    If im not mistaken Scarpa said you can stick their shoes in the washing machine and just let them air dry after. 🤷‍♂️

      I use washing machine for Scarpa - once in 5-6 months. It really works. The trues is the shoe a little bit shrinks after, but no problem with that the right size will come back after first workout and shoes look like new :)

      That's what I do. Just use a delicate cycle at 30ºC max. I combine the methods, so I was the shoes infrequently. When the smell is nasty is time to wash them. Also, and this is very important, do not put your shoes in a bag or backpack after the session. Use a karabiner and keep them outside.

    Foot heath is a big one. Always wash your feet before putting them in your daily shoes. Wear new socks never put your feet in your shoes if you've stepped in something or wet. Change your Sox when it's sweaty. Don't get foot fungus to begin with. Wash your feet before you put your rock climbing shoes on. And let them dry.

      Washing my feet before I put my sneakers on to go to the climbing gym was a game changer.. but that only made them not smell for 2 months... I bought isopropyl alcohol wet one wipes that I use after I climb and it definitely helps!

    Why not just stick them in the washing machine that's what I do and never had a problem with shoes getting ruined or falling apart

    I’ve seen videos where people have said that they shower with new climbing shoes on and that helps break them in and form to the foot, would that have adverse affects since you say not to put them in the tub?

      I grew up playing soccer and showers were a common way to break in cleats. Leather climbing shoes can be broken in the same way - the water helps break in the leather and form to your foot better. However, if your shoes are synthetic, then you'll just be introducing moisture into the shoe, which is one of the key elements for smelly bacteria to grow and you won't benefit from a comfortable fitting shoe(I actually made a video about how to break climbing shoes in that doesn't include showering in them, if you're interested).
      If you do take your shoes into the shower, make sure that they fully dry before you wear them climbing. That way the bacteria from your feet and sweat doesn't get introduced to the shoe with a lovely environment of moisture enabling bacteria to growth and then treat them with one of the ways recommended in this video :)

    How often clean them?

    • @SendEdition
      @SendEdition  3 роки тому

      I currently spray them with Lysol after every climbing session and that has been enough. If you are wiping them down instead of spraying them, then I'd recommend after every climbing session too, if that's possible. Otherwise, every week or every 3-4 climbing sessions. You could probably get away with not cleaning them for a couple of weeks and it'd be fine too but it's typically easier to prevent bacteria growth then it is to kill it. Plus, cleaning them consistently can help you make a habit of it.

    Here's a super controversial idea in the climbing community... wear socks. Smart Wool, Ice Breaker, or any thin merino wool socks. For some amazing reason, the bacteria cannot attach to the material and it does not escape the sock into the shoe. Or maybe it does so in a low enough concentration that simple air dry kills off the rest of it? I have sweaty feet and they smell horrible if I wear sandals. But I can wear the same pair of smart wool socks for 5 sessions in a week, no smell. I know socks bothers a lot of climbers, but sweating into my climbing shoes bothers me more, haha.

      Hey Alex! If it's okay with you can I ask you a few questions about your experience with smelly shoes??? I'm planning to make a product that removes the smell from shoes but before I actually make it I would love it if I could hear from other people experience about their case of smelly shoes. I would be really thankful if you could spare some time for me!! Thank you!

      My 5 year old daughter has some super thin small Sox that are perfect for this. I scopped the whole package for my climbing shoes.
