i practiced it for about two hours (i'm very lazy...) and for this reason i was no able to record it in video (it is not very very difficult, but it is difficult to play all these notes without one mistake), but i'm proud of my transcription
I play that on organ, to hear it played on record is ... incredible! Like...in a medieval castle instead of a church

Really extraordinary. You make very effective use of the instrument's high and low registers, balancing them very well, and really push the instrument in terms of its expressive potential. It's no mean feat to keep the listener's attention over 9 minutes - especially with the recorder - and I think your rhythmical choices are both apposite and essential to maintaining variety in what could easily otherwise be a rather monotonous performance. As a recorder player myself, I can only say complimenti. Prevedibile poi che l'unico ad avere delle critiche da fare sia Italiano (Sollazzi) - il solito tuttologo. Da parte mia, invece: bravo maestro!

Great performance, Bach music fits everywhere providing the aim is to search its beauty. The mere fact that we can actually play solo music by Bach is an incredible privilege. Congratulations!

I guess that some one could dislike the fact that a fugue (polyphonic) has been performed by only one instrument, or that many chords have been cut away; or some one could not like the sound of a recorder; they could be many raisons for these "dislike"

Amazing performance! One element of Bach that I think is under-discussed is his ability to create music that will not lose its merit no matter the instrument it is played on. Iron Maiden and Dragonforce might sound goofy on a recorder but such is not the case for a Bach piece

Gosh! I just chanced upon this brilliant arrangement and rendition of a work that only you could have seen as a potentially workable piece for solo recorder..and the Fugue! No words maestro! Terrific indeed. BWV 540 has a beautiful Toccata...just baiting you Mr. A.B.
thank you, harry, for your kind words! when i was making this transcription i read something concerning two hypothesis, 1 the piece is not by bach (the manuscript is not autograph), 2 it is by bach but originally written for solo violin, for this reason there is so little polyphony compared to other works; concerning bwv 540, first thank a lot for having induced me to hear this masterpiece again, and second, i will think about a transcription of the toccata for 3 flutes SAB, because for only one i fear it will be to empty
Wow! Simply amazing. I still can't even play this arrangement with one hand on the organ. It will be years before I can play this on my recorder. The Bova is a great master!

My bet is that it was originally written for a string instrument. It all sounds like string crossings.
@@davidmdyer838 This is a Bach thing, just hinting at the base line with crossings, like in his cello suites or the Chaconne. So in this transcription, same technique is used to emulate different voices from the original organ score. Quite clever and at the same time, very true to how Bach would have done it, if he himself had made this for recorder.
Remarkable.....and sounds complete, great musical skill in transcribing this from the (organ) original.

It is a beautiful transcript and a beautiful performance on a beautiful instrument. Stripped of the complexity of the organ, the beauty of the fugue melody just purely shines. And I am thinking, this is also what GG achieved for Bach's music with piano.

We will probably never know the real story behind this piece, what Bach intended and how it sounded in his time if he actually wrote it indeed. But we know that the Angels play the recorder not violin :) and it is clear why. Oh BTW I bought your book and hope that with some help from it and your great channel my kid (5 years old) will take up this instrument although he is no angel.

Nice! I recently played this in a church with greta acoustics, just like you did too and recorded it. But my recording is not as flawless, I made a few mistakes. But I didn't know you transcribed it. Thank you for that! It's so fun to play :D

J'aime beaucoup la "clarté" du son de la flûte. Et les aigus ici sont comme des cerises sur un gâteau. :) J'aime autant les vibrations du violoncelle pour le toccata qu'on trouve aussi en vidéo. Chaque instrument a sa touche qui lui est propre, qui rend curieux. Merci beaucoup.

The arrangement I am learning for descant recorder is a bit different on some of the runs - goes up to a top D and then some of the higher portions are transposed down. An alteration of Bach's work, most definitely, but still quite nice. The top D and C# are pretty darn high notes as it is!
