    The first part of this video shows the use of Photo Etched parts and scratch building techniques on the Swedish Air Force Hobby Boss J-29 Tunnan in 1/48 scale model kit to detail hydraulic pipes and electrical cables professionally and cheaply around both the cockpit and wheel bays. Locitite 406 CA superglue is used in this process combined with CA superglue accelerator/activator to join the two dissimilar materials. Also used are details from Eduard Brassin which are additional parts to the Swedish Air Force Hobby Boss J-29 Tunnan in 1/48 scale model kit box
    The second part shows the Swedish Air Force Hobby Boss J-29 Tunnan in 1/48 scale model kit surface preparation techniques such as filling panel gaps and seams with Deluxe Materials Perfect Plastic Putty modelling filler/putty and sanding them smooth to get a seamless join between parts using a range of sand papers from 800, 1200, 2000, and 3000p dpi grit papers. Also Black Basing techniques are included in this section using Mr Hobby "Mr Surfacer 1000, 1200 & 1500 Finishing Surfacer" thinned with Mr Hobby Self Levelling Thinner 400 to prime the surface ready for painting, sprayed through an airbrush using Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline Solo Needle/Nozzle: 0.15mm with Badger 1100 with Anti-Pulsation Tank Working Pressure 22psi (1.51bar).
    The third part of the video demonstrates the Swedish Air Force Hobby Boss J-29 Tunnan in 1/48 scale model kit using the BLACK-BASING technique to achieve a pre-weathered look and surface texture replicating that of an aged and worn aircraft. Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline is used with Badger 1100 with Anti-Pulsation Tank Working Pressure 22psi (1.51bar). Also included in this section on the Swedish Air Force Hobby Boss J-29 Tunnan in 1/48 scale model kit is the Engine Exhaust painting using Alclad 2 Lacquers (Airframe Aluminium, Aluminium, Steel, Jet Exhaust, Copper & Pale Burnt Metal) and Tamiya clear paints to create a burnt metal effect. 3 layers of Mr Color GX100 Superclear III thinned with Mr Hobby Self Levelling Thinner 400 seal the decals in. This can be decanted and sprayed through an airbrush such as the Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline Solo.
    Next is the weathering of the Swedish Air Force Hobby Boss J-29 Tunnan in 1/48 scale model kit. This is started using Abteilung 502 & Winsor & Newton oil paints thinned with white spirit to a wash consistency. Then used as a panel line wash the oil is applied across the Swedish Air Force Hobby Boss J-29 Tunnan in 1/48 scale model kit to achieve a dirty, grimey & worn look. Further weathering including Unthinned Abteilung 502 Oil Paints to create streaking and water marks, along with AK Interactive weathering Pigments (Gun Metal, Russian Earth, Europe Earth, Medium Rust and Pigment Fixer, Worn Effects, Dark Streaking Grime Rainmark Effects) concludes weathering.
    Items Used

    Hey everyone, I hope you enjoyed the video :) Thought I’d try something a little different to all the MIG-15’s and P-51’s with this one to show a bare metal aircraft. The process is roughly the same however and how dirty you make it is also up to you. Links to all my references are in the description below as usual.
    Happy modelling and stay safe!

    Back in the late 60's-early 70's, my dad used a technique for bare metal. He would use aluminium foil painted with an enamel gloss varnish. Place the varnished side on the model and then carefully rub down the surface with cocktail sticks, cotton buds etc. For complex shapes he'd cut the foil to match the panels. He'd then weather and detail using enamel paints. To my young eyes the result was very effective!

    • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  2 роки тому

      Hello. The wash is never completely dry but touch dry. If there are ay pools of wash still wet then these will streak when you come to remove the wash and make more of a mess. I tend to use a dry cotton bud/pad to remove the wash since it won't stick fully to a gloss or satin clear coat. Matte you may need some white spirit or some other enamel thinner to remove the more stubborn stains. Hope this helps and good luck with your NMF. Thanks for watching :)

    • @xjrthirteen
      @xjrthirteen 4 роки тому +1

      I think he polishes the whole model after adding 3x coats of varnish. This flattens the whole surface and gives the decals a 'painted on' appearance.

      Plastic Fantastic is right. 3 coats of clear and then a complete rub down of the model. This makes it smoother and flattens the witness from the decals underneath

    Did the application of the gloss varnish over the metallic colors make them lose their shine? I am new to NMF and thought that a gloss coat as a no go. You achieved a great finish on this one anyhow!

    • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  3 роки тому +2

      A clear coat does affect the overall finish of metal coloured paints so I wouldn't advise clear coating an exhaust for example which is made up aof a lot of different textures. The metal paints have different finishes, some are high shine, some less so to replicate a texture as well as colour. A clear coat will cover this and make them all appear uniform even thought the colours will be different. Depending on what your subject is, it may be affected by a clear coat more. For this one it was more about showing different colours of the same metal so the clear didn't really hinder the outcome. But for something with a high shine metal finish like chrome, a clear coat will take that effect away. I hope I've explained that well enough and thanks for watching :)

      I haven't worked with the Alclad metals, but the Vallejo Model Air metallic colors are my go-to for figure painting. The Model Air range covers very well, which is unusual for metallic paints.

      Hello. I wait until it's gone dry enough to handle. Tamiya tape won't ever stick too hard so you can leave it several hours before removing it and it still won't lift the paint providing you've got a good base down.

      The model itself is not 1/48, it is smaller.. That might be the problem with the AM decals. I trust Printscale more than HB but I can´t say for sure. I do know the model is in the wrong scale however.

    Sorry to point out, but you often call enamel products (Ak, Mig wash) oils. This can be a little confusing. The project is usually very successful :)

    • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  3 роки тому +1

      Enamels and oils are based on the same medium so technically, to my understanding are the same. I use the same thinner for both so for the purposes of the video they are easier to classify as the same. You can also make a wash from the oils paints if you don't use the products from AMMO, AK etc. So would make more sense for people that do that method also. Thank you and thanks for watching :)

    • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  3 роки тому

      Thank you. And yes that could be it. Strangley the cockpit must be 1/48 since the ejector seat from Aires fits okay! Anyway the main insignia match that of the kit so it's just the stencils it seems. And I have never built a B-25, you may be confusing me with someone else hahah

  • @fasold2164
    @fasold2164 3 роки тому

    Maybe you are proud on your skills and your achievement, but I think the occasional modeler will not take these time-consuming and expensive efforts to build such a model. Buying all these bottled little remedies, primers, colors, thinners and so on is quite costly and what do you do with these items when you finished the model? Unless you commence yet another model with bare metal surface, these things are useless and stand around until they dry out. Unfortunately you didn't mention some faults of the kit. The mainwheels for instance are too large.

    • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  3 роки тому +11

      Yes I am quite proud of this model since getting a good surface finish using the metallic paints is quite difficult. If you are an occasional modeller you can take away what you like from this video, it’s your build. I however am not an occasional modeller so have many more uses for these time consuming and expensive remedies. Of course you don’t need to buy them all, but you will if you want to complete any model to this level of finish, you will. Bare metal paints can also be applied on jet exhausts, because they too are metal finish, so will not go to waste and dry out. I would also like to see a list of aircraft that don’t or could’ve feature some sort of metallic surface on them. Even chips are a metal finish... I didn’t mention the problems with the kit because that’s not what this channel focuses on. I don’t review, I show the art of modelling. Other channels and forums can count rivets and measure inaccuracies if they like, but they don’t cover what I do. I’m sorry if this video didn’t meet your expectations and thanks for watching :)

    • @PeteCourtier

      If you spend peanuts on paints etc then you have to lower your expectations. I have a good selection which I’ve collected over the years. If you store them probably they really last.

    Hi Mr. Inner Nerd, I've notice that you place decals in two different positions. One way is to set them perpendicular to the fuselage and the other way is to set them parallel with the cant of the wing. I'd like to think you are accurate however, I've rarely seen them parallel to the wing. I've seen them more often as perpendicular to the fuselage. I'm sure you are accurate to the replica but, I was just wondering. Signed, An astute subscriber. Thanks for sharing with us.
