Great at getting this out so quickly! I keep seeing this idea repeated that you can’t see the clock when playing music. Given that it’s only a day old, I get that folks don’t know this, but you CAN return to the Home Screen (the full clock) whenever you have audio playing. You’ll see the full clock, the audio will still play, and there’s a little icon on the bottom to tap to return to the audio screen if wanted. So that’s good news for folks who want to see the clock!
Yes, it's unfortunate that the time disappears when listening to something. How can we get back to the home screen? It's a bit tedious if we have to do this every time
@@draklane Yes, so to clarify: I’m seeing the time still there when playing music (albeit very tiny on top). To get back to the almost full clock, you just swipe down from the top and click on the home icon. Hope this helps!
Just say “Alexa go home”. I have 2 stereo paired Spots and I love the sound. It’s as good as such a tiny device could be, and better than my 2 Echo Show 5’s that they replace.
This is the replacement for the original Echo Spot. Thats why it’s called the Echo Spot 2024. However it fails to carry over the full circle display, camera, and texting functions it looks like. You can shop on the Echo Spot from 2017/18/19 versions in White & Black. They took the Echo Spot 1st gen and combined it with an Echo Dot. You’re missing the Echo Spot 1st generation. So it’s not a comparison video without the original.
Why did Amazon remove the clock display feature from the newest generation Echo Dot? This feature is a huge improvement to the previous gen Dot but they just took it away and now a Dot with display is hard to purchase.
I’m going to be returning mine, only because when I tell Alexa to “loop Rain sounds”, the stupid music icon lights up my whole room every time it repeats the loop 7/10 times instead of returning to the dim red clock face.
Ads? "Not yet.." And that's the 64 million dollar question isn't it? If all the other Amazon things is anything to go with, you can almost guarantee they'll be some sort of annoyance arriving soon enough 🙄
I get like a very small amount of ads on my echo show 8 2nd gen and the it doesn't really bother me. I just put it on dnd mode which has my photos in a loop
Do you happen to know if when you trigger a timer does the timer show on the clock face? The only reason I keep my show around is so I can actually see how much time is remaining versus constantly having to ask how much time is left.
Hi yes the clock face is shown and you see the countdown from start to finish. You can also return back to the normal clock face and the timer will be shown on the bottom with a countdown.
This Echo Spot (2024) is in my opinion a bedroom alarm clock so the audio quality is less important. Also the Fatal Flaw title I’m guessing is you don’t know if Amazon AI is going to be locked behind a paywall? If it’s audio quality you’re after then you’ll want nothing less than a pair of Amazon Studio speakers with the subwoofer added but at that price point you should get an actual hifi with wired speakers because they aren’t relying on WiFi so more money is spent on better quality speakers than smart features. I keep hearing that you can disable ads or that it is so hard to disable the ads on echo devices. However what I keep reading is that you can only disable personalised ads, not the ads themselves. But having never actually getting my hands on them, yet, this doesn’t mean that you can’t turn them off completely. My point is that all I have noticed is echo devices with ads only give the option to have personalised ads and non personalised ads. 😢
Seems that people like me that enjoys having talk radio while going to sleep will be disappointed(This is a bed time clock}The radio will be on and the Radio app will take up MOST of the screen and only show(very hard to see}the clock.Yes you can go into settings but that's only good ONCE.And if you turn the radio back on the next night you will still have the problem not able to see the clock. I think Amazon should update the Spot and have the Radio app shut off in 30 seconds and just show the clock with the music on...........
Got mine ... surprised how basic it is! It'll never replace my echo show 5 in the bedroom and the screen is a bit small and dim. Not sure where I'll use it tbh, maybe in the kitchen.
Hi, great video. I really like how you gave the pros and cons. I have on question, which is will I be able to turn on and off my lights and will I be able to connect the spot to other Amazon compatible devices?
Thanks for the video as always, you showing the news first-hand. I have a question about this device, it is great for my bedroom. Can I see some of my Ring cameras or doorbell?
The biggest problem with the Echo spot is that once you play music or radio, you lose all of the (Day, Date, Temp) information and you cant see any of that any more until you stop playing music. so it's useless as a Radio alarm clock, if you want the screen to show you all the information you need.
That echoes the complaint starting at 7:51 right? I only found out after a while that it's not true, fortunately. You can just ask Alexa to display the home screen or use the house icon on the touch screen to return to the regular, big display.
@@Palliatus That is partly true, because if you try that you will see that only the large clockface will return, but the rest of the information is replaced by a tiny graphical equalizer indicating that the music is still playing.
I love my echo spot and it’s such a shame they didn’t fix the problem and release a new one. I hate the square echo shows. I want the one with the display all around. Not one with that speaker.
8GB EMMC is pretty big internal storage for a clock radio. That is the same amount of storage as some Fire TV sticks. Can the user save audio files or anything else to the EMMC so that they don't have to be fetched from the internet? If not, what does it save to the EMMC. The operating system and apps can't possibly use more than 1/8th of that amount of storage.
I have two questions, can you use the spot without the app ? Can you connect Bluetooth headphones to the spot so you can just listen to music through the headphones & not the speaker ?
hi! You have to link the dot to an amazon account but you could get more of the functions from the SPOT using the onscreen menu. Regarding BT, let me check and report back.

Echo Gen 4 nowhere in the mix?
What about the echo spot generation 1??
Is it an echo dot with a screen, or is it a totally different thing? Like i can control alexa same as the dot?
Yeah
The sound is not good, it's quite muffled. Being bigger than the normal echo dots, you expecting a better sound....but instead, it's quite worse.
I agree the dot has better audio!

I think it's to store information for faster answers and in preperation for Alexa AI. AI can use that emmc up if you are having a conversation.
