By the way, there was always something sketchy and old school about video stores... There was always that uneven step you would trip over because they were built in rundown buildings or combined buildings, the exposed venting, the unpainted OSB or wood paneling you could get splinters on... That old TV playing non-stop behind the counter, the owner's kids running the cash register. They popped up like weeds and disappeared just as quick, just to magically reappear in another building across town.
I wish you all the best with this little video store of yours. It´s amazing. Oh, how I miss the video stores and especially the VHS era. It had such magic to it. I´m quite late to the game, I started to collect movies on VHS around 1998-99. I´ve bought a few Jackie Chan movies from several rental places around my town and later even brand new tapes, but when the DVDs came I foolishly got rid of all the VHS and started to collect DVDs. Now I add the blu rays, but I also got back all the video tapes I used to have and I expand on that. The wide spines and big boxes of VHS are making me happy 😀 I think now is a great time for us collectors. We can have the tapes, DVDs, and now the boutique blu ray labels release such beautiful editions of all those old cult movies....we can have a ball. And we have, I think. I´m enjoying collecting more than ever. The money is holding me back a little, but I can have much more than I could in the 90s. Basically, now I´m enjoying the 90s again plus the present stuff.
Thank you so much for checking out my collection! The money aspect is always such a bitch. I love to go thrifting and to as many yard sales as possible. I find a lot of stuff that is way out of print for a dollar or less!
This is so great! I can see the heart and soul you put into this! It's so fun just to look at on TV, I can only imagine in person! Wow, I wish I was your best friend! Lol😂😂 Seriously, this room is fantastic! LOVE everything!!!😃👍❤ New subscriber too! Also, the name of the video store I used to go in was called Video Junction!😁❤ Great memories!
Thanks so much for checking it out! It was definitely a labor of love and is a project that will never truly be done haha. Thanks for subbing.. Hope you enjoy the rest of our crazy content!
I'll tell you something. I have been watching you since you were standing in front of a goddamn bookshelf. That was eons before we started talking, but even then I knew you had the goods. You came a long fucking way, my friend and I'm proud of you. 🤟🏻
Evil pointed out the irony of the adults only section leading to the water heater and other shit we have to deal with as adults lol... thanks man! I'm glad you get a kick out of it!
I worked in a video store for about two years, and this brought back a lot of fun memories from my time working there. Thank you for sharing this video!
Dude this is incredible and brings back a lot of memories. There's something about the mom-and-pop shops that hits different than a Blockbuster, because they had so many more interesting elements to them. You've recreated the look perfectly, I love it!
I'm really glad you enjoyed what I was able to do. I'm sure by the time I'm an old man and have an empty house, the whole thing will turn into a video store lol
I’ve been in this video store and it is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen!! Kids these days don’t realize the great things of the past like videos stores. I remember going into them as a kid with my dad on the weekends and looking for all the new wrestlemanias. Sooo exciting!!
I can still feel that excitement going into a video store as a kid in the 90s and rushing to the horror section to check out the amazing cover art of films like Popcorn, Child’s Play 3, Jack Frost etc.. Kids today don’t have that which is why this project you’ve created is so unique and top notch. Great job man!
You have done an incredible job. Nobody does something like this unless it truly means something-even many of us hardcore fans wouldn’t have the determination or motivation for such an undertaking. And while it’s a meticulous recreation of an old time video store layout, I can tell your project goes beyond the physical-it’s a recreation of childhood and good memories. We have no choice in growing old, but “growing up” is voluntary. I’m happy you chose to stay young the way you have. And you have them all alphabetized!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words dude! We do our very best to fight the clock and stay young at heart. We don't take much seriously.. except for our love for the video store, flicks and acting like kids! Thank you for being a part of our journey! You are one of the good ones!
This is pretty rad. I have a lot of love for video stores. I actually have an active membership at a local video store where I frequently rent movies. Be proud, this is so cool.
Thank you so much! That's amazing that you still have an active video store near you. Go as much as you can so it stays open! I'm glad you enjoyed the little tour of our store!
Before Blockbuster and Movie Gallery came into town, we had a few local, or as you called them mom n pop video stores where I live. We had Mega Video, Videos Etc., Action Video, Videos & More, and Movie World. When I get a house of my own, I want to try and make little video store out of a room. Thank you for sharing and God bless you!
Also in Mega Video, they didn't have the adults only section. Instead they put those kind of movies in the horror section of their store. It's kinda funny too lol
@@thedeepcutpodcast yep you're looking at the cover art of a horror movie and after you put it back you look up to see a movie with a beautiful blonde woman with large breasts on the cover. Lol
this is amazing! and the fact that your son held up the movie "The Willies" brings me back to renting that movie on VHS back in 2002, based off of just how creepy I thought the cover was. I have a VHS wall in a small portion of my room that replicates a mom and pop video store I used to go to as a kid, but it doesn't even compare to what you have; great video! and keep up the good work!
Amazing dude, absolutely love this video. I am hoping to create a similar kind of thing in the future and your channel is a real source of inspiration for me. Keep up the awesome work of keeping video stores alive!
This is great! A lot of hard work I'm sure, but so worth it! I love your channel and really enjoy what you guys do here. I love being apart of the horror community.
We love having you here dude! I'm really glad you're a part of our little crew/community! We are doing our best to entertain you and keep the video store alive!
Dude your set up is sick. I would love to have a basement But I converted by attic into a cinema room. I am in the process of moving so hopefully I can fins a place with a big enough spare room to do something like you got.
@@thedeepcutpodcast I did do 2020 tour of my cinema room last month if haven't seen it yet. Gives you some idea what my collection looks like at the moment.
3B Video oh Yeah! That is good😎 In ”the game”, you’re probably not so good. But nobody in ”the game” cares about movie channels. But for a movie lover that grew up in a video store, you hit the jack pot!! Keep on the good work👍
@@scottjohnnyhelgemoaune2951 hell yes! I'm glad you are digging what we do! I'm happy you found us! We work pretty damn hard to keep the video store vibe alive and kickin'!!
3B Video I’m glad you do! The last video store in my area got put down a few months back. I was devestated. When I was little, the whole city had many video stores. But now there’s none☹️
That's badass! Most ppl here on UA-cam tend to show off their "horror rooms/man caves" and don't get me wrong I'm not saying that they suck. They are very impressive but the formula for said room layouts can get a bit tiresome at times. There's usually a life-size Michael in one corner and a bunch of collectables coupled with some eerie lighting which is all well and good but this here; your passion project is unlike anything I've ever seen. It's literally a video store in your own home right down to the finest detail! In the span of seven minutes and fifty four seconds you have virtually transported me back to the '80s and I wish that someday I can have a horror collection and/or room at least half as good as yours.
Oh man, this comment made my whole day! Welcome to our little slice of the internet! I know what you man about the "horror room formula". we had a very specific goal in mind and the video store serves as our backdrop for our skits and whatnot. Hopefully you get a kick out of our othr content! Glad to have you here!
One of my big regrets Rotten Rog, was selling my Street Fighter Arcade 1UP video game machine. Bought it from an Aldi store here in Australia. I want to turn my garage into a Blockbuster video store or just a video store in general (my eldest brother mocked me yesterday when I told him, not that I care what he thinks) and was wondering what your 3 pieces of advice would be? I grew up in the 80's & 90's (born 1975) in the hteatest time ever to be a kid then teenager and video store visits on Friday's & Saturdays was the best. 😊
That's awesome man! It's an exciting project and a perfect slice of nostalgia at home to display your collection. My basement isn't very tall, so I didn't get to display many posters. So, one thing i'd say is make shelves like 5 and a half to 6 feet tall so you can have awesome wall decor. I'd also look at the layout of your room when it's empty and break down which parts of your collection can fit where, so you aren't just winging it.. because it can get frustrating faaast! Third, I'd say mood lighting is important, If you notice, there's no lighting in the ceiling, that's because this room was built with no lights since it's only barely 7 ft tall. so I literally have light stands I have to plug in and move around. Maybe do some led lights under each shelf to get some color pop, then you can coordinate lights for sections and whatnot. Also, don't hesitate to make a facebook post asking friends and family for things you need to fill it out, like old magazines or vhs tapes that are collecting dust. You never know what people have just tucked away!
@@thedeepcutpodcast that's great advice and so detailed. Thank you so much Rotten Roger. My garage is stacked with so much crap, film standees in pieces, electric arcade basketball machine and so much more, so the plan is to clean it all out then photograph and measure the empty space then draw up design plans then have my good friend Matty design in the computer the main blueprint plans. I'm putting a flyer together to take to all the opportunity shops (second hand thrift stores) to hand to staff so they can notify me of anything that comes in, from old VHS tapes, to posters, shelves, Blockbuster signs, anything... Another bestie of mine is going to help advise with any builds, shelves etc. I've got James Bond dolls, Star Wars, Terminator, all sorts of stuff which I can display too. On my channel Stephen Sherrard-Griffith Movies At The Bar I'm about to... A. Release a Die Hard films ranking video. B. Then moving my filming room into my bedroom, moving bedroom into old filming room then painting filming room/studio, placing my cabinets in, putting in LED lights (confusing as lol) then decorating and bringing more a bar vibe to the set up. C. Advertising on my channel my plans for my home video store and seeing if the community wants to help with ideas, donations etc. You know, old stuff etc. I'll announce plans, updates and blog the journey 😁 Hope you come visit my channel and stay in touch. You channel deserves a lot more views. I'm going to lift my game with mine after going through the worst 6 months of my life with the passing of my equal best friend then my beloved dog Acoibie getting sick and passing away on February 6th. Both were my world and suddenly both gone. And A friend who was like my Uncle and a mentor to me died just before Christmas. Also Rog, when I say I'm going to take on a project and do it, nothing stops me...NOTHING.. I said I'd rip out my back garden and build a tropical garden with a huge rock waterfall and pond and an adjacent golf putting green and I did it. I said I'd refurbish and re-start my Hawaiian style side garden, a huge job and I did it... So next is my home Blockbuster video store. It will not be easy, take a long time, but I'll do it and I'm starting asap. Thanks again dude and if I come across any cool horror stuff here in Australia I'll let you know. Stevie S G 😁🍸 PS I have one of the biggest and best James Bond collections in the world, from towels, soaps, dolls, models, toys, standees, posters etc 😁
@MoviesAtTheBar my friend, I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I'm excited to see your project get started! I appreciate the kind words, we put in a lot of work on the channel over the years. We are shifting gears and putting a ton of work into our podcast this year. I'm building a set and we will be having video podcasts up as well. I'll definitely be checking your channel for updates!
@@thedeepcutpodcast thanks kindly Rog, hard times keep us going. Best wishes on your new set build, I know with your attention to detail it's gonna be killer. Let's stay in touch, maybe down the track we can do a cross over chat. One more question...I'm going to get more into horror genre. What's the 3 must see horror films I need to watch. I've never seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th or any Halloween film...Shame on me I know 😂 I did get to see A Nightmare On Elm Street 5 in the cinema though when I was a stupid teen 😂
@MoviesAtTheBar well, for us... we are big into popcorn horror. That's what we call movies that are just fun and over the top. Brainscan is one our favorites, Ticks is another fun one that's just wild. For a third one, hmmmm... if you're in the mood for an off the wall slasher I'd go with Slumber Party Massacre
That's exactly what I want to do one day if I have the space ( gotta make room for everything haha ) I wonder how you made the back shelves, they are gigantic and that's exactly what I'm looking to have ! So if you can give me some info that would be nice ! Thanks and may your passion be as strong as ever !
@@thedeepcutpodcast I love your video store. I was a shift leader at Hollywood Video, but it didn't compare to the mom and pop shops, those were the best.
I hope in-person video rental stores watch this and get ideas. You thought of everything that would make one today successful... The only thing is for a real video rental store would really benefit from offering free pizza or gift cards to a pizza place after a certain amount of rentals or a certain amount of money spent at the store.
I would love to do something like this. I miss going to the video store in the late 90s and 2000s. I’m slowly getting back into collection vhs as well but whenever I come home with a new tape my family is like “what is that??” 😂
If i ever do this I'll make a small game section too with classic games that were popular during the time i was going to Blockbuster as a kid in the 2000s ranging from Gamecube, original Xbox and ps2 titles. Anyway this is amazing 👍
Thank you so much! I have a little section of some old school games.. but once I tear out a wall and extend the room I will have more space for games and atleast one more arcade cabinet. I really want ms pac man... one day

Extremely well done, brother. I love it!
Thanks dude! I'm glad you approve! You were probably scoping out the bluray section from on top of your mountain of HD hahah
@@thedeepcutpodcast hahah you know it dude!!
The wide spines and big boxes of VHS are making me happy 😀
I think now is a great time for us collectors.
Awesome video Rottin’ Roger your video store you created is fantastic.
Thank you so much dude!!

I'll tell you something. I have been watching you since you were standing in front of a goddamn bookshelf. That was eons before we started talking, but even then I knew you had the goods. You came a long fucking way, my friend and I'm proud of you. 🤟🏻
Hahah ye olde bookshelf! We've come a long way this past year. Thank you for being in our corner dude... that's 100 percent popcorn as fuck!
The forbidden adults only section ah man the good ol days. Sucks we have no more mom and pop video stores. What you built is sweet

@@chrisstoffer for sure! Thanks for giving it the time of day!
I worked in a video store for about two years, and this brought back a lot of fun memories from my time working there. Thank you for sharing this video!
The dream job! I'm glad I could take ya back there with my little slice of nostalgia.
Dude this is incredible and brings back a lot of memories. There's something about the mom-and-pop shops that hits different than a Blockbuster, because they had so many more interesting elements to them. You've recreated the look perfectly, I love it!
It's been a labor of love! I wish I had more room!
I know what you mean dude! There's something magical about it! Now you can bring your daughter here and let her roam around and look at stuff.
And your doing a fantastic job of keeping the spirit of the video store alive and well.
😘 daaaaw!! We are trying my dude! I'm glad you think so!
Love it! Looks amazing. I love that you're keeping the VHS rental stores alive...physically and in our hearts.
Thanks man! I'm trying!
Right?! Thank you so much man! The cover art for Popcorn is mesmerizing dude! I'm really glad you get a kick out of our little slice of nostalgia!

Great video! You’re taking me back to some great times in the 90s. It’s nice to see you and your kids keeping these great times alive!🤩👍
I'm glad you enjoyed it! We are trying to keep that vibe alive!
It's amazing you were able to build that. It's really impressive.
Thank you so much! It was a labor of love for sure. I wish I had more room haha
Don't forget the tanning bed room. A few video stores I went to had one. And wire racks.

Before Blockbuster and Movie Gallery came into town, we had a few local, or as you called them mom n pop video stores where I live. We had Mega Video, Videos Etc., Action Video, Videos & More, and Movie World. When I get a house of my own, I want to try and make little video store out of a room. Hell yeah dude! My love for part 6 runs deep! Even if it's muddy as hell
I'll announce plans, updates and blog the journey 😁
Hope you come visit my channel and stay in touch.
