    I appreciate your openness and honesty about the pack and your ownership interest, and pretty classy to not bash your old pack. I love my Nashville Pack but think competition is good and part of progress for the whole hiking community. The more innovation and options, the better.

      Thanks for the response! Competition only benefits the hiking community and I think both companies have a lot to offer. I still really like all my Nashville products and have a good relationship with the team over there. I hope they continue to grow and succeed in the outdoor market.

    Guess, you are not a "near" daily vlogger.
    You are not a frequent vlogger, I guess I will look forward to your summary videos.
    However, I'm really enjoying the "frequent" vloggers(Lil Chap, Hiker Dancer, Heard Hiker, Fought on foot...etc.).
    Those vid's on the PCT really "takes us there" on the trail.
    Especially, for Angelenos and West coasters.
    Our weather is your trail weather, and it's amazing when caught on video.
    Not hating on "after the fact" vids, but it's just not the same.

      No, I'm not a daily vlogger. I'm also not thru-hiking the PCT this year. The gear list was just for a section of the PCT but could easily be used as a thru-hiking kit. I just released the trip video today ua-cam.com/video/7J7BxPKlltM/v-deo.html.

  • @WilliamKapes

    I really like the Ranger but every time I look at other packs I find myself not wanting to give up the vest style straps. Did you miss that when switching to the Ranger?

    • @juicehikes5436
      @juicehikes5436  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey William! I thought I would miss them more than I did. Both packs were equally comfortable to carry all day. The Nashville Pack just puts most of the weight on your chest and lower back while The Ranger distributes the weight more on the top of your back and shoulders as well as your lower back. Both are great, just different styles. Cheers!

    does your quilt has 850FP or 950FP down type? do you a draft collar on it? when you say 20 degree you mean fahrenheit (or celsius)? thanks alot (( when will be available the 50L framed pack from Evolved supply co? is there a way to pay less customs fees if buying from Europe? thanks again)) 🤙

    • @juicehikes5436

      My quite uses 950 down with the draft collar. Yes, it's rated to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. We are working on the 50L pack but it won't be available until later this year. Unfortunately when it comes to customs fees we have zero say or control over what is charged and it varies from country to country. Cheers!

      nice im looking forward to it. do you have experience with wolfs and foxes during your thruhikes, especially during the night? online i find people advising to eat and hang the food on a tree at least 100ft from the tent, also wanted to ask you how you deal with ticks wearing all the time running shorts except using a spray repellent. thanks. greetings from italy

    • @juicehikes5436
      @juicehikes5436  4 місяці тому +1

      @@OQULTO I have some experience with both wolves and foxes but no real issues. You just encounter them sometimes on trail or at night but they usually keep their distance. I treat all my clothes in Permethrin for tick prevention and when necessary I use Picardin lotion which keeps ticks, flies, and mosquitoes at bay. The lotion lasts around 12 hours too which is great!

    You could not fit a normal sized bear canister into that backpack. I also doubt that food for a week would fit, even if it is empty. Through-hiking with a pack smaller than a daypack does not seem like a rational choice.

    • @juicehikes5436
      @juicehikes5436  5 місяців тому

      The Ranger is a 45L pack with plenty of room if your gear is dialed in. I had 5 days of food and full comfort items with room to spare. Lots of people carry smaller packs than this on thru hikes. It fits a BV450 on the inside and you can attach a larger bear can on the top. There are only a few places in the US that it’s necessary to carry a bear can so that’s not much of a concern. Pretty rational choice for a pack as far as I’m concerned.

    • @NVIK5
      @NVIK5 5 місяців тому

      @@juicehikes5436 it probably depends on your daily consumption and height, I am 6'2'' and my food takes up a lot more room. I have a Copper Spur 2 person tent, Western mountaineering sleeping bag and I can hardly fit everything into a 60L pack.

    • @juicehikes5436
      @juicehikes5436  5 місяців тому

      @@NVIK5 possibly but I’m 6’1 and consume 3000-4000 calories a day. Your tent and sleeping bag take up a lot more room than the Altaplex tent and Enlightened Equipment quilt I carried on this trip though. Also how you pack your largest volume items can have a lot of impact. Tons of people have completed thru hikes on all the major trails using this pack.

    LOL, 2 days of battery life NOT good. My garmin gets weeks and that's with using the GPS function frequently each week for running and Crossfit. Why any hiker would use an apple watch is mind boggling.

    • @juicehikes5436
      @juicehikes5436  6 місяців тому

      I used Garmins for over a decade (both the Fenix and Forerunner) and just recently switched to the Apple Watch Ultra. They both have their drawbacks, battery life being one of them for the Apple Watch. As an everyday smart watch though the Apple Watch is just better. If I was hiking for 3-4 months straight and the main purpose was only to track activities I would probably opt for the Garmin with significantly better battery.
