    1000 watt inverter, 1000Watts/12V=83.33Amp. That's larger than the 50Amp fuse used on the alternator charger. Also, the wire running from the alternator to the battery if stock is 12-gauge tops. If you are needing more power upgrade it and the ground wire. You can get welding cable that 0-gauge and that will make a huge difference. Also auto zone and most part stores sale 120amp alternator. I would highly recommend upgrade to a 200 amp. I am a stereo guy. I never run stock alternators. There way to small even for a 1000Watt amp. There is also a thing called the big three. Upgrading your big threee grounds google it, It’s worth doing.

    • @scottlampe70
      @scottlampe70 6 років тому

      that would be 1000W output at 120V. 8.3A AC and with losses mabey 10A on the DC side.

    • @minitrucker007
      @minitrucker007 6 років тому

      You are forgetting about the DC-AC conversion first. The power must be converted to AC from DC still before the AC process can happen. Making my math above accurate.

    Cheap is ALWAYS more expensive. Save some money and get high quality stuff, not your standard old military surplus garbage. Plenty of brands have the "surplus/military" feel you like with amazing products for a reasonable price.
    Go for brands like Snugpak (you're really gonna love their products), Nemo, Mountainsmith, Marmot, Big Agnes.

    Gotta love it when we forget to check the easy crap. The batteries on my truck would drain down to nothing in an hour just sitting. After 2 weeks of trouble shooting, tearing out the battery cables, and my hair, all it was was my seat adjuster switch getting stuck in the on position when I closed the door. The mount had broken 2 weeks prior.

    You might step up your alternator. I did a 170amp conversion on my XJ and it made a huge difference. All I had to do was a little triming on the alt bracket. Oh and to blow 2 50 amp fuses, you probably got some water in somewhere that caused a short.

    Those ecms like to get rusty pins and lose their ground plane. I would inspect the terminals on the harness for corossion and if that's the problem some people solder a new ground wire to the corroded terminal. Might be worth having a second ECU and a box of fuses on hand.

    Jake, Power inverters are known to spike in amps when hot and more so when very humid out if it is one without a cooling Fan - Simple protection for your rig if you need to use the inverter is to add a fuse in the cable that powers the inverter. if you can't make or find one give me a yell and I will need some information on your inverter then I will make you what is needed

    Glad it was just fuses. If you see symptoms like that pop up again, along with the Jeep becoming harder to start when it gets cold (fall, winter), you may have an issue with the capacitors in the ECU/PCM. Common problem for 2.5L/4.0L Jeeps, and something to be aware of. Another symptom is you may see your volt meter showing higher and higher readings, which will lead to your battery getting cooked, as the computer regulates power output from the alternator. When the capacitors start to go bad, random things will start to happen, and can be a real pain to try and diagnose.
    I had to replace the capacitors in my YJ's ECU. Solved all kinds of issues with my engine.

    Didn’t you put in a stronger alternator awhile back? With more amperage you need bigger fuses.

    I have a 1985 cj8 that I stripped out all the old wiring and got a new wiring harness from painless wiring installed a single wire dui distrubtor and I have 5 wires that go to my engine water temp oil pressure coil and 2 wires for my alternator after I did that I never had electrical issues again

      SouthWestOffRoad aka SWxOR - 25 years doesn't mean you're doing it correctly. I was being sarcastic earlier and you totally took it the wrong way. Maybe the Arizona / New Mexico or where ever you said you live, heat is getting to you... Btw your 4.0 is super clean, looks good.

    Fuses blow man they are cheap consumables. I know the feeling of chasing your tail trying to find the issue it can be very frustrating. Do yourself a favor get spare fuses for every size you have. Luckily the 4.0 ones are relatively cheap and will save you on the back end from days like this. Just my two cents cast it where you want! Hope they get the tent issue squared away with you. That also had to be a pain in the neck to deal with. Keep on Jeepin on, sweet channel!

    Was it the Alternator, sounded like the Alternator? What did you do in the military?

  • @travishall3137
    @travishall3137 6 років тому

    It's probably not a big enough alternator to run the inverter for a long period. Running a grinder or another tool even if it is pulling more amperage than the alternator produces will be ok because it can draw the extra current from the battery. In this case you were running to much load for too long and if the alternator can't keep up and it draws the battery down to far then you have problems. If you had a battery voltage meter you could charge until you see your battery voltage start dropping to much and then shut it off for awhile to let it charge back up and then continue charging. Another option would be a larger alternator. Sorry for the long post. Hope it helps
