While we are waiting for boat launch, Roma and I have been chatting about internal design. We like modern slat walls, but will it work and fit in a narrowboat ceiling (Deck Head)? I run through design and measuring to see if it will.

It’s an interesting concept. It is used a lot in camper van conversations (Sprinters and the like)… I would check out a few camper conversation videos too. They often incorporate LED strip lighting behind diffuser strip which might be of interest also 🤔

You can buy ply / sheet material in 10 x 5 aswell as 8x4.

Hi great listening to your theories but as another viewer mentioned remember the curve in roof as measurements need to be adjusted for it. Looking forward to the build 😎

On my current narrowboat the ceiling is long strips of cladding in a light coloured wood that is not pine. The electric cables both DC and 240 AC are run in plastic trunking under the gunnels. Easily accessible by unclipping one side of the trucking. This space under the gunnels is created because the upper wall panals hang over the lower side wall panals by about 5cm. There are two sets of trucking side by side. The DC in one and the AC in the other. To feed ceiling lights branches go off to switches and then to the lights. To feed the sockets the cables run down to them. The ceiling lights are all led recessed fittings and I have many zones. It's only a suggestion but when fitting out the boat make it easy to get to plumbing, electrics, gas etc. Boats have to endure cold damp weather each winter and I have nearly always found a water leak each spring even when domestic water is drained.

If you want a bright space don’t go for plywood. If you varnish it goes dark with age. IMO best option is side cable roots and use a ship lap mdf, comes in sheets and can be sprayed any colour to suit yourself. 👍🏼
