming in at low 1:00s. The length of the track would remain unchanged to present day. GT5 - HSR receives its second next-gen makeover. The banking in turn 1 and turn 2 was increased slightly and the tunnel was remodeled. GT6 - GT5 port. Unchanged from GT5. GT7 - HSR receives its most significant reconfiguration since GT4. Turn 2 was dramatically cut in radius, making it tighter and lower-speed. However, the banking remains unchanged from GT5, resulting in it being still quite a fast and treacherous turn. The bridge straight was lengthened to compensate for the reduced radius of turn 2. The tunnel was remodeled again.
The new version of High Speed Ring looks great! I can see elements of the original from GT1 with the way PD added all of those pine trees and cliffs by the tunnel.

Given that we now I have the Tokyo Expressway Tracks I somewhat doubt that the old SS Routes through the City will come back, but I feel like Tokyo R246 and Seattle could come back as additional City tracks, maybe even Rome in one way or another. Other than that I feel that El Capitan, Midfield and Apricot Hill would probably fit GT7 the best. Well, the biggest outliers are GT1 and GT2. In those games the Castrol Supra has around 680 HP. In the other games it has around 470 HP. But the track plays a role as well. On Trial Mountain and Deep Forest the gap is only around 10 seconds between the first 6 games.
I looked at the weather radar on the High Speed Ring, and when it’s at 50 miles, you can see that it’s located between Lake Kussharo and Lake Mashū in Teshikaga, Hokkaido, Japan.

With the new sharpened T2 in GT7, you can carry much more speed if you run the high line. The corner is progressively banked just like T6. Great for setting up a pass into T3. Also, unless you are driving a really slow car, run as close to the outer wall as you can into T6 to carry as much speed as you can down the front stretch.
I'll always like the theme of the original version - with it's big concrete walls and the forested bit near the tunnel. I like the design from GT4 onwards too, and how it was lengthened quite a bit. I also noticed that Turn 2 has been sharpened up a bit in GT7, probably to promote a bit of slower speed overtaking opportunities.
