  • Here I show you how to start a camp fire using flint stone and steel striker.
Flint and steel method is one of the oldest way to light up a fire. It has been used from Iron Age until 1800, when matches have been invented. This fire kit is made by ‪@Grimfrost‬ #bushcraft #outdoors #flintandsteel #survival #grimfrost #fire #river #grimfrostshieldwall

I used to use flint and steel as a firestarter until it almost killed me (or my ignorance did) when I took it above tree line on an icy night in New Hampshire. I learned the 'I almost died way' that the steel ember/spark, which 100% worked at sea level, does not survive it's jump from strike point to tinder cloth in high altitude, below freezing conditions. I should have brought a hand drill with me.

It is important to have always a plan B to light up a fire!
