This is a huge concern for the Church!!!! The money was deposited into an account. Even Cardinal Müller said in the interview that it WAS NOT a Vatican account. He said the the financial advisor said they could use the account for that purpose. No one is saying that Cardinal Müller wanted to take the money for personal use. That is not the point here. The point is that they were trying to cover their lack of financial management and lack of financial transparency by quickly moving the money when they discovered that the Vatican officials were on their way to the office to do a surprise audit. The bigger and more important question is why was there (the equivalent of $305,676 US dollars) in the office to begin with? where did this money come from and for what purpose was it in the office? Why was this huge amount of money in an office with no accounting of where it came from and what it was to be used for? This is gross lack of financial management! Can you imagine if this happened in any one of the offices that any of you work in? This is both scandalous and shameful! I want to know what the purpose was to have that huge amount of cash in an office! Why was this a practice? Where did the money come form? What did Müller intend to do with that huge amount of money? This interview did not address any of these important issues. As members of the Body of Christ, working for the Mission given to us by Christ to build the Kingdom of God, we deserve answers to these important questions.

Hmmmm... if this was supposed to clarify anything beyond reasonable doubt it fell short. Whose name was actually the account opened under. It sounded to me the account was not for his personal use but not clear whether the accound was not under his personal name. Don't want to pass false judgement but the answers are really not clear at all.
His Eminence is literally admitting to everything while using the "no we weren't getting rich" defense. That's not a defense!! The Pillar is not alleging that!! The Pillar is saying that *how* the money was handled was illegal according the Vatican's own revised financial standards from the [then] Congregation for the Economy. Cardinal Muller is an innocent and good man who is being maligned by some nefarious actor with these accusations, we have seen it before with Cardinal Pell, very sad and I pray the person or persons responsible for this will repent of their sins and calumny and find forgiveness in God's mercy.
There was a statement made by Muller over a year ago saying he had that money in his account and the Pope ordered him to return it and he did. He never spent any of that large sum. But one has to ask why was it in his personal account in the first place. Also why was there tens of thousands of euros in the office in shopping bags ? In this interview he was dodging answers to the subject. Also his beginning of criticism of papal decisions began in 2017 after he was not given the second five years in his term. There are so many questions unanswered. It’s a worry because I really do like this cardinal.
