The tires you are running will have an influence on your top speed as well. Doesn't matter how much horse power, or gearing. Centrifugal force will be a limiting factor. Dirt tiers are not meant to go fast. If you put speed rated street tires on it you would find its true top speed.
It's doubtful the bikes power is capable of reaching the limit of the tires. It falls on its face far before it runs into other limiting factors. This is actually, probably, by design.
The quality control lacks quite a bit when I upgraded my forks to cogents I found that 1 of my stock progressive springs was installed upside down which explained why my bike always steered left when I removed my hands from the grips, you may find more issues, I did.
yep my clutch cable kept popping my headlight plug out so i had to zip tie it out of the way and my left side handgaurd keeps pushing my clutch in while im driving. no matter how much i tighten it in so suzuki is ordering parts for that right now.
Low.end.torque.and gearing. Dr650 are street legal dirtbikes meant to climb hills and ride trails with crap traction. Try taking the R3 up a sandy hill
Really surprised by the top speed given the horsepower and aerodynamics of a DR650, 30 odd horsepower should only be good for about 90mph on the flat, interesting to know what the actual power output is if it is pulling those speeds.
well if valves are too tight its slows air flow in and out of the engine. there is a initial valve adjustment needed. i dont remember the exact measurements but i know the gauge would not slide into 2 of them.
With original condition it goes TRUE speed about 90 or less. If u do airbox mod, sharper jet needle, 150 main jet, bigger holes to slide, shorter slide spring, better flowing exhaus system from start to end. Then it goes about 100.
rx Plumber I have a 91. It's a fantastic bike but I would not recommend it as a first, it's heavy and powerful, and commuting is the worst place to safely learn how to ride. Off road on the other hand is safer and teaches you a lot, but DO NOT go at it alone (ie. one bike) in your first few years riding, especially in back country. Learn your cornering limits, find a comfort zone and slowly expand it, but never ride faster than you can see and/or stop. Always keep the most distance possible from other vehicles. Go to parking lots at night and practice hard braking, dodging, figure 8s, etc and don't skimp on the protective gear. Nor maintenance, nor tyres. especially tyres. If you follow this advice you might just survive it, though I'd still recommend a smaller displacement. 250-400 is more than enough to seriously hurt yourself!
@@aerodanny: amazing. I have one, I love them ...... mine is in good order and I'm 185 lbs. It WILL NOT do 178kph. Maybe it ill indicate 178 downhill with a favourable wind but an excellent one may come close to a genuine 155-160 kph
i have tested this... the bike is 5mph off at all speeds i have gps tested it so if im doing 107 i am doing about 102 real life. i can take a video of the gps up to prove it but this bikes top speed is truly about 100 mph real world. i am not trying to make this bike out to be a speed demon but it will do 100.
how much you weigh? lol. my 2002 is jetted, exhaust, dropped a tooth on front sprocket. and i can still at max hit 90 crouched n all....but im 260 pounds
i only got the bike 2 years ago with 7k miles so i dont know if/when was done. all i know is the base gasket was changed to a metal one so the motor was taken apart at one point...amazing bikes. just jetting and cutting holes in airbox made such a torque and throttle response difference.
ehh i dont mess with that unless someone is jetting the bike for me. im not into just drillin holes in shit unless i know how much fuel i can burn and how much air flow i can get out on the other end....
The end of this video inspired me.
lol i dont get it?
With 800 miles on it my 100% stock 95 DR 650 did an indicated 118 repeatedly with me weighing 235.
orange70383 yes. Mine hit around 118 to. So easily. 112-115
de pre 96 dr is a 16 sprocket, the post 96 dr is 15 sprocked, that is normal

i am positive this is the bikes top speed even with street tires im sure it be the same. the cams in the engine fall on there own face at that rpm.

It should be call the versatility
However fast it was it was pretty damn fast on a dirt bike.faster than I want to go.at least it looked that way.

What is comfortable speed for cruize?
110mph for a minute, with the wind on my back 8k miles on bike. On average, commute to work speed would be 55 - 85 mph all day no problem.
Why does mine shimmy at 80+? Why is my $900 Arai loud af? Why my 321cc R3 goes 115, but my 644cc Dr650 goes only 100?

Aero lol
So in all these years they still haven't calibrated the speedometer? so much for Suzuki addressing known issues.
lol thats all bikes.

Nice
How did the tight exhaust values affect performance? How tight was tight?
well if valves are too tight its slows air flow in and out of the engine. there is a initial valve adjustment needed. i dont remember the exact measurements but i know the gauge would not slide into 2 of them.
pls, chain and sprockets?
stock
Had an '04 did 65 mph in the woods and got 107 on the street.
Ride well ride often be safe n godbless brother

my video says otherwise also i do not have this bike anymore its not that i am defending it its just not true.
Sounds reasonable
@@1WEEBLE1 but a fuel consumption will be overly bad.
Awesome.all the faster I need to go
Would this be a good first bike for someone? I would be doing a lot of city commuting on top of riding offroad

@@RobertoMatiz123 the dr is not a powerful bike the new 250 motorcrosses put out more horsepower

Do it just respect the bike and you will love it
Cool, is there any way to route the brake cable for in front of the speedo?
What tires are you using?
just the stock bridgestone trail wings.

ar 2:18 was that a power wheelie? I cant wheelie my drz 400 smh
im considering on buying a drz400, can u tell me top speed, claim is 114 mph but i doubt it
You for real lol? Mine will wheelie in most gears?
LighteningForceX top speed on the SM versions like 95
Because you don't know how to clutch up 😂
LighteningForceX 90mph is the highest I got mine
need a shield.my dr run to 178 kxh...
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Never ever

My DR is off at all speeds by 8 MPH. Some guys say, no way ! Thanks
look out for a video im posting it tonight.
i proved it in another vid it hit 98 in the wind uphill
question, im considering on buying a suzuki DRZ400s, any idea what top speed is, claim to do 114 but i doubt it

fmf powerbomb header and fmf q4 tail pipe.
thanks mate.

mine were out of adjustment at the 600 mile first inspection i would say so. there super easy to adjust.

Thanks for the heads up. Got 1600 miles and never thought to adjust valves. What's the spec? 0.010 exhaust 0.006 intake?
.004" intake
.008" exhaust
adjust at top dead center on the compression stroke
were they out?
does the bike feel stable at 75 - 80 MPH?
William Chap yeah it's fine
thanks!! i got a drz400 but eventually will get a dr650 as well down the road for longer adventures
Ride smooth at 90 handles well , mine is as smooth as a sport bike as long as there's no crosswinds the bike just does everything really good!
No elbow protection. Fool
specifically just elbow pads... ok.
don't be so quick to judge. Others may well observe your habits and feel you are a fool
I don't even wear clothes when I ride.
