Welcome back to the show, folks! Today, we're diving deep into the heart of the NBA season - the trade deadline. Join me as we explore what the trade deadline is, its significance to a team's season, and some intriguing trades that have already gone down.
The Trade Deadline is that pivotal moment, roughly halfway through the season, where teams can no longer make trades for the remainder of the season. This year, mark your calendars for February 8th at 3 pm EST. Once a team is eliminated from the regular season, they can resume trading, but until then, they can only acquire players by signing free agents.
In this episode, we'll dissect the strategies teams employ as the trade deadline approaches. Do they give up on the current season, trading away talent for future draft picks, or do they go all-in, trading draft picks and expiring contracts for players who could potentially lead them to a championship?
Let's kick things off by examining the Toronto Raptors' bold moves. With the understanding that this isn't their championship year, they've traded away key players like OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam. The OG trade brought in Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett, along with a future second-round pick - the cinnamon twists of draft assets.
Meanwhile, the Siakam trade was a blockbuster, securing three first-round draft picks. The Raptors are betting on a hopeful future, while the Knicks are banking on a championship run this season. It's a tale of two different routes teams can take at the deadline: dismantle for parts or acquire parts from teams in rebuilding mode.
But what about those trades that don't necessarily scream championship contenders? Enter the Wizards and Pistons trade - a move aimed at clearing cap space. The Pistons shed Marvin Bagley's contract, creating room for potential free-agent signings. The Wizards, on the other hand, acquired the contract in exchange for two second-round picks - the lottery scratchers of the NBA.
As we navigate through the deadline landscape, we'll also explore the intriguing concept of buyout players. When a veteran player finds themselves on a team giving up on the season, and the deadline passes without a trade, a contract buyout becomes the saving grace. We'll reminisce about players like Pat Beverley and Russ, who turned buyouts into opportunities with playoff-contending teams.
Looking ahead, I'll share insights on potential moves at the deadline. Players like Bojan Bogdanovic and Andre Drummond could be on the move, impacting both struggling teams and contenders alike. Will the Orlando Magic secure a sharpshooter in Bogdanovic to boost their three-point game? Could Andre Drummond find a new home with teams in need of size and rebounding prowess?
The trade deadline is a thrilling time in the NBA, filled with unexpected twists and turns. Just remember the buzzer-beater trades of Kevin Durant and the impactful shift of power when Harden moved from the Nets to the Sixers. Who knows what surprises this year's deadline holds?
Thanks for tuning in, and don't forget to hit that like button if you enjoyed the content. Feel free to share your thoughts on what aspects of the deadline I might have missed, and I'll be sure to respond. Wishing you all a fantastic day and an even better life. All the love, all the power - until next time!
Your criminally underrated. Keep up the excellent work my good sir
see you next Monday
One thing that I would like to point out is that there are different types of rebuilding teams too. There are teams who like to rip it apart all the way down to the studs, be as bad as possible, tank. Examples of teams in that mode right now are the Wizards and Spurs. While other teams prefer to "rebuild from the middle". These teams will trade away their best players but aren't actively trying to be bad. They want to remain as competitive as possible. There are various reasons a team might do this. Sometimes it's ownership/money. Sometimes it's that the CEO/GM doesn't believe in the approach. Examples of teams in this mode right now are the Jazz, Nets and Raptors.
In relation to this deadline I think that an example of a "build from the middle" rebuild that we could see begin is the Bulls. I think that if Zach Lavine gets traded people might be surprised at the return. I think that they'll value getting decent players back more than draft picks. Their owner has always been one who likes to stay as competitive as possible.
yeah, usually teams will hang on to one or two guys who they're committed to paying. Start shuffling deck chairs and accumulating picks from there.
Wow having this show up in my recommended was a gem
Love the editing
Love the vibe you put off
This channel is gonna be huge
Keep up the good work
Thanks, man! glad you found the channel!
Haha i love Jwill and don't know that I'd trade him for Drummond but glad I'm not the only one thinking OKC should try to pick up him
I love him too, but I think it's the move. OKC is too good.
@@whatslaps Gotta share the joy that is JWill
Wtf?! UA-cam didn’t even show me your video even though I am subscribed to your channel.
They really are holding a grudge against you or something…
Great explanation. Especially the part covering buyouts and possible trades.
I had to change the thumbnail. alg favs lavine over siakim apparently.
Man, I've learnt so much from your channel, thanks a bunch
np! happy to help!
IQ was traded because he wanted more money than the Knicks were willing to spend. RJ was traded because he was struggling in Thib's system. Plus, the Raptors didn't think they could sign OG.
good call. Wonder how it's going to all work out in Toronto.
Excellent video Sir. Great edits, sound effects, and memes.
thanks for the appreciation.
Going to be tough to be a Raps fans for the next few seasons. Funny analysis for pistons and wiz, two different strategies that don't seem like they're likely to work out for either one. Cinnamon twists can only do so much for you, lack of nutritional value is a problem. I think buyouts are a pretty good concept overall, appears to work out for all parties involved. Bojan to Orlando would be great, definitely a win-win. Drummond going to a playoff bound/hopeful place that could use him would be good too, with the way he's playing he deserves to have his talents being put to better use somewhere where it would be more appreciated. Trade deadline always exciting to me, I like stuff getting mixed around and adding new dynamics to the picture of the league. Thanks again bruv, vids always on point.
Cinnamon twists are what taco bell throughs in when they botch your order. It gives you the illusion that you came out on top of the transaction, even though you're probably not even going to eat the twists. I should have put this video out next week when the deadline is actually coming up. FML. Hopefully we get some good news coming back for Bojan this week. Much appreciated engagement, brother. hope you're doing well!
Thanks for explaining this, and keep up the great content!
My pleasure.
I’m curious to see what moves if any the Lakers can make. Making a flurry of moves at the deadline to completely revamp the roster is only something you can really do once in a long while, but hey anything’s possible with Lebron on the roster.
I hope they don't try for Lavine. he's a mirage in the desert.
@@whatslaps I agree they should prioritize a defensive minded center so Anthony Davis can switch to PF where he is more comfortable. The team doesn’t need more scoring.
Lol watching this video/your other ones on contracts, trades etc after the Klay Thompson masterclass in the play-in. 🍿
haha, glad you're enjoying the vids man! Brutal one from Klay.
One of my favorite NBA channel. Keep it up!

What about the corn dog and being good to my mother?
gotta switch the style up sometimes
Keep it up. Your close to popping off, it’s due
things are moving!
The mavs should definitely trade for Drummond. He would definitely work when lively is on the bench and might also teach him a thing or two
guess we'll find out on thursday!
Underrated ❤
thank you for the engagement
Mavericks should trade for Drummond.
People are sayin that
I sure like me a good metaphor about cinnamon twists

Glad you keep coming back!
What if Lavine goes to Detroit? 😆🤣
What a nightmare! I feel like it's happening! That contract is so brutal. The Pistons probably think they're getting a deal too. oye
Comment for the algorithm ❤
