I've missed my local video store everyday since it closed in 2009. Huge piece of my childhood, gone. I really hope video stores / VHS makes a comeback like record stores / vinyl did.
Wow, what a great documentary. Really hit the feels but at the same time gives you hope that one day video rental stores will have a revival. Thanks for this. Cheers!
There are so many competing streaming services now that it's MORE expensive to pay for all streaming services compared to just renting a physical movie. We've come full circle now.
When Blockbuster and Family Video closed, I bought sooooo many $3 movies over the course of those ten years that I can't imagine watching all of them. I'd also bought lots of $1.99 pre-owned movies from Blockbuster when they first started selling those in the early 00s, so between that and my local used music & movie store, I say with absolute certainty that I'll never run out of movies and TV shows to watch on DVD. I mean, I would if I didn't ever leave my house, sleep, or eat, but since I do all of those things, travel a lot for work, and have a pretty active social life, it's highly improbable.
By the time 6G cellular/internet rolls out. Downloading a 4k Blu-Ray is literally instant. Less than 30-40 seconds. They could just put cardboard on the shelves, with descriptions. Bring it to the front desk. Then, get your download in 30 seconds on USB drive/SD card.
I’m sad that Netflix is discontinuing its DVD-by-mail service after all these years. I live in a rural area where streaming isn’t practical, so I hope I can find a new service to rent or borrow discs.
If a video store had an option to sign up for some sort of membership when you can rent and watch a rented movie in a backroom with a limit or schedule I think people would do it because they want to find a place for that. Often in your house doesnt have a place for that maybe a few people but not everyone.
Its funny how people don't reallize or maybe even care that big libraries have alot of films to rent also, but I'm still for regular Video stores to come back, the problem is the lack of nostalgia plenty have, I think, a title like More than streaming is good, meaning more titles, along with ones streaming don"t have.
I just go to my public library. It's just like a video store but only you get to get the movies for free and open to 20 at a time for 2 weeks. Just watch out for redbox titles. They sometimes suck.
yeah, it's actually a pretty good movie, I didn't know about it prior to making the movie and not sure if you picked up on it, but I think Steve was trying to pander to us a little by diminishing how much he liked it, but this video store was right in the heart of the Gayborhood and afterwards steve revealed that he loves the movie.
@@theoneandonlykyle9800 yeah. They will think it's something from Medieval times or from another planet. Streaming cuts all the contact and social feelings. There's no touch, no emotions, just an express production.
Cool. Miss them so much. I predict that video rental stores will have a revival era for the feelings and emotions they bring.
Yeah maybe not as big as before but they really are a special place

Me too I had a dream I was renting movies in a video store.
It is very difficult to recycle vhs tapes, because they are made of so many pieces
I'd kill to have Blockbuster & Hollywood Video back.
So would I as long as it's not a animal, woman, or child.
Yuk! I'd much rather have the old school video stores. Blockbuster never carried the good horror films I wanted. Just mainstream crap

thanks so much for the kind words. love video stores!

Exactly. Plus they raised prices AND added ads during the movies/TV Shows.

I'm watching civil war for free right now

Beautifully shot and edited short doc
I love everything about this.

There's the library, but it's not the same.

People want them back.
Cool doc did a bit of research and it seems the store is now closed 😢
I honestly wish I had the funds and inventory to open a video store, I wouldn't care if I ran it myself 7 days a week, they were my early childhood.
That should be there store moniker
"You cant stream everything"

If you ever want to interview someone from another video store, come to Memphis and talk to the owners of Black Lodge.
Believe it or not that's not the first time I've heard of Black Lodge! I heard it's awesome I'd love to check it out

I would love to open A Video Store in a small town
Sad thing is kid's don't know what a video store is.
"We sell a tonne of lube!"
my favorite part!
HEARTWARMING! ❤️
They miss it. They miss blockbuster more.
Love, Simon is a good poster to chase away the homophobes, worked at my theater

REALLY? I thought it was kittens and bunnies keeping it alive! YOU COMPLETE MOR@N!
Streaming gives sub par audio
GO Broadway Video. If it's worth your time to watch you need physical media.
Boycott streaming
Streaming will never be able to give what video rental stores can.
Boycott streaming indeed I miss video stores. These kids have no clue what a video store is ask a kid he'll look at you confused.

@@shoutingmuteness3902 exactly it's sad it use to be so many hot girls coming in video stores
@@shoutingmuteness3902 exactly your right if I had the money I'd bring the video store business back.
