Amazon Echo Input | Add Alexa to any speaker

- The Amazon Echo Input is a nifty £35 device which adds Alexa functionality to any speaker in your home. Setup is simple, as we show here, and we follow by reviewing the mic quality and general usability. Certainly if you want to use Amazon's assistant to play your favourite Spotify tracks, but you don't want to spunk out over £100 on the Echo Plus or those more premium speakers, then this is a great solution. Just connect the Input to your favourite speaker via the 3.5mm AUX cable bundled in the box, or else pair up using Bluetooth. Job done.
The Alexa assistant is definitely well worth integrating into your home. She can help out when you need essential info, set timers, control your smart home goodies, play media and plenty more besides. Go check out my full Alexa tips and tricks guide over on Recombu for all you need to know.
If you have a great speaker already then I definitely recommend the Echo Input at this low price, if sound quality is high up your list of priorities. It's not a perfect solution, particularly if your speaker isn't permanently plugged in, but it works seamlessly when the two are paired.
Too underrated you add personality and jokes and you dont over-due it unlike alot of other tech channels

Just got one for 15 bucks on amazon cant wait to use it on my sony sound system tired of using the aux. Its a little out dated. But it sounds way better than any "speaker".
Love the Input myself, it's a neat, unobtrusive way of adding DAB and Internet Radio to a high quality, but old amplifier set-up.
thank you for a clear description on how to set up the alexa echo. made this a lot easier.
Him: Alexa?
Me: S T O P
😂
😂
I bought one, mine responded to all your Alexa commands. I run mine into my computer sound card so I can use my amp and speakers for good sound quality.
I got an Echo Dot with my eero mesh WiFi system, so I hooked it up to a Yamaha sound bar that was lying around. Virtual 7.1 surround sound - and Alexa!
0:42 damn thats pretty heavy bro
😆
What do you mean? What he saying is that it’s only £35 in the UK. They use pounds in the UK not dollars, and it’s only nearly 1 pound heavy.
@@the_teckeroo you missed the joke
Oh, now I get it. LOL! 😂
Very generous jaffa cake, more of a wagon wheel (pre shrinkflation) I think
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Good review and setup guide. Defo will add echo input in my kitchen.
Did anyone elses alexa activate at 5:32
Really good description
Great tutorial. Can I ask Alexa to play something in the Apple Music on my iPhone via that system? Im rural and we have capped data limits so I don't stream. Cheers
Would of been better you showing a connection from the lead into a stereo as this is what I want to know if I can connect my old Sony Stereo with speakers to this system? thanks for the helpful video!
SOLD! Merry Christmas to me! Adding this to my Bose system!
How about the speaker's mic? Can you use it to activate Alexa in case you have the speaker in a different room?
Great video, thank you! Btw, what microphone brand do you have attached to your shirt? It sounds nice and clear!
Hi. This is really useful thanks. I have one of these. Is it possible to connect my fire stick so that my TV sound comes out of my speakers?
Yorkshire Tea👍 This man knows great quality!
Will this work with a garden speaker ? Also never keep your coffee beans in a clear container, sunlight does not help with keeping the beans fresh. You should either keep it in a cupboard or a container which isn’t transparent
I have it connected to an ION Outback Explorer bluetooth party speaker, and it speaks louder than the TV.
I'd like to see a cherry red one
Anyone else thinks he looks like james murray from impractical jokers?? Great vid btw
Was waiting for this Review.... Cheers
So you could have a surround sound system have Alexa
That would be really Cool😎
Yea my wife sent me a text with a picture of it for 10 backs saying u want this for ur surround sound ...I had no clue what it was till now ...glad I said sure ha ..pretty cool little device for 10 bucks
So will this do everything all the others do, for example, if you said, Alexa call mum, would it call my mum?
Why do I need a 3 pin plug? Where do I purchase one? And what is the power cord I need? Can you help me with this?
My TV sound is horrible so I got this so I can have surroundsound all the time LOL I also have an echo dot in the kitchen
Great video! I have 6 echo devices throughout home and have a home music group to play Spotify throughout the home. Could never get my UE Megaboom connected to Home music group. If I connected this via Bluetooth to Megaboom could I add Megaboom to Home music group?
for echo input can i buy 2 and use it for multi room speakers ?
I love mine
Can you add multiple speakers and have them all play music in multiple rooms with this device?
Yes
I don't get it. I can already have my echo dot connect to bluetooth by saying "Alexa, find bluetooth" I got this echo input for Christmas but not sure If you need one if you already have an echo dot.
Did you watch the video? This is specifically for those that have stand alone Bluetooth speakers with no smart assistant features, to just connect and turn them into smart speakers. It saves you money to buy this over a regular echo device if you already have speakers you want continue using and add smart assistance functionality.
You can if you buy a audio speaker
So I can connect my phone to the echo input and have that connected to my speakers. Now my question is will I be able to answer calls through the echo input like a portable speaker?
I like your video but I am skeptical about this because when you said that your speaker can just turn it's self off it defeats the purpose of this device. If it was designed to send a signal to the speaker to keep it alive so it will not turn off that would have sold me on this.
Found out that the Google Chromecast audio is no longer made today... Stumbled upon this device as another option. As I would never want to use the mics, can I simply mute them via the button you showed us on the top, and simply "cast" audio to it from spotify from within the spotify app? IE, use it like a google chromecast audio device rather than an alexa?
Can this be connected to a Google Home Max....which would eliminate all disadvantages of the google system? (meaning, even Amazon Music would suddenly become compatible with the Google Home Max)
Does the UE Megablast work the exact way this would obviously without the Echo Input as it already has it built into the speaker?
At last,, I found someone who knows his stuff........YAYYYYYYYYYYY
I have an LG Soundbar sytem connected to a projector via bluetooth but cannot get the AV sync sorted out. Amazon Home Theatre has a syncing function - will the Echo Input unlock the Amazon Home Theatre settings?
you didn't say "love you" in the end of the video is that mean you don't love us any more
lol true
@@nickgray2078 you're also notice It
@@othmaneelhaddadi5342 yep
It's a heart breaking
We have been bad lovers. Gotta improve.
I have a bose soundlink mini and I was very disappointed to find out that it would not connect to the echo 2nd generation that I got. Bose no longer update this model and I was considering getting another to work with echo because I like wireless. Now I saw this one and I'd not have to get rid(crying if so) of my bose and the price is just right for the echo input. The question is: it will work? Thanks
Can the Amazon Echo Input work in the car? Like auto connect the the phone data.
Yes if you connect to car you need mobile data
I'm tired of striking out on wireless for the Echo 4g. The room-specific requirement only confuses matters because, at least in my case, room names keep changing!. So the only viable solution is a wired connection. Since I have 2 Echos, I need to know if one is a monophonic connector so that I'll know if it's worth it to go with 2 mono, one from each Echo. Or is it's just as effective (in terms of not merely "dispersion" but of discrete 1 and 2 channel fidelity) to use a stereo-pin from a single Echo source.
So can you do a multi room with this
how about I want to connect my echo to a non Bluetooth speaker through AUX and connect my phone to my echo through Bluetooth --> will my non bluetooth speaker play music when I do so on my phone.
Can it be connected to only one external speaker?
I'll buy one, thanks. Oh, did you get a phone with that notch? LOL
I've a Yamaha soundbar with subwoofer....can I connect an echo device to the soundbar and then with two echo studio to create a home theater setup...will it work ? I mean will the echo studios and the sound bar connected to echo dot play simultaneously
I have it connected to a bose radio with cable. if I wanted to hook up Bluetooth speakers, do they have to be right next to the alexa echo or can I place them a distance away?
usefull videol thanks
do you needs internet or wiffi
When you said Alexa stop then my Alexa responded it too and stopped this video lol and I felt lazy to play it back!!
You should cut that part when you say Alexa it’s messing everyone’s else Alexa homes
why do you need thids input? You can use echo dot to connect to any Bluetooth speaker and then have full function,
When introduced, they were around half the price of an Echo Dot, so the thinking was - why pay for a unit with a speaker if it's not needed?
Amazon Alexa set-up web-page no longer shows the Echo input as an item and doesn't appear to support it any longer as an Alexa input device.
There seems to be little point in using it as a semi-remote microphone to a portable speaker as most of those have an input microphone and can be set-up to respond to Alexa commands (My ancient Easy-Acc speaker is currently being used for this purpose and as a straight speaker for an Android Tablet)
Alternative uses appear to be non-existent.
As a non-Amazon voice microphone or speaker device, . . . .on a Windows Desktop/Laptop . . . Whilst its recognised in Windows 11 as a USB device and can be paired as a Bluetooth device (Listed as a Echo Input - 2D4), it doesn't show in the windows sound recording menu in Control Panel.
Ditto when plugged into either the microphone or headphone sockets of a PC using the supplied audio cable .
Drinks coaster it is then.
The web page might not support it, but the apps on iPhone and Android phones do - I set mine up today (Feb 2023)
Be a nicer thing for a tenner. 35 green queens is too pricey
Is it possible to hook up the Alexa input to an amp with speakers
Yes - it's best for that in my view.
Wait, I used to think that in kitchen, people listen Lo-Fi beats. Tell me that's a joke.
Can't connect any speaker to work together in one room, much less in others
It does everything echo dot can do?? How's echo input different from echo dot??
Naresh Ramini it itself is different but doesn’t do anything more than a dot
It doesn't have a speaker.
None of the echo devices work as one unless they all the same
price isn't much different from an echo dot
I never understood the point of these…why not just get the Echo Dot and plug in your speakers to that? Even just the 2nd generation would do, since that’s USB powered!
I use it in my jeep stock radio
They were half the price of Echo Dots when they were first introduced, why pay for a speaker you'd not use?
@@arrivingarriving5166 Ah okay
It use WiFi ?
Can we add pikachu voice?
Blood youth 🤘🏻
Useless device, echo dot has the same price, same features and comes with a built in speaker. I was hopping they would add a 3.5" INPUT jack, this would allow wire connection from an external source like a dac. Alexa would still be able to lower the volume and make announcements. It would behave on wired connection like it does on bluetooth.
It's currently 10 BUCKS on sale. That's a steal, especially of you already have a great bluetooth speaker.
Fire stick override TV permanently 100% do not let Mike still off override it back
Horns up
Can you please read me bed time stories?? 🙂
Next video having to do with Alexa please do not say Alexa during the video, it sets off my Alexa. Mute it when you say Alexa!!!!!!
why not just connect yor phone, you phone also has speech recognition, your phone would make more since ?????
Alexa
Misogynist, why Alexa has to be in the kitchen? Just because she is a female assistant?sexist 😂😂😂😂 what mmof Alexa identifies as a man?
She's actually female in character
Please be joking
