  • In his last Christmas message as Governor of Gibraltar, Sir David Steel has reflected on what he called this 'wonderful' community he considers 'home'.
Sir David recalled his visit to Pope Francis earlier this year with the Chief Minister, revealing how he had referred to Gibraltar as 'unique' and a place to 'treasure'.
The Governor said it had been a huge privilege to serve in Gibraltar and paid tribute to the education system, medical services, local charities, sports men and women, and the Armed Forces.
However, he warned against posting 'misplaced or misjudged anger' on social media saying it is best to reflect on how best to serve the community rather than wantonly criticising aspects of it.
Quoting St Luke who wrote that at the birth of Christ "all went to their home towns", Sir David said he was glad to return for Christmas to what has become his home in Gibraltar.
