I hardly ever comment on videos BUT you Sir have a great video. You show, test, and demonstrate hands on in 15 minutes. Then you do not repeat unnecessary information. Plus save us money. Great Thanks a million !
Great video! The video had enough detail in plain English to help me understand the system and feel comfortable enough to do it myself! It was also very entertaining! Thanks for putting it out there!
If it isn't the fuse it could be a broken wire. On my car the window would work randomly. If it works sometimes common sense should tell you it isn't the fuse. Try this first, the accordion looking plastic you see when you open your door is supposed to protect the wire. When you open and close the door, overtime the wires can become kinked or broken. Try squeezing or manipulating (not too aggressively) the "accordion" while holding the switch to see if it moves. If it does the wire can be located and repaired with a butt connection. If the window still doesn't work when you try this it could be a motor or something else..I saved $300 by fixing the wire on the door. Thanks
ok, thnanks, just one more thing for now, on this buick, everytime i start it, the blower come on or the heater, andyways , where do u suggest to look for .
hey there, Klown, ts bert, i have this 94 buick lesabre, with power door locks, with the puch button door handles on the outside, but the driver side only opens from the inside,, and what tips would u suggest to look for once i take the panel off.
Hey klowny, thanks for posting the video.I am in Toronto,Canada and I have a sunfire GT with power windows and of course the drivers side isn't working,so i'm going to tackle it using the test light like you showed,so glad I don't have to get the power meter to do it,even though its good to have, your way is simpler though.I also have an 85' Black Trans Am and love the third gens too!...
What do I check if the master switch on the driver side no longer controls the passenger side window? It has been that way since I bought my E250 Ford van a few years ago. Since then I have replaced the motor on either side in the past year, as well as the master switch, thinking that it was the switch itself. The switch was only $13, so thought I'd give it a shot. Of course the fuse works since both windows work. So it has to be the wiring, but not sure where exactly the problem wire is. And where it goes into the door it's clustered with a bunch of other wires about an inch and a half thick, and covered in rubber. So doubt the issue is in that area.
A lot of these newer power windows have their own fuse somewhere in the line usually behind the dash. Don’t just check the window fuse and think that’s the only fuse to check. Edited: Refer to the vehicles electrical wiring diagram, usually found towards the back of the maintenance / overhaul / Haynes / Chiltons / Mitchell’s manual
Your best as always. Happy Thanksgiving to the King. All hail Klowney. You Rock and save our lives everyday. I pray that I break down in your neighborhood only. Have a great day Sir.
Hey mate , i have a 02 elantra and i had issues with the front driver window would work on and off ,,, finally completly stop but now i notice that all 4 windows dont work ... so i was pretty sure my motor for my main door was finish but now what about all other windows would i be right in thinking either fuse or relay ? and if relay witch one to go check at the one under the steering wheel floor ? or the one in the oustide box under the hood ? thanks mate
A very good detailed video to diagnose power window issues. I got to ask, if you hang around "Bowser" from the group "Sha Na Na". You sure do sound like him...LOL
Hi, klown, its bert again, just wanted to ask u, i have this 94 buick lesabre, and i want to spray the head lilner with some spray glue, do u suggest one 18 oz, can will do the job. thanks
1989 ford-- have 12 volts at door motors but not enough amps to spin strong enough. Motors work fine when direct to battery under hood. One switch has high resistance (bench test) at both sides. The weird thing is if i tap the good switch the motors work intermediately?
My passenger window wasn’t working, it would work randomly but not often, as I check the switches the previous owner ran power cables to the window switches to power the stereo. I put the wires all back together how they suppose to be, now when I put hit the passenger switch down it automatically kills the power on the car when ignition on. Seems to be pulling way to much voltage when I hit the switch and window won’t roll down either. Any idea what I should look for before I dig further?
helpful, do you have a video to explain when two switches work the rear window, on my 2006 honda ridgeline, neither switch works, tested motor by direct wiring, it works. There is power to rear switch, but not to motor plug. just buzzes when run the switch. bought a new switch, same result, power is not getting to motor. Any ideas?
Very thorough tutorial. I've never used one of those light meters, but when you say have it on a good power source, was that just on a grounded part of the vehicle? Also, when you back checked (because you like to back check that shit) the wires Did you stick the probe up through the back there? I'm guessing that's same as un-clipping it and sticking the probe in the hole? Thanks for the help.
A power source on a car is anywhere you get 12 volts. You also have to have one lead of the light or meter on ground. This is how you check for voltage. He is checking from the bottom so he can check the switch plugged into the harness. You can unplug the switch and check it at the top, but all you can check is the power going to the switch.
I checked my diagram here, here, HERE...here, here, and, HERE and HERE and here and even HERE HERE HERE HERE HERE, and just to be certain, I also checked it RIGHT HERE. And, I tell ya, it doesn't say here, or, HERE, here, or, RIGHT HERE, really anywhere in the entire diagram. It doesn't even say here, or even the closely related, "there" anywhere in this entire manual for my vehicle. So your diagram is clearly far far more advanced than anything the publisher of my manual could ever even dream of coming up with. Oh, I'm definitely subscribing, though! I want to hear if you can help me out with other problems I might be having, like the ones I have here, and heer, and hear, and HERE, AND HEREHEREHEREHEREHERE, and this crap right HERE, AND if by chance you have a manual on one of these right HERE, I'd be all ears to hear what you could point out on how to find that one trouble area I just can't seem to find, but I'm sure you could easily point it out to me. That would be cool. Don't ask. Yes, I counted. I have the official number right.........
If your switch is bad get some sandpaper and clean off the contact prongs on the switch. They get rusty over time and cause the switch not to work. Use some dielectric grease and put back together. Since these wires are in the door panel they are exposed to some element of moisture and every camaro owner knows water is not our friend when it comes to the electrical system. Also the power windows have a underpowered system which cause motor fatigue and eventually failure. When you get into the turn signal, headlight, and daytime running light issue the DRL box discovery and resoldering becomes a fun venture of insanity.
Is that a Jersey accent? Thanks so much for this video. One thing I never thought I could get was anything electrical, but you break it down right! You should WRITE short manual booklets. Thanks again - John (South Florida)
Seems like a wire might be crossed on the ignition hot ..u can try tracing the blower motor wires to see if anything seems loose..u can also get a wiring diagram off of alldatadiy com for like twenty bux..the ignition circuit shares a power or ground with ur blower motor circuit..also check relay to the motor..
klowny1969 : i recently bought a used 2005 BMW X5 and is having some issues with passenger side front door. I have been trying to DIY this issue myself and that got me to your video. Hey Scotty, I'm having an issue with my Ford Expedition (2004). I rolled down the driver's side back window all of the way from the driver's side, but it wouldn't roll back up. I tried rolling it up with the actual driver's side back window switch, including pulling up while pressing up on the button. Nothing. Also tried holding both the driver's and back switches at the same time - nothing. Couldn't even hear a motor trying to work, no lights dimming. Finally, I held the driver's side and the back driver's side buttons (both on the driver's side window control unit) up at the same time; the lights dimmed a little, and the window (begrudgingly) went up. Thankfully didn't have to do a tape job that night. What issue would you say this is? I noticed that only one of the switches on the driver's side window control unithad a backlight. I have issues with all of the other windows as well. I just got this car knowing it's had some problems but I'm worried to roll any other window down - the "mechanic/salesman" guy at the dealership, which I bought this car from (as is, can't take it back) said not to mess with at least the driver's side window because he had to manually make it go up. I'm guessing the passenger window controls are provided power from the main driver's side switch, which connects to the fuse, to the battery? I've heard someone said it's bad contacts. Maybe bad wires? Might explain why only one switch has a backlight.

Hi, there Klown, im just curious, when a person want to subscribe to your channel is it free, and if so, are the rest of these channels on here free also, thanks

That is awesome! We have a car club here in new york our website is nythirdgen ..just google it..it wont let me put the address on here ..you should join and post pictures of your car .. We have some nice cars here too..
The whole ground concept is throwing me.. I need analogies & metaphors..I just don't understand the concept of ground.. what is ground & why does it keep changing.. uhhhh!
I just figured out this test is not valid, due the fact the circuit's ground itself was not included while testing. The switch was not grounding the circuit, so a motor was bought instead of the switch... this video wasted my time and money... in addition, the ground and positive side needs a voltage drop test to check if it can hold a load and run the motor. So warning to all, grounding a test light "externally from the circuit" is useless as you are not testing the entire circuit itself...
You didn't take shop class for safety I presume. No rings, bracelets or neck-ties when working on cars or with power tools. Otherwise good vid. Be safe...

The whole ground concept is throwing me.. I need analogies & metaphors..I just don't understand the concept of ground.. what is ground & why does it keep changing.. uhhhh!
wow lol wel
Are you the only person in greece with a thirdgen? Lol
Subscribe to my channel :)
You didn't take shop class for safety I presume.
No rings, bracelets or neck-ties when working on cars or with power tools. Otherwise good vid.
