Brent Mason pickin' like crazy on his song "Don't Try This At Home," then it goes into a slow blues type thing with Vince Gill. Great guitar playing!

A lot of people say Nashville produces cookie cutter hits, but there is a reason they use these players. These guys are as good as it gets. They are utterly amazing and thats why they are AAA scale players making the big session bucks. Man unbelievable!!!!!!
Vince’s tone here is freeg’n ridiculous!!
Simple Tele, cranked tubes... raw magic!!
Unforgiving crying snortin tone that gives back what you put into it... manipulated beautifully by Mr, Gill!!!!
Man, Vince's tone is to die for in this video.
Just love his Solo
His tone has always been the envy of many. It matches his playing and personality perfectly. For most of us country music musicians, he is Elvis lol. Anyone know where to find the full show from this?
vince Gill has been around 30 yrs and has one good song. That’s it.
@@brandonvandelden7972 hahahah whaaaaat?
@@brandonvandelden7972 it’s okay to be wrong, but you shouldn’t be so confident about it.
Mason and Franklin on the same stage - The sheer mass of talent is enough to have the room collapse into a black hole 🕳
That bass player too. Don't know his name but he's everywhere. Played with Bonamassa many times.
I grew up on rock and roll but there is nothing like good country guitar playing...period! This was a bit of everything..country, blues, and a bit of jazz thrown in...great stuff!
Mason is a beast and a true session player-- Gil's tone tho'
Did anyone else happen to notice that Vince Gill played some of the tastiest blues lix ever?
And, that is another of many reasons why he's the high priest of country music.
Yes, I did notice. And I don’t limit Gill to country music; I believe he’s one of three best guitar players (any musical genre) alive today.
The Blues would have been better if he turned off the cowboy effects. They were perfect for the head , but really killed the power of his great Blues playing. I agree he knocked the riffs out of the park, but a raw sound on the Blues stuff would have greatly improved the performance.- dirty dom
I couldn't agree more
I've heard him say in interviews before that blues is what he plays for himself.
@@dirtydom4785 I see where u coming from, but Vince is Vince, he is about his tone and that's it.
"...And this is why we use telecasters kids!"
Yesssss !
😂🤣 Right!
Yes
💪🏼💪🏼
VGs Tele is the best I ever heard...And his playing is beyond great...
I read where his tech claims that this one is the "perfect" tele. No argument here.
Both Brent and Vince picking together is fabulous. The bassist (Michael Rhodes?) now tours with Blues guitarist extraordinaire Joe Bonnamassa ( who is worth your attention).
I also love the groove Michael Rhodes on bass ALWAYS lays down!! All of them - love it!!!
RIP Michael Rhodes, what a treasure you are to so much music we all enjoy today!
That is a deep pocket! The whole band is smoking and so expressive.
Brent and Vince are incredibly accomplished at what they do. I love that country twang.
Vince is really good but Brent is on another level... greatness is what it is
Vince is right up there with Brent. Both can shred. There is no other level beyond Bluegrass and chicken pickers.
Michael Rhodes on bass is one of the most expressive players and always nails it. Thank you! Great jam!! Tight!
Agreed!!
And, he seems relaxed, and humble, and spot on every note.
Michael Rhodes just passed away last night per Sadowsky Guitars.
@@wmichaelstephens1530 Oh, no! 😢
That's a big loss. I loved his tempos and pocket.@@wmichaelstephens1530
I saw these guys play last night (minus Vince Gill) at 3rd and Lindsley here in Nashville. They were just absolutely amazing! They just got back from a 3 week tour in Japan. It's the most times theyve played together in a row so they were very tight and playing off each other VERY well. Brent Mason just can't hit a wrong note!
Vince's lead in is the definition of tele blues. It just drips with three saddle soul!
Tequilaisbadmkay You have captured it better than I've ever heard it said before. Vince's playing is on loan from God
so true such a perfect lead solo.
He rarely plays blues as well, Yet he’s still a monster
@@batmandeltaforce sometimes we don't need distortion.
NO-----DOUBT!! Damn fine!
These two guys are all rounders when it comes to playing. Country, Blues, and probably anything else you could throw at them. Vince once turned down an offer to play with Dire Straits. And here is the killer, if you are recording a country cd and you come from anywhere in the world these guys will actually do the guitar work on it for you. You send it away to them and they send it back with them playing on it. Cost a fortune most likely. Fantastic talented musicians.
Kim Keltner once said that when you are a studio guy, you have to kiss a lot of frogs.
You can almost hear Vince, right before his solo, saying "hold on now fellas...let's enjoy this ride a little."
you gotta love that blues gurn at 3:36!
and vince gill's solo tone is superb.
I see these comments about getting mad and burning guitars. Don't do that. Get you guitar out, "try that at home", and then find someone to listen to you. I used to feel that way, I've stood beside and played with Tommy Emmanuel e.g. and I'm an amateur that wants to set my fingerboard on fire. Wrong attitude folks. These guys are phenomenal yes, but you need to practice and gain experience, you could do the same thing one day.
David L. Whitehurst Well put David, it's just something I like to do even though I will never get this good. Thanks
+David L. Whitehurst Thanks, Dave...
+David L. Whitehurst Good attitude, man, and good advice. Wasn't it Stan Getz that said the same thing? The only way you'll get better is to play with better players.
You da man Dave.
When I listen to good stuff that just makes me wanna play it!!!
It is wonderful to know we have guitarists who have grown up with all the very greats gone before them & now play super music too & we can relate to various styles love it all.
Incredible jammin', I basically a rocker who is now a chickin pickin' convert,...I saw the light.
What's cool about Brent is that he knows it all , country, jazz, rock, you name it! A Guitarist's guitarist!!
That is as fine as a blues solo you will hear, constructed perfectly and what feel.
Vince! The feel/tone/bend king!
You even hear a little Allman Bros. in there. Little jazz, blues and country. Awesome!
Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day… Stay Safe
Great picking! Sounds a lot like what Steve Morse did with the Dixie Dregs back in the day: sort of a country and jazz fusion.
People sleep on Vince Gill's playing but he's masterful. He rarely full on shreds it, but he shows incredibly tasteful restraint. Every note is perfectly chosen. Great with bends too -- reminds me a lot of Don Felder. He can rip it as well as anyone, as I'm sure anyone who has seen him play a lot of guitar knows, but what sets him apart is how he chooses to play. He's a true master of knowing what notes to play and when, kind of like Billy Gibbons.
That’s because Vince knows there is SO MUCH MORE to playing a guitar than mindless shredding.
Love it!!! Great to see real talented musicians like these guys doing it right.
couple of truly talented guys. Amazing
So many amazing players in the 'Nashville' realm. Love it, thanks for posting all that time ago.
a great way to start your morning listening to this! thanks brent and all
Every time I re-listen to this I am just completely in awe of Vince Gill, Brent Mason and the entire band.
The talent on that stage is RIDICULOUS!!!
wow 2 of my favourites together... just awesome..thanks to JP!!!
and to the 16 people that thumbs downed this...I feel sorry for your lives, may they get better and more filled with joy!
Brents a really good friend of mine actually all these guys. Were proud to have these guys in Nashville. I work with most of em' and I'd promise you they'd tell ya ya outta hear some these guys no ones heard of that aren't on tv. lol. I love living here.
Vince Gill played his ass of on that solo... lots of soul in there. Vince deserves more credit than he gets as a guitarist. he's one of the guys who developed the country style we play today. And Brent is Brent... whatever planet he came from aint getting him back!
I love that slap-back tele sound!! I want to try hybrid picking now!
This band is just perfect. Awesome musicians!
What a joy to listen to these incredibly gifted musicians jam. I won't burn my guitar, but man speechless with these folks. Awesome! I still can't Liza Jane or Hot wired to sound anything like those beasts.
This is what I like! Country, blues and even somwhere elements of jazz... Mmm... Tasty!
Great video, lots of heavy hitters on stage here. Paul Franklin, Vince Gill, Brent Mason. Some real greats here, thanks for posting
True musical genius and an inspiration to us all, I freekin love this
I knew Brent was a monster and knew Vince could damn sure play but I never heard Vince play the blues like that. WOW.
Wow is all you really can say after seeing this clip.Huge huge fan of paul franklin and brent mason amd vince gill as well. This group of guys I would have to say are the best in the world at what they do.Just Ausome! My hats off to these guys.
Most amazing tone in Vince's rig and his blues is extraordinary! I heard him play something similar on a vintage ES335 that killed me! Also Brent is a beast! Geeze!
Phew !. These boys don’t rehearse in separate rooms !. Fantastic all round, Monstrous ! !.
Country Fusion, niccccccce... That was enjoyable, Gill's note selection was of the highest level.
So tell me how I haven't seen or heard of this incredible video before? Damn analytics let me down. Brent Mason AND Vince Gill playin' their asses off together? The definition of incredible-that was sweet ladies and gents! Brent doing his telemonster thing and Vince into some deep Tele blues, just love it-thanks for posting this even though it took me a century and half to get to it!
all the love in the world for great musicianship. happiness extrodinaire
Brent Mason is amazing - he can even play a tasty blues.
I love this.One of my favorite videos.Thanks.
Nothing short of awesome !!!👍❤️
Brent is one of the best recording artist in country music today. This guy has it all going, tone, clean notes, a touch of jazz flavor, versitality in finger picking to flat picking, and he makes it look so easy. Then you add Vince in this video with his style and E.Q. and it is just a mind blowing guitar session to die for
Hey, I've heard Scotty Anderson play live a few times....I don't know how you could possibly think he's boring. I think Brent and Vince would agree that he's one of the top Tele Pickers around.
Perfect collaboration.
If I said the word awesome it would only be an understatement. Im in awe at Brent and Vince
OMG - Vince Gill can play the shizzle out of any style. God bless you, Vince Gill
you're so right. I think i've already said it somewhere in these comments but just had to say it again. I was being impressed by mason's preciseness, speed etc etc... but then gill chimes in with a solo that just blew me away. goddam amazing.
I have not yet found another tele player whose tone I love more than what Vince Gill can squeeze out of that thing.
Oh My ....wow Brent and Vince...and sessions players looks like..unreal. Thanks for sharing.
Probably the best band ever assembled in Nashville on any single occasion.
It’s like the trinity with Paul, Vince and Brent! You just can’t get any better than that
Now that's getting it done guys great talent !!
Real musicians playing some unreal music. Any one of these players could front on their own. Playing for the pure joy of it.
These guys are all on top of their game.
incredible transposition!
Don’t mess with Nashville cats or you’ll be sorry!!!!! Brent is a legend vince’s tone is top drawer
Brent: So Vince, this is where you take your solo.
Vince: Ok, can you slow it down 150 bpm for my part?
Looked like Brent had an AC30 hiding behind that guitar rack. Or am I seeing things?
I sure love to hear Brent Mason Play Guitar !! Vince Gill had a nice compressed blues tone as well .. fun tune =)
these 2 are as good as they come WOW!!!
love the blues here! esp seeing VG!
Breath taking.....
Unreal two of the best
I could watch this all day!
The best players on the planet!!! Great music!!!
never seems too amaze me ! gift and doesn't even have a big head! love it!!!
Superb! I wouldn't dream of trying this at home (or anywhere else) - I'd probably do myself an injury!
Vince was on fire with this vid....some tasty blues runs there...
Jazz, blues and, country got hammered, fooled around and had a baby... named it, "Don't Try This At Home". NICE!
This is why I love music so much!
Gotta love Brent Mason!,Vince Gill has sweet tone in this song.
Que gigante Vince!!
Y ni hablar de Paul !! Son de otro planeta..
Saludos a todos desde Chile.
Wow. Those blues licks were smokin’ Great playing
Love Vince's tone!
i never even heard of Mason til today .... this guy is phenominal and Gill is perfect as usual (killer guitar player!)
You may never have heard of him but you have heard him since his playing is on thousands of recordings.
That was fun in its purest form👍👍
I was there as well, upstairs. Was my 1st time seeing Brent Mason. Wish I went down to see his pedalboard but it slipped my mind. Looked like a Techstar board but I couldn't tell for sure.
THis was great...thanks..Brent and Vince....that's a lot of heat in one place!
Looking forward to it.
Solid licks from the Master class
Love 'em both. Vince's tone is smouldering here.
I was in the studio in July watching Brent Mason playing on an album, that I co-wrote, for a European artist. Fantastic player and all around nice guy.
Is that the great Paul Franklin on steel guitar. I've seen him play live, he's freakin awsome. I wish he would have played a long break. And I'll hand it to Vince, you've got to be very brave to play next to Brent Mason.
Holy Cow! Vince plays some unreal blues!
nicely played! I enjoyed this very much!
That blues section!!!
I'm a rocker at heart , but i love these guys !!
great players .....say what ya want !!
Great sound and great musicians.
What a kickass tune!
