    Hello all
Todays Wild Camp takes me to the beautiful area of Loch Etive in Scotland. A spectacular area very accessible to people and pretty central to reach. With stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife to be found it truly is a lovely part of Scotland.
I bought the OEX Bobcat one because i am a tent collector and as most of us wild campers we love a new tent. I walked in from the West end of Loch Etive using the forestry roads getting some great views, it was a long walk to get to the camping spot which i had already viewed on the maps.
The Bobcat 1 is a great little back packing tent, yes its small some might say crammed depending on your physical build. I like compact tents so this was pretty much up my street.
It was pretty easy to set up and the footage shows me cutting a lot of it out to get it built up to keep the video at a decent time.
During the night it poured down, i was dry, warm and comfortable inside.
I give you my own honest opinion for this Tent, i am not sponsored or promoting anyone or a business. I bought the tent myself for my growing collection.
If you are looking for a nice compact light tent i found this actually pretty good. I found it good quality, the single pole was pretty robust, good pegs and enough of them.
If you have bought or used this tent please feel free to give your take on it and honest opinion its good to get a mixed bag of reviews on it.

I did have a great night even after my drama in the middle of the night so please take that on board when camping, we all have to learn and some time we get caught out.
    Safety Safety and more Safety.
Thank you for watching the video and hope you get something form it, if so do a comment.
See you on the next Adventure
    and remember

I wild camprd on the shores of loch etive back in 1998 and a tail end of a hurricane from the usa travelled across the gulf stream drift and hit us hard. Trees were sbapping all around us and the tent was ripped apart in a matter of minutes. We had no choice but to wrap the remnants of the tent arounds us and sat back to until it got light. It was the most bizarre experience ever. In the daylight we too found the loch had rose to within a few feet of were we sat out the storm. Such was the impact of the storm that the bridge we crossed the previous day had been washed away. An horrendous night then is a great memory now.

Its a beautiful place to camp and what an Adventure and one to tell, sound very scary but also to experience. With the Loch being a sea one we probably forget how far up it can rise in bad weather. Think we underestimate many storms and the odd one can catch us out. Glad you survived it and thanks fro sharing that its fantastic to hear.

The Bobcat is a super wee tent. Camp in the Ettrick Valley in heavy rain and wind. I was inside from 2pm until the next morning, given its so small you do need to be organised and not claustrophobic. For the weight, size and price it's a cracking tent.

Hi Mark cheers for letting know, it really is a great little tent and glad you have had it in heavy rain. I was needing to do that. I agree you need to be a little organised due to the room inside but it so easy to put up. Could possibly get away with not even putting inside up, just use a ground sheet which would give you some more room. Awesome feedback and glad you shared it.

When they mention "hydrostatic head" in the specifications, they don't mean test by submerging in a Scottish loch. 😂😂😂

FYI. You can put the door so it's at the top and use two trekking poles into the holes and tie them up so it will give you a bigger vestibule

Use your trekking pole to pull the guy line out horizontally at the back. It gives you more room on the inner and keeps it from touching the outer.
I'm off for a wild camp with the family in the spring to loch etive. It looks stunning 😊

i have the same tent payed £100 for it a couple of weeks ago and i have been out twice and i luv it buddy and if you want to see that tent in 45 mph to 50 mph winds and in snow check out ant survive the night and you will see it in some bad conditions and happy camping

    • @Campingonthewildsidescotland

Hello, absolutely fantastic been out in this a few times now and its as hard as nails haha. Been out in some windy conditions but maybe not 50 mph but that would have been a wild night for sure. I bought some patches to attach to the flysheet corners to pull the tent out a bit. Seen a couple of videos on that to stop the fly touching and give a little breathing space. I will do an up dated video on how that is pitched sometime.

Hi, Good video👍 I've noticed your bobcat seems to have only 2 guy lines on the pole sleeve . Mine had 2 but i took it back because the display had 4 . We opened up another one and it had 4, so i exchanged. 👍

Ahh i will look into that, i wonder if that was a flaw in the packing side that they are not on the tent. I will have a look again and see what i can do about that here. I might have to add some myself lol.
      Thanks for the heads up.

The Bobcat is very similar in design to the Terra Nova Solar, which I have had since 1996. The main difference is the single pole goes through the Inner as it is an inner pitch first. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Campingonthewildsidescotland
      @Campingonthewildsidescotland  Рік тому +1

Thanks for the comment Graham good to hear. Its my first tent with a single pole which i thought was well designed, i am sure the Terra Nova will be a lot better quality and fantastic to see you still get good use out of it. I quite like how the outer goes up first it gives you that little bit of protection if needed when and if the weather is bad. But not a bad little tent is the Bobcat.

Good video Steve, I've never experienced the beauty of Scotland yet & being in the South East, it would be a fair ole drive, but still like to think that I may get there one day...!🙏 The Bobcat is a great little tent, I didn't need another one, but it was at a cheap price, so I couldn't resist getting one to try out...!😄 Like U, I'm impressed with it, could probably have done with being 6inch longer to account for the taller person, but I'm only 5'9" & the 72x195cm bed that i have just squeezes into it...!👍It's quick & simple to put up & down, under 2kg, it is a small but cosy space at night, but when its opened up it makes a great all weather shelter... My favourite feature is the main door, which can opened upward, or downwards or be propped up as a sun or rain canopy... I'd say it's a flexible little tent suitable for most conditions...✔️💯

Hi Kev Yes it would be a fair old drive for you, i guess thats the beauty of You Tube where each of us bring a camping location to the viewer which allows us to see the different locations we camp. Is great to see different parts of the Country. You have gave some great positive feedback about the Bobcat, i do love it, i am not one for seriously expensive tent to be honest, they are quite unreachable for many folk. It a pretty versatile little tent and as you say put up in minutes, lightweight and cosy. I do like the fact that i can fit it in my rucksack keeping it out the bad weather and dry. Also i did see it has a few options for opening the door which took me a while to figure out. Thanks for the great message and it will be. tent i do take out again on wild trips.
      Cheers

Hello Brian thanks for connecting, i hope you get on well with the tent, i think its well worth its value,. A few zips to contend with with the door system which gives you plenty of opening options. Very compact, tarp would work well as an added shelter for you so sounds great.

Hello Hello, great question, well i cycled the NC 500 with a few bites of camera equipment and it was all stored in my pannier bags i would say it felt safer that way. Sometimes for easiness i did put it in my small backpack but for a short time. I do like to keep it all together so depends on how much equipment you have. If its pretty expensive kit etc i would take the safer option in the panniers. I bought mine brand new but east get second hand ones which would be great.
