HELLO FRIENDS!! and we are back with another internet haul!! i've been a pinhead since 2011 and i've always wanted to buy the things in my most coveted pins.... it turned out, ok. what do you guys think?? which dress was your favorite?? should i spend $900 on a shrimp headband? xoxo, saf
I gasped when you picked the Diarrablu dress. I went to grad school at Stanford with Diarra, the designer, who has used algorithms and math equations to design some of the fabrics for her line. We were in school for education and she is also a math teacher! Thank you for taking the time to highlight small designers!
I really want a video in which you take the bad dresses to a dressmaker to fix and do a before and after, and compare how much money it would have cost (like original dress cost x, plus fixing it, compared to what a similar gown that was good to go cost)
4:05 I'm glad you avoided this impulse buy because BJD stands for "ball jointed doll," which reflects the tiny scale of the product since it's made for posable dolls. no one would be able to fit in it 😅
As a seamstress who does big fantasy gowns for a living it always makes me so sad to see the like $100 extravagant gowns cuz you know the people who are sewing them are not getting paid well. Even the bad knock offs still take a lot of time to put together :(
The main thing I always think of is the massive waste of fabrics from these things.. Like I get *someone* made these terrible knockoffs but it's not what was ordered at all so you know the customer isn't going to wear it or is going to want a refund. Then it's all just wasted for no reason other than essentially a scam.
@@Eventide215 I think big businesses have learnt they get richer by making clothing a disposable good. "Americans buy 53 new items of clothing per year, which is four times as much as in the year 2000." "65% of clothing is thrown out within 12 months of its purchase."
Yeah this whole thing makes me uncomfortable honestly. Someone is making these and probably worked on them for days for a pittance. The last two dresses weren't completely terrible - they were dresses, at least - and they both used a lot of fabric. We know Saf isn't going to wear them, are they just going to end up in landfill? From the environmental concerns to the humanitarian ones, I'm not sure I'm on board with buying from any of these sellers, even to demonstrate to your audience what catfishing is.
I literally cackled when we got to the last section and you were just there in the feather shoulder pads and the celestial headdress- so happy you got them hahahah
I have a feeling you might keep the teuta matoshi dress so just a tip! When the shoulder strings are long like that I usually cross them in the back! It keeps them from falling off my shoulders
crazy to think that I was there, at age 13, when the intro jingle was conceived, and now I'm 20 and in my second year of college. time flies, life is crazy, but apparently safiya is a constant, even 7 years later
May I just say I love these kinds of videos not just as a "I bought it so you didn't have to" concept but also for explaining the investigative online shopping mindset? I feel like people don't use these kinds of critical thinking skills these days, especially online. Seeing Safiya demonstrate these techniques is so valuable, and I think a lot of people could benefit from applying similar tactics.
honestly, yeah- showing what they looked out for to identify scam shops is really helpful. When I shop sometimes a store will seem suspicious to me but I can’t really place why that is and showing the method for rooting out red flags is great.
True, but I wish her and others would do something to prevent these ending up in a landfill. Donating the fabric to charities that deal with clothes or maybe doing give aways so other seamstresses who know how to reuse the fabric, or even watchers who actually like the dresses for what they are. It sucks that even if it's educational, this still participates in the very problem of fast fashion, sweatshop labor and over consumption.
absolutely. i forced my mom to watch the same dress at different price points video after she kept buying from ads on facebook and being confused as to why nothing she ever got (if she got something) was any good.
Yes!! I thought the same thing. During the section where she was talking about the websites I thought, “She’s putting that investigative journalism training to good use!!!”
I am so glad this was posted! My daughter has been looking for a ball gown to wear to a sorority event in January and I thought a lot of these Pinterest listings seemed "off". I sent her this video so she could see for herself. She has finally agreed to let me take her in person gown shopping. Thanks Safiya! ❤❤❤
Wow, I can't believe you bought that intro 7 years ago. I didn't even realise I'd been following you that long. Then remembered I'd followed you from buzzfeed. What a journey you've been on. So glad I stayed with you! Lol

Teuta Matoshi is definitely legit. She is the sister to Lirika Matoshi, the designer of the viral "strawberry" dress from 2019/2020. Teuta also worked with Mia Maples to design her wedding dress.

I'm a 46 old woman who can't remember the last time she wore make up (the last eye shadow and mascara I bought was for the christening of my niece in 2012) and most of my fashion style transcends to 'how practical is it for dog walks and can I put poop bags in it?', but I'm still always thrilled when Safyja uploads and love to look at all the shiny things out there. I also enjoy her and Tyler's chemistry as well as all the puns and dad jokes (Cleave-Land was really good!)
"putting that fiver intro from 2017 to good use" Saf, don't make me feel so old right now 😭 I remember that video coming out, I thought it was like last year 0:18
I will rewatch the old classics a million times over (I have probably memorised the closet/makeup organisation videos by now), but I refuse to pay attention to what years they occured in. Safiya, I love you, but how dare you tell me how old I am. I get enough of that at work - I'm an older millenial managing a team where the average age is 22, I'm STILL not entirely sure if half the slang they use is real or just them trolling me.
I hope the person who made that intro song is having a wonderful day and has been successful in their ventures so far and continue to do so Also idk why but this vid made me wanna draw Saf in a sorta dark fantasy outfit
also O.M.G the wing appaulettes! When I got married, me and my wife found those wing appliques on etsy during shopping for supplies, and I totally did a similar thing, only by pinning a single pair of the wings to the sleeves of my dress! I kinda wanna buy those as the upgraded version of what I did, they're just so pretty!
Ok but that black batwing dress is giving Morticia and it's so you Safiya. I did also love that Teuta one. Those last two though what the hell? I would totally be interested in an Accessories haul.
i’m not an expert, but the Denver Dress ( 24:00 ) in my opinion is very AI generated. the background is doing something that i can’t quite describe but it definitely feels wrong, but the most ‘obvious’ thing to me was the sleeves and how they’re just…. floating on an armless mannequin
It's the lack of symmetry by this I mean the designs on one side are different than the other. Most people making a cohesive gown would want the little details the same. Something AI gens are known for is lack of symmetry to usually a small, but noticeable degree, given how the AI generates things. Even if lighting, shadows and everything else are spot on, usually the eyes are different, or the details on one side meant to be similar are a little off. That said, if a seamstress actually out to make something not quickly, but really good quality, the idea for that dress is super freaking pretty and could definitely be made to a similar caliber as it appears to look. Likely something mathematically is off with the creation, but the overall idea as inspiration for a dress is pretty solid.
I'm a professional photographer and seeing you browse through so many designers I know (and have worked with) is so awesome because so many of them deserve all the love
I hope Pinterest management sees this. Verification should require more. That's unacceptable from a platform. If they don't have time to take down the fraudulent sellers, they should just be much more selective with who they verify.
Etsy too. There’s so much fake and misleading stuff on Etsy now. I used to shop there all of the time years ago but it’s just too much work to verify every shop for someone casually shopping. It seems more doable on Etsy than Pinterest, where selling things is Etsy’s whole thing.
As someone who still uses Pinterest religiously, it's so interesting to see how different the experience is for different users! I never see the "shop now" pins because I mostly just look at fanart and movie stills
Same! Last night I was showing my mom some cool fanart pieces on Pinterest and she was so surprised at how mine looked, she said she was jealous😂 I use Pinterest all the time, it's my favourite form of social media. My mom, however, says she almost never uses Pinterest. She proceeded to show me hers and it blew my mind that hers is literally just a bunch of ads and links to purchasing stuff, it is such an un-fun experience to see Pinterest that way😅
Yes, we do want an accessories video. I may suck at trying to spell it, but boy do I want to see them! I loved the crown, would love to hear more about the crown and see it in a fully-fledged gown outfit!
22:43. I found myself quoting Clueless. “It’s like a Full on Monet. What’s a Monet?”. “It’s like a painting see, from far away it looks ok, but up close, it’s a big, old mess”… ok so it is not a 1 to 1 quote but that’s what I said when I saw the dress. The first two dresses are stunning but the last two are… They failed the vibe check.
I NEED a saf video where she dives deep into the goth subculture. Like actually getting into the music (80s like the cure, Siouxsie, sisters of mercy, joy division etc.), get a makeover, go to a goth club, say bar sinister in la 👀👀
From what I can see online, Tueta let's you do custom sizing so you can probably get a bigger size! I'm also plus size but I don't have the money or the place to get that dress, haha
7:45 Mia actually had her WEDDING dress made by tueota(spelling is horrid sorry) matoshi!! Their gowns are gorgeous and I will definitely be choosing them for my wedding dress when I get married!!!
Is there any connection between Teuta Matoshi and Lirika Matoshi (Lirika made that viral strawberry dress which sort of has the vibes of Teuta's gowns), or is it just the coincidence in names?
My wedding dress was customized Teuta Matoshi and was perfect. Highly recommend! I will say that if you get a glittery dress it will 1000% shed EVERYWHERE though lol (even if you coat it in hairspray, which helps). There will be glitter in the floor boards of my old apartment forever 😂
I remember so clearly when Pinterest rolled out its 'buyable pins' feature in like 2015 or 2016 or so! So much of what was trending at the time looking back was so catastrophic, I very clearly remember discovering a buyable pin with my sister that featured a holographic bridal gown. Insane.
If I remember correctly, Safia and Hope did collab in a video where Safia wore a dress made out of... balloons? Or something odd. Did you see that one? I can't find it when I google, so somebody tell me if I'm misremembering. Edit: I see a video where Safia and Hope went to the lost luggage store together released June of 2022. Maybe Hope was the one who wore the dress. OK I'm done now 😆
When you’re 61 years old and have the same fashion style as Safiya. I wear a lot of black and I love clothes with interesting sleeves. My living room, dining room and kitchen are all done in a celestial theme.
That last dress needs to have a spa day with a boiling pot of black rit poly dye, depending on how it takes the dye a little bit more fabric (like some of the skirt from dress 3 perhaps) added in might make it really cool. The third, needs to be scrapped for parts and the first 2 worn with abandon! chef's kiss to those two! OR, there are some tick tok designers that remake sad gowns, you could enlist one of them to reimagine / smash-up with dresses 3&4.
I love the cut to the commentary shot with the Etsy crown and shoulder armor at the end 😂 I had to rewind to make sure I saw it right! Also that Diarrablue dress on you was really giving Morticia Addams vibes in the best way. There were a couple shots when showing off the sleeves that Saf just WAS Morticia to my eyes for a moment! Honestly those first two gowns were gorgeous and I'd love to see them make a comeback at some point or another.
yes!! i it would be perfect for a photoshoot where you then photoshopped the torso piece to be more of a seamless transition! i think it would look super professional and gorgeous!! cause the tan shades not matching is the only obvious sign it’s a dupe for me!
Accidentally fell asleep super early, woke up in a cold sweat at 3:17am. Must've been a sign from the universe that i needed to watch this video immediately, of course
I still pretty much exclusively use Pinterest as a bookmarking sight. Bookmarks that contain photos is such a useful way to remember why I bookmarked something.
safiya, try middle mouse clicking instead of rightclicking to open a new tab. Life changer. You can also middle mouse click the tabs to close them (in the tab bar)
The most credible listing for the "red goth dress" seems to be by Enchantiva (sold at A&M Bridal). They don't have that exact gown on the website anymore, but they have an extremely similar one, pictured against the same background set, for $1,500 called Mystic Ivy.
@@randomgrmlin the Enchantiva dresses are all AI, though. At those prices I hope they have skilled stitchers making them real- something Firefly Path has done- but the designs themselves are AI
Immediately clicked! I have used Pinterest every day since also 2011-2012ish. I fall in love with all the clothes I see and it was good to see if they were actually legit. I would watch an accessories, a shoes, tops, pants, capes, whatever themed video of this again!
I'd love more of these! I'd love the accessories video. You could do wild headwear, including crowns, but it would be neat to see how you might wear them out in the real world and fit them in with your existing wardrobe.
You got the crown and shoulder feathers!! They suit you so well and the crown would look so good with any of the two first dresses 😍💙 (Also, yes, please do make a video where you buy fantasy jewelry and accessories😍)
Dear Safiya, You will probably never see this, but I look forward to your videos so much. whenever you post I get so excited!! Your content is just so high quality. So so so enjoyable. You are someone I really look up to as a fellow goth, and I want to thank you for your high quality and amazing content throughout the years. Thank you Saf :)
23:30 Maybe this says more about me..but I don't think this dress is that bad. I wouldn't think twice about it if I saw someone wearing this to an event 🤷♀️
Yeah honestly it looks like they did the best they could with the materials they could find. It's probably a seamstress in a poor country saying "I can make you a similar dress" but not realizing the fraudulence of advertising this way
Safiya, you are spot on that people picture you in bat wing sleeves all the time. It is so iconically you, that once I entered an avatar contest on a forum website that was youtuber themed and submitted an avatar based on you! I thought for sure I wouldn't win because in my mind yt is so subjective, and I didn't think anyone would recognize my choice of representative. While the voting was taking place others had submitted Mr. Beast, and KSI and just thise typically massive youtubers. But my Safiya avatar won first place! I gave you huge eyes, a huge smile, and ofc your iconic bat wing black dress with a celestial motif. So yea. The association is stronge!

I am pretty sure they don't care. Anymore than Etsy does that mcuh of their stuff is drop shipped from Alibabba. as long as people click click click.
She proceeded to show me hers and it blew my mind that hers is literally just a bunch of ads and links to purchasing stuff, it is such an un-fun experience to see Pinterest that way😅
I didn't walk here. I RAN 🏃♀️

4:01 CROWNS!!😂😂 Yes crowns as content!!
Yessss
Yes to the shrimp headband!
YES PLEASE DO AN UNREALISTIC CROWNS VIDEO, I NEED TO SEE YOU AND TYLER WEARING THE SHRIMP HEADBAND ❤❤❤❤
Shrimp headband with the fish flops.
I NEED a saf video where she dives deep into the goth subculture. Like actually getting into the music (80s like the cure, Siouxsie, sisters of mercy, joy division etc.), get a makeover, go to a goth club, say bar sinister in la 👀👀
oooooh different eras of goth, or different eras of alternative fashion!!!!
@ yesss!!
Yes to this!🖤
yesss!!!!
@@lylukkEras of goth!! The perfect intersection of the themes of this channel!
saf looks unironically stunning in the crown and epaulettes
That Teauta Matoshi dress is SO pretty on her!!
27:19 I lost it at the crown 😂😂😂 Those first two dresses make me wish the brands made plus size because I want one
From what I can see online, Tueta let's you do custom sizing so you can probably get a bigger size! I'm also plus size but I don't have the money or the place to get that dress, haha
@@kcnbt99Every single word you wrote.
Teuta does plus sizes and they do them well - like actually adapt the pattern instead of just sizing up 😊
7:45 Mia actually had her WEDDING dress made by tueota(spelling is horrid sorry) matoshi!!
Nevermind I just did a quick search, sisters!
I'm I the only one that thinks the dress Saf got from her looks like a mock up for her wedding party dress
@@elixir2984 they also have dresses dedicated to each other from each of their labels...the talent definitely runs in the family!!
I love how the background is totally feeling fiendish just goes to show how much Safyias style really deal come into the collab ❤
those first two gowns were gorgeous...and i love that you got yourself the crown just for kicks. seriously though, that fiverr intro song is great.
So excited to see Teuta Matoshi in this video!! Her and her sister, Lirika Matoshi are two of my favorite dreamy gown designers EVER!
I just went to the Lirika Matoshi website to check her out. Her designs are *BEAUTIFUL* 😮💨 I can't afford her, but mad respect
omg lirika matoshi was the one who designed the strawberry dress that went viral a couple years back! great work from both of them wow!
19:24 MORTICIA ADDAMS VIBES. I think that's why it's not flowy on the bottom: the vibe is Morticia. And it very, very much suits you, Safiya!
I remember so clearly when Pinterest rolled out its 'buyable pins' feature in like 2015 or 2016 or so! So much of what was trending at the time looking back was so catastrophic, I very clearly remember discovering a buyable pin with my sister that featured a holographic bridal gown. Insane.
Yeah so I definitely want to see that
If Cristine ever got married I would probably expect her dress to be holo, haha
She looks so pretty her makeup suits her so well I’m so glad she is thriving
Despite that red-green dress being a scam, that shade of red (not the lace) looks amazing on you, Safiya! Thank you for the video again!
16:19 Not the fire extinguisher being called a fire hydrant. 😂❤
It's the exact opposite of when Drew Gooden called a fire hydrant a fire extinguisher in his Little Italy video 😂
1:19 I’m sorry I need a Mia maples, hopescope, and Safiya collab!!!!!!
FR dream collab
Yesss
Yesssss! Can we please get a video of them thrifting together?
If I remember correctly, Safia and Hope did collab in a video where Safia wore a dress made out of... balloons? Or something odd. Did you see that one? I can't find it when I google, so somebody tell me if I'm misremembering. Edit: I see a video where Safia and Hope went to the lost luggage store together released June of 2022. Maybe Hope was the one who wore the dress. OK I'm done now 😆
Yesssss
I love how Safiya just shows up with the crown and refuses to explain XD
The editing was so good in this one, so many small super funny add ins.
Safiya wearing the crown at the end is killing me, I desperately want the accessories video! Show us all the crowns!
I‘m always amazed to see just how many unrealistically cheap clothes get advertised on those apps
Can’t wait for the video where they go somewhere fancy for Saf to wear these dresses and Tyler to wear his gym shorts
😂😂😂😂😂
The denver dress was 100% AI. Just look at how unsymmetrical the mannequin is and why on earth does it have a leg?
The Teuta Matoshi celestial crystal dress looks really cool! 🤩

@@nitsannachtom6660 sending out the bat signal? 😆
I love you just casually wearing the celestial crown and swan shoulders at the end. I think an unrealistic accessories video is absolutely necessary.
The intro song will always be my ❤
I love the cut to the commentary shot with the Etsy crown and shoulder armor at the end 😂 I had to rewind to make sure I saw it right!
The sparkle on that Teuta Matoshi dress is STUNNING
For the price point that ElleQueen dress is a damned good dupe. I'm actually really impressed with that one.
yes!! i it would be perfect for a photoshoot where you then photoshopped the torso piece to be more of a seamless transition! i think it would look super professional and gorgeous!! cause the tan shades not matching is the only obvious sign it’s a dupe for me!
So is no one gonna talk about how she looked like the mother from Adam’s family with that black dress and the long sleeves ???😭😭😭 I LOVED ITTT
commenting to say id be obsessed with the accesories video, i need to see the shrimp
Accidentally fell asleep super early, woke up in a cold sweat at 3:17am. Must've been a sign from the universe that i needed to watch this video immediately, of course
I got so excited when she bought the Teuta Matoshi dress because I KNEW it would look as good as it does on her
I still pretty much exclusively use Pinterest as a bookmarking sight. Bookmarks that contain photos is such a useful way to remember why I bookmarked something.
I love the crown!! Yes! Definitely do an accessories video!!!
safiya, try middle mouse clicking instead of rightclicking to open a new tab. Life changer. You can also middle mouse click the tabs to close them (in the tab bar)
Hopescope and mia maples mentions in a safiya video? My three fav UA-camrs are colliding 🎉🎉🎉
Same!!! 🙌
The most credible listing for the "red goth dress" seems to be by Enchantiva (sold at A&M Bridal). They don't have that exact gown on the website anymore, but they have an extremely similar one, pictured against the same background set, for $1,500 called Mystic Ivy.
Oh those are DEFINITELY AI listings. I'd stake my life savings on it.
Seems like the ai images could have used the original dress as a source then
@@randomgrmlin the Enchantiva dresses are all AI, though.

I get so happy when Saf and Mia mention each other lol its just the queens acknowledging each other, i live for it tbh! I would loooovvveee a collab!
6:54 Tyler😂😂😂😂 CLEVELAND 😂😂😂😂😂🎉
The fire extinguisher bit got me. Thow some fake ivy around it and stand next to it in the last dress for a "who wore it better," flashback! 😂
when I thought about how much I like Hope and Mia doing these hauls and you named them too I swooned
the second dress - black Diarablue - reminds me of something Stevie Nicks used to wear back in the '70's with Fleetwood Mac...lovely choices....
Multiple mentions of my fav youtuber Mia Maples!!! I NEED a Safiya/Mia collab!!!!!! Bring back the era of youtuber collabs!!
My exact reaction!
YES! New video wasn’t ready but i am now
Really hope you do this kind of thing again! I love watching Mia and Hope do it but my aesthetic is more like yours.
I'd love more of these! I'd love the accessories video. You could do wild headwear, including crowns, but it would be neat to see how you might wear them out in the real world and fit them in with your existing wardrobe.
safiya's like that one neighbor that does all the cool stuff that other people think is weird but come to love as you get to know her.
you know it’ll be a good day when safiya uploads
Love Mia Maples! Definitely recommend for anyone that enjoys Saf’s content! Less bat sleeves but still very well put together!
Less bats more butterflies haha I love her
@@scarlett8895 and color hehe
She and her mother are adorable
You got the crown and shoulder feathers!! They suit you so well and the crown would look so good with any of the two first dresses 😍💙
(Also, yes, please do make a video where you buy fantasy jewelry and accessories😍)
Safiya in the second dress is giving Morticia, I'm bewitched
Dear Safiya,
You will probably never see this, but I look forward to your videos so much. whenever you post I get so excited!!
It's probably a seamstress in a poor country saying "I can make you a similar dress" but not realizing the fraudulence of advertising this way
Also the smell would be bug spray from the shipping company, not the seller's fault
Sooooo happy Saf just posted! My night is complete! 🖤
The Teuta Matoshi dress was stunning on you, and the sleeves on the Diarrablu dress were phenomenal! ❤
I love you for saying 'Caveat" correctly. Also my gothy heart loves this video.
i LOVE teuta matoshi's designs. i have no place to wear them, but i still hope to own one someday. i'm so glad they're just as gorgeous in person!!
I got so much joy from you cutting away to wearing a crown
I changed my yt avatar to the entry if anyone wants to see it.
@@danielleschmidt2954that is good!
OMG Safiya we have the exact same boho dressing gown that looks like Florence and the Machine would float about in it on our pintrest home page...
I knew there was a reason I liked your work.
