  • This is a small clip of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad "Silver Pilot" E5 on the turntable of the NCTM.
The locomotive is an E5 built in 1940 by EMD and placed with 2,000 HP from two 567 12-cylinder prime movers.
The "Silvor Pilot" was one of only 11 cab units of its type built, and is the only one remaining in the world. All of these units were built for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, also known as the Burlington Route, or its subsidiaries. The E5 units were very similar to the E3, E4, and E6 engines, but were clad in stainless steel to match the Burlington's "Zephyr" trains. This unit last ran on Fort Worth & Denver Railway's "Texas Zephyr". It is currently owned by the Illinois Railway Museum and is matched with the "Nebraska Zephyr", a 5-car, articulated, stainless steel 1936 passenger train.
