Survival Skills: Magnesium Flint Fire Starter
Вставка

- The Magnesium Flint fire starter can save your life in a survival situation. Small, lightweight, and easy to carry. unlike a traditional lighter, the magnesium flint will work when wet and extreme cold conditions.
Zach, this seems much less natural and pressured for you than when you're working in the garage out fishing. You seemingly chilled out when it was food time. This is good content and you know what you're doing so relax! And enjoy!!
I should add I have one in my bag and one in my pocket every trip I take in thr colder seasons. The one in my bag is sufficient for summer adventures. But then again I carry a bic, matches magnesium and a mini signal flare in different kits and pieces of gear most of the time.
Excellent explanation for surviving in any situation. Thank you for this.
I am looking forward to more of this series .
Joe and Zack survival- Such a simple device but in a SURVIVAL situation, it can save your life. Thanks for a great video. So many of us take things for granted, and the basics in survival are a must for every one to know. Thanks again and can’t wait for more to come. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you and your family.
Good advice. Always carry 3 ways to light a fire. Waterproof matches, lighter, and magnesium fero rod.
Finally!!!!!!
One recommendation, never.....ever...use main edge...that edge can save your life!
Your mora; grind the spine to 90 degrees. It will shave magnesium, birch, cedar...and viciously strike flint AND ferrow rods. .....a carbon one will also spark off granite or hard rocks to ignite your char materials
Again don't kill your knife edge when you have all the rest of the knife to do the dirty work
Hey, mine ran out of the flint coating ): what do i do
Great job. Not only a good explanation, you showed how to do it.
Good job Zach, I have a few of those throughout my preps. Looking forward to the next video!
Thanks Mac
Excellent video, Zach! I appreciate the info and tips you shared, definitely learned more about this fire starter. Thanks for the video!
Great educational video, everyone needs basic skills especially with the state of our country.
There’s a great book called the LOST WAYS, my wife bought it for me, it’s expensive but so educational
Zach - your passion for everything you do, your love and your commitment to your family are so clear, watching your videos. You have many gifts and I enjoy watching you use them!
Excellent lesson, Zach. As a Scout council member, we teach the boys all those tricks to stay alive and safe out there. You even taught me a few things here that I can take back to teach. :)
I keep several of that same type got mine a Harbor Freight, but I do have some more expensive ones. Enjoyed it Zach
That’s the best explanation on how to use that bar that I’ve seen yet. 👍
Thank you. I came across this in my recommended and so glad I did as I just purchased a magnesium Flint starter a month ago. Very good presentation! Would it be possible you try another video with the starter blade that came with it to see if it works🔥
oh this just gave me a great Christmas gift idea. TY!
Ty for sharing this video on survival skills
Excellent
Excellent information Zach! Can't wait to see more. I'm going to show my 14 year old son this.
Great instructional video Zach. I have a couple of these but never really spent much time with them (the ol' bic lighter is just too easy). Now myself and many others, know the proper technique to get a flame. If either you or your dad has a fire piston, I think viewers would be interested in see that process as well. They aren't as common, but very interesting to use. Have a great Christmas holiday when it gets here. Cheers from Ptbo, ON, Canada.
I agree with you...there are far easier tools to use...outside the bick or strikeanywhere matches.
Myself, huge fan of a large , quality Ferro.
Shave it....shave birch and or cedar, or cat tail and or pine pitch......gasoline right there.
Cheers from Perth ontario
Great video Zach and helpful.
Thank you
I just picked one up the other day at Harbor Freight, and didn’t really understand how to use it. Thanks for the video! 👍🏻
Thanks for a very informative video Zach.
Very instructive and such a wonderful class room choice. So good to see you out enjoying nature. Merry Christmas to you and all your friends and family, too. God bless you all.
Very cool advice. I've been wondering how those fire starter stick things work.
@Keith Woods smart idea too. More than one way to skin a cat. 🐈 😻 🐈⬛️ 😺
Very educational. Thank you Zachary.
Zach awesome video buddy and definitely well put out there also!! I have always carried a magnesium and flint starter when going out camping or just being in the outdoors!!! They definitely can work very well but if someone hasn’t tried to start a fire with one before it might become a life or death situation it definitely can be very frustrating trying to get a fire started with one!!! It’s definitely a good idea to try using one every time before going out where something could possibly go wrong or you might be away from easy shelter, warmth, and food!! Awesome video buddy seriously and remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!
Thanks, J.J. I appreciate the kind words.
Great video Zach. Look forward to more.
Great tip, and as always a great video.
Awesome Zach!💖
Nice. Perfect gift for all your outdoor friends.
Zach, great video! I have one of those as well as a hand made steel and flint set that a good friend made me. I have a fire making kit in my bushcraft pack. That kit contains several ways to make fire. Of course, you had to cook and make coffee, now I am hungry for some fresh deer tenderloin and some coffee! LOL Again, thanks for sharing. Juddie - J & J TOA
Thanks Juddie!

Awesome 👍
Love the tutorial Zach but I live in Wisconsin and at one time I thought that it was illegal to peel a birch tree? Maybe that has changed, maybe someone else can clear that up for me!
I believe it is ok, as long as it is just the lose bark that you harvest ...
Good job.
Great Video and Channel! Any chance on maybe doing a product review of our Firestarters?
You can also use pine fat wood for starter even wet. Or carry so Fritos chips great fire starter . I carry fire starter just like that in my backpack. But I also carry a zippo lighter waterproof and wind proof.

I like this video. 👌.
Just wondering why this is not on Exploring Life? Hmm
Why would it be?
Nice vid Zach
Where can I get this??? Every camping/sports store near me always tell me that they don't have it........... maybe it's because of all the homeless people in the area..... smfh, I just want to go camping 🏕 and live of the land.....
I always pack one with my knife on my belt and a Bic lighter in my pocket anytime I'm in the hills
Looked yummy was that a ruffled?
Are you planning on doing a winter trip to fish camp?
Bic lighter in the pocket works well also. Thanks for the content.
I just use a softer ferocium rod!
Maybe I will make that my next video, This will be a whole series.
@@JoeandZachSurvival hey bro I love your videos! Keep up the great work! Wish you had a post office box! Got something for ya
It's NOT a flint, it's a ferro rod.
Yum
Lol. Why you acting so weird zach
Omg Why are you using the actual cutting edge of you knife Use the spine of the knife You just trashed your cutting edge
💖💖🎶🎶
Why only one breast? Why add the beef? Partridge (grouse) tastes nothing like chicken. I appreciate you branching out and trying something new but show us the whole process. For all we know that bird is in your freezer and you cooked chicken.
Well Curt, you must be new around here or you would have never made these comments. As for the rest, you were never a scout were you? As for what that bird tastes like, it can taste different to different people and once you add seasoning it goes to a whole other level.
Here’s hoping that your mood improves.
@@annek1226 not new, born and raised in in northern Minnesota. Not a scout because I was taught the right way.
I cooked both breasts, and I didn't expect to get anything on my way out, but as luck would have it, I got a grouse. But I had the beef with me. I do have a video of me cutting up the grouse, ect, but I don't think it's necessary to show. And yes, it tastes like chicken. Your opinion might be different, but honestly, I'm not too concerned about what you think because I was actually there.
