Great setup, interesting hammock setup new to me and I have a few setups, not one of the big 3 you usually hear about. Thanks for sharing your setup. Just a note, I hope people don't leave wet wipes in the ground. Single ply tp is really the max you should leave. I keep a separate ziplock bag and just take the used tp with me, but understand people don't like to carry used tp. But always take the wet wipes out with you !
i love the hammock camp and ultralight gear!! great spot too, nice view. i’m sorry but i have to say it - i hate how you just chuck your specially selected ultralight items onto the floor!
Hey AJ. I have always been a sub but just noticed after seeing this on FB that I wasn't anymore for some reason?! I fixed that and I'll catch up on what I've missed when I can! I know you know Danny, and I've met him too (great guy). His hammocks have changed my life!! Great video dude! Jealous of your setup!
Hey Andrew, it's a really amazing pack for backpacking or fastpacking. I still need to put more miles on it before I give it a full review. Stay tuned!
I own a Salomon running vest, the Palante Joey and now the Cutaway and this is by far my favorite. Definitely worth taking a look if you are in the market.
Hi, I read some comments about Cloud 71 saying it's not that good at a certain point, are you still happy with yours ? Another thing : what do you think about the SuperiorCocoon (I am thinking about getting one if I choose this hammock, which I am about to do, so I would be interested in having your point of view...) ? Thanks !
Hi Benjamin. Cloud 71 has had issues for a lot of people. I haven't had any but the Cloud71 stretches more than other similar fabrics which can cause other dependent fabrics to fail that are under it. I would avoid it at this point. The Superior Cacoon is a slam dunk. I have one and love it!
Thanks a lot Pete from SG just answer a mail I sent to them ; they don't use Cloud71 currently. I take this opportunity to ask you something more : have you tried full and/or half bug net ? (I learnt in the mail that the Cocoon can only be used with half big net ... did you try this ?) Thanks !!
Im surprised you dont carry a midlayer like a fleece or something but you prolly don't hike at high altitude right? I have my eyes on an OMM Core hoodie which is just 110g. Might be interesting to you as well. Kind regards
Hey Jack, thanks for watching! I typically hike at high altitude a few times a year but usually haven't needed a fleece. I find that the OR Echo Hoodie combined with my rain jacket gets me through most temperatures during shoulder season even at altitude. If I am expecting consistently cold temps with rain I have a Patagonia R1 1/4 zip that I really like and will add to the kit. Most of the time though, this is all I need.
I assume those are the Salomon Bonatti WP pants? (product link didn't work). I'd love to hear your wet experiences with them and how you feel they hold up to abrasion and brush, etc.
Hi Fredrik, you are correct, these are the Salmon Bonatti WP pants. I updated the link since it looks like they are no longer available on Salomon's website. I really like them, rain pants for me have typically been heavy and do not breathe at all so they almost always feel gross when you wear them. These are great, they have a more slim fit, they are pretty light, they breathe well and I have had no holes or wear issues caused by abrasion and brush. There is a spot where I melted them a little because a friends deet container leaked onto them and sat overnight but it has not affected the performance. If you are in extended rain they will soak through a bit but that has only happened once or twice and I find it's not that big of a deal on your legs.
@@juicehikes5436 Gonna have to check those out then, cause I've been looking for something like these for a while. Got a pair of dead bird Beta SL pants but they're way overkill for pretty much anything other than alpine conditions. Thanks for the info 😀
I was surprised to see your straps clock in at such a heavy weight. Have you tried some thing like the 2 ounce strap system from hummingbird hammocks and just didn’t like it?
At some point you realize that function over weight wins out. I really like the straps that I use in this setup regardless of the weight. That being said, I've been recently trying out Superior Gear's Elite system which uses titanium hooks and whoopies and I've like that quite a bit. Just 2.7 oz.
@@juicehikes5436 Yeah I ended up going with the Palace and in Camo, a little heavier, but it has a little less see through and helps for stealth camping.
I do filter the water, it's probably not 100% necessary but I only carry one water bottle and it only holds clean water so when I use the culoclean its always with clean water.
Were you referring to the bug netting? Some companies make asymmetrical bug nets that are cut so that you lay one way or the other but not both. I think the SG bug net is symmetrical meaning you can lay either way with and do not have to choose. In my experience (I own both) it doesn't make a huge difference with the SG hammock because the sag and the width are a little different than other hammocks. You get a great lay either way you choose.
Thanks for tuning in Al! I love the Evo Speedgoats, in addition to everything I mentioned in the video they also have the widest foot box I have experienced in a Hoka which was great to see. Hopefully they work for your foot! I use the GPS on my phone (typically Guthooks or Gia) for navigation. I have used a Garmin mini from time to time for FKT tracking but haven't really needed the emergency features since I typically hike with a group.
Thanks for the post. I’m seriously looking at the SG hammock. How low a temperature do you think a 45* hammock paired with a 15* top quilt could go. I know, don’t worry about exacts, just your best guess. Thanks
I've definitely loved my SG hammock! If you took a 45 SG hammock and snapped on a 15 degree top quilt it would probably give you a comfort rating of -10 to -20 degrees F.
Gotcha, SG's top quilts are meant to double as added under insulation if you choose. The snaps that close the quilt also align with the snaps on the outside of the hammock. Pretty cool IMO.
Juice Hikes My current thought is get a 45* hammock and comforter. If I go in cold temperatures, put the comforter on the bottom and use the 15* UGQ. Yes?
@@barondavis5692 yup! I use a 30 SG hammock/30 TQ and in winter I snap the TQ to the bottom which gets me down to -10/-20. I use an EE 20 degree quilt and combine it with the SG cacoon
Have you had any issues with the cloud71 fabric such as excess static, snags, tears etc? I know it's been only slightly more than a month since you posted this video but since it is such a new fabric on the market and I have read some failure issues on hammock forums, I am concerned about its durability.
No issues so far! With the Superior Hammock the Cloud71 is the top layer that you lay on and it's protected by a second layer underneath so the only potential snags would be on things you are wearing or storing in your hammock. So far, its fantastic but time will tell.

Nashville Packs makes some great stuff! Also, the Superior Hammock is probably the best hammock on the market in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

The only one that I know of is Enlightened Equipment's Revolt Synthetic underquilt.

Nope! It depends on the temp though if it's above 80 at night it can be a little warm.
