- In this video I do an unboxing and review of the Tomshine Spider. It is a special effect LED DJ LIGHT. A CHEAP DJ LIGHT that may be great for Mobile DJ's. After seeing many adds on Facebook and Instagram for these at around $50 US I had to check them out. They have auto programs, sound active and DMX abilities. Check it out!

Great channel, especially as a lot of DJ's are quick to disregard "cheap" lights from China. I have some of these as well as many other "cheap" lights. Keep up the great work

I purchased 2 about 3 years ago and I’ve never had any issues whatsoever now I have 8 units in my light show along with other lighting effects. I’ve recommended these to other dj’s and they’ve said the same, no issues.

Those spiders are amazing , i own 3 but i bought another one to set one in every corner, i love them, they are always my fixture to go, despite I bought 60 watts and wash moving head, these are my favorites ones. I discovered recentley how operate the in dmx scenes because i am not particularly fond of sound mode.

I have the equivalent ADJ ONYX lights, they are actually very good, work great as a pair on either side of the stage, great with haze and fill a big space. bigger light output than the small size suggests!!

As on owner of 4 of these lights (bought from china) I can warn users of this:
they work great at first, as advertised. (i actually still like them)
but after a few months, a light went out
then 2,
then 3
lights kept failing. (company was no help)
At first i thought it was bad led's, but led's shouldn't burn out so quickly. So i opened up the 4 screws holding the face plate on, and saw that the wires powering the led's were disconnected.
Basically the "twisting motion" caused the wires to come undone. (due to short wires)
if you can solder a wire, it's the easiest fix in the world. 4 screws...resolder the snapped wire(s). When I say easy, it's easy.
Thanks for the information. I have not experienced this issue. I have not used the lights very often as I will really only use them if I am able to use haze. 🤘 Where did you buy them from?
Thanks for saying this! My main hesitation is, well i'm sure as usual, the small cost and the fact they are cheaply mfg'd in china- have had so many bad experiences, from fans going out, to multiple LEDs going out. It's nice to see someone post a comment on something bad that happened, along with a fix, i'll get two of these, if they're working great, and i think they're perfect, i'll get another 4..

Hey man I have this same mini spider and I’ve goofed in programming. Do you know how to reset it back to factory?
It came already in sound mode and I am selecting It but I’m missing something.
Hi George! As per the instruction manual, all you have to do is to go into the menu and use the arrow until you get to rSet and PRESS ENTER. This will reset the fixture. How are you using the light? DMX or AUTO/Sound Active. You can also in the menu go to SoUn then push up or down to Select SOUND on and off. Or AUTO "on or off"

Quick question! I have seen these with both the colors in the same direction (like yours), and mirrored. Is it possible to open it up and do some DIY on it to get the colors the way you want them to? Or maybe just rotate one of the bars as a whole? Would be cool to know if you can tweak it for specific cases!
I am sorry. I don't really know but as with any product you would avoid any warranty if u have one at all.

Did you figure it out. Sorry I just saw this, but in sound active it will go through all of the modes. Maybe you have the sensitivity set to high.

Hey Kris, great video. I just ordered a pair of these spider lights. I was wondering what DMX software you are using? I would like to move away from my old DMX controller and move into software.
Thanks for the comment. 👍 I use Eclipse software from Blizzard lighting. It is very intuitive and is very flexible. In 2019 though I am not sure it would be my first choice. Look around, do your homework. There are alot of software based programs. Just make sure that you are able to add profiles from scratch because most of the big manufacturers will not have these less inexpensive profiles created for you.

I Bought four of these, and they are great! nice coverage and power, but i would advice using them with dmx controller, Auto and Sound mode are not so good.

It needs proper color mixing for each lens, other than that it's a pretty solid fixture. But bad color control is a deal breaker
A multi colored led would be sweet but it is what it is. Not a bad special fx light...especially with haze. Thanks for checking it out.

Hey Kyle. I am sorry to hear that your having issues. I do not quite understand the problem though. When in sound active, the light will still run through the shows with no sound. It will just move very slowly then. When sound is present they will move faster. Have you tried to change the Sensitivity? Try that... Sens it ranges from 0-100 and I suggest taking it down to 10. Let me know if that helps. As I state in my vids I am not a big fan of any SOUND Active because they are typically to sensitive because of where we tend to place the lights.(close to our speakers) This is why I prefer to DMX everything. Go to SLnd. Check to make sure it is on SoUn instead of NaSL.
I think that is the problem you are describing. But not totally sure.
Hello! I am not a DJ, just trying to find some cool lighting for a small halloween party at my house. Would you recommend this?
I like them, specifically with haze or smoke. The tight beams look really cool. Withough some kindnof atmosphere and for a home party i would probably suggest the all-in-one fixture that comes with the remote. ua-cam.com/video/jPR50T_hyrU/v-deo.html
On the fence about these I paid a lot more for others and your right without haze they are just lights not a show as I wish they could be.
Very few places and I mean very few will let you use haze/fog and even the low lying ones,
They need to make a self producing haze light that safe for all fire/sprinklers alarms.
You could vape or hire a rodie that vapes lol
Do they work as well (the beam showing) without the haze ?
Thanks for watching. No lights will really show a 'beam' without some type of atmosphere. Be it haze, smoke, dust, mist or such.

Any DMX controller or software will control this fixture. I'm not sure what you are asking?
Hey Kris, I bought two of these lights. Can I change the colors WBGR when I hook them up to dmx? Right now they’re fixed (it seams) and on Tomshine’s website, it shows the light casting 8 of the same color. Please help me out with this one
They are fixed colors, you can not change them through dmx. You can only vary the ones that are on or off and the brightness of them.

Hi, do I need to do this with each light even though they are the same kind or just with the first one and the ones would follow?
Thanks for watching Joe. If you are connecting them together with a DMX cable they will do the same. If you are using them with a dmx controller they will act the same if you set the same DMX address. I hope this answers your question. (not completely sure I understood it)

Do you think that you can get a dmx app on you mobile device or do you think you have to have a real dmx controller. Also what dmx controller did you get? I got the same light and am thinking about getting a dmx controller.
They do have some dmx Apps but I have not used them before. The ones that I have seen seem to be a bit scaled down and do not allow for complete control of all fixtures. It will really depend on how deep you want to get into lighting.
Does it have a strobe and dimmer function?
It does have both dimming and strobe functions. There are a few options via DMX for strobing as well as dimming individual colors and overall brightness.

What do you use to control the lights?
I use dmx software called Eclipse from blizzard lighting. I think it is has been discontinued.

can u sync 2 without dmx?
Sorry for the delay.. when plugged in together through dmx they will follow one another. No need to do anything crazy, just plug the dmx cable from 1 out to the other in and it will follow the selected program number. Can also have them do opposite directions internally

I use them on rare occasions. Like I mention at the end of the video...if you can use haze at your event I think they are pretty cool. :) Did a Holiday House party for a client and was able to fill the space with haze and they looked really good. Without haze they are not on the top of my list.

I had a couple of these. Never used them. They really didn't float my boat. Sold them.
I get it. I have only used them a few times when i knew i could use haze. :)
The problem with these Chinese fixtures is they are not UL listed, which means when one of these catches fire and burns down a venue or someones home your insurance will not cover it. You will be held liable.. The industry is changing and in the near future if your using equipment without a UL listing you won't be able to insure your company. Saving a buck is not worth endangering others.
I have been told about the UL listing before and have seen many DJ influencers mention it. But I have also purchased UL listed lights that have turned out to be horribly assembled in the US by a popular US lighting company when they first started. (shorted the first time out and was missing screws, now they have them mass produced in China and they are solid)
Now after doing a search online looking for DJ lights that have started fires...I found one DJ site that mentioned one fire in a bag 2 years ago, but with the 100s of thousand imported DJ lights out there I personally have not heard of any major problems except that they stopped working or the batteries didnt last long.
With all this being said, if any of my equipment is the cause of a fire I will be going down with the ship trying to put it out.
@@KrisSzanto I hear ya on this. I too have gotten some really crappy US made UL list fixtures. And I agree that some of the knock products are made better than the US ones. Now if we can only find a Chinese company to mass produce UL sitckers.😁

Did you have a bad experience with this or a similar fixture? I actually just used it today. Still working fine. Also, it is a "spider " even has a spider molded into the plastic. (Not sure why you don't think it is?)
