This is what I was thinking as well. It feels good finally having longswords that are agile and graceful, I'm glad I switched my faith/str build to faith/dex.
Its nice to see From finally giving in and adding non consumable versions of things like throwing knives and perfumes. These are cool parts of the previous from games, but always get relegated to "rarely used utility".
Consumables were the main appeal for me in Elden Ring, the only issue was having to farm for materials or the souls to buy more. I'm so glad games finally allow a playstyle focused around more than just man with sword, man with bow or man with magik. There's nothing I enjoy more than that survival game type where you use everything at your disposal besides a main weapon. The only thing the game needs now is is a rework for that atrocious UI and give you an actual gear wheel or something like a belt to be able to access your consumables properly besides scrolling ONE way to get to the ones you need.

reverse grip swords are like the medieval equivalent to holding your gun sideways lmao Edit: First things first thanks for the likes. 2nd I am aware it is a fantasy game and the comment wasn't meant to critizise realism in the game, i just think it looks kinda goofy how the character walks around holding his swords the "wrong" way.
It's very funny to me that you compared the greathammer throw animation to mario64, when the Bowser throw animation is itself inspired by the Olympic sport of... Hammer throwing
the trowing and perfume bottles are PERFECT to me, not only for obviously those that want to mix a bit more ranged into their playstyle without committing to bows but having a free ranged attack and pseudo-magical attack really is great for magic builds who want a weapon that still feels like magic but doesent make you ration out your fp, glintstone pebble cna be replaced with a magic enhance dagger, or just slap people with your bottled lighting
Fantastic preview, I can't wait to get my hands on the DLC. This might sound stupid, but the biggest change I am excited for myself is the Torrent upgrade, because when you reach mid to late game Torrent gets knocked down and killed so easily, deterring his usage in most encounters and bossfights. I've been following your content since the good old Dark Souls 3 invasion videos, it's heartwarming to see the long journey this channel, and the dark souls community has taken, keep cooking king.
bro the beast claw looks so sporadic, but i feel like considering how fast the weapon is, theres probably a boss or bosses who are as fast or faster than us with that weapon🤧
With how sporadic they are all I can picture is watching someone fight with them in places like stormveil & throwing themselves off the roof by accident. 😆😆
@@DanTheReaperMann however, with big bosses like rykard or Elden beast, the weapon would work wonders 🫡, just generally big bosses or bosses with big or inclosed arenas, otherwise gravity will be getting the most kills in your run 😭
You've done a really great job here. The down-to-earth attitude you bring to the table is exactly why I felt confident going into this video without the worry of being told so much that my firsthand excitement would be diminished, and you delivered on that. Exactly the right level of insight on what to look forward to, coupled with open and honest critiques that I really appreciate. This is one of the few videos I've seen in the lead up to a big release that makes me feel actually prepared for it. Now I can go into this DLC level-headed and excited at once. Thanks!
Came here after watching Vaati’s video. I’m glad you were able to preview the DLC and share with us. I can tell you’re just as excited as us to play. That being said I agree with you that we should also check out Vaatividya ‘ s impressions on his 3 hour preview but not only for some lore, but his descriptions of the enemies he encountered and remembrances and weapons that weren’t shown in the B Roll. It was very detailed.
I appreciate your efforts to stay level-headed and also point out what you didn't like rather than just hyping it up even more than it already is. Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. --I'll still buy the DLC no matter what, though--
I can't wait to see "can I beat DLC only in loin clothes" challanges! Seriously thank you for all crazy hard work you do for our entertaiment. Btw I didn't play souls game but I love your voice. Its so calming.
The narration of your experiences, hands down that was 10 out of 10. I'm always reluctant to buy dlc content, especially with how lack luster games have felt lately, but after seeing this, you got me excited to experience this game all over again. Thank you for that.
I started on Dark Souls 2 which I never finished I never finished Dark Souls 3 I did finish bloodborne I still have not finished sekiro even though I've tried to beat that game like eight times. All that is to say is that when I discovered iron pineapples Channel it was about the time that Elden ring was coming out and I didn't get a chance to play that game until the end of 2023 and I now have almost 400 hours in Elden ring I'm a level 370 something character and I'm on new game plus four or Journey 5 depending on how you count it. All that is to say thank you for introducing me to one of my favorite games of all time and for making videos that made me want to go back and complete the series which I am still in the process of doing. So thanks, you literally changed my life

Your video got me to try elden ring on launch, my first fromsoft game. now I'm working through DS1 Bloodborne, and elden ring NG+, and looking forward to devouring this DLC
Same. I went From Soft crazy after I absolutely loved the first play-through of ER. There was no other game like it that I’d ever played that I became so invested and immersed. Then I ran through all of the Dark Souls trilogy and Bloodborne. From Soft are my favorite games now..Haha. Make sure you don’t skip over Dark Souls 3. It’s become one of my favorite games, other than ER. But yes I can’t wait for Shadow of the Erdtree. I don’t want spoilers, but this DLC looks all-time good, from the little I have seen.
This DLC is going to hit so hard. I’m excited to see them putting out some cool mid range full non consumable options in the game. Though, twinking got some insane upgrades with it lol
16:00 Hello! That's a bloodborne enemy! I'd know that enemy design from ANYWHERE! I died to it so many times running through a small parklike area in Bloodborne only for it to ambush and grab me, hit me with a madness damage proc and kill me instantly!
I wanna watch this so bad, but no spoilers i want to experience the whole thing by myself that was the charm of the base game ill just have to wait hope you had fun tho iron.
The martial art and beast claw weapons are everything I could've asked for. Finally we can be the rune bear and give Hoarah Loux a proper fight. All I need is an arcane scaling one for a dragon communion build (could literally just be dragon claws). I'm still on copium hoping for a full transformation to be added in the dlc like bloodborne did with beast and vegetable form. Dragon communion giving you lizard eyes was cool but actually turning into a monster would be so much cooler.
Congratulations on getting the opportunity to play, and appreciate you taking the time out to share. I'm glad things are looking food, and hopefully their servers will be able to handle the onslaught
i kind of dreaded the idea that you could find a magma wyrm in some nowhere cave, but now that you've said it, it sounds kind of hilarious and i'm down for it
I don't like or play these games but enjoyed every second of this video. Beautiful and stunning visuals and the narration is easy to listen to! Maybe I'll give ER a try.
I noticed two interesting armor sets in these gameplay clips: -A robed set with the hat that a samurai looking character might wear. -A barbarian looking armor set which is actually an existing set called "Brave's Set" that was cut from the game but is now in the DLC, which makes sense.
it's nuts to me that this guy saying their might be re-used assets has already got people riding the disappointment train. They havent even touched it themselves and are already complaining lmao. people saying that "they didnt listen to us" are kind of being ridiculous. the level design seems much improved, the areas seem denser with a greater variety in the way things connect or in the way areas mix legacy dungeon with other kinds of locations, the lore is already smacking too. (Vaati video if you want to see). I bet their will also be a lot of things that they did do right that will go unnoticed. But anyway, as for me, im excited. I can't wait and these days are going by so slow. Currently hunting down the Baleful Shadow in my new playthrough. I'll see y'all in the DLC! Can't wait to see those new weapons, new elden bling, but most of all....NEW LORE videos from all my favorite creators. I'm beyond excited. Although, this goes to show why sometimes companies wont give players bad news. Even a sliver of it and people are trying to act like its the biggest piece of ish ever lmao. i also think the critique of the 3 hour mark didnt jive with me because players had the choice to go at whatever speed they want to go. You know this preview event was a good opportunity for your channel and you wanted to share some news but you chose to speed through things as fast as possible, you cant blame that on the time limit.its really your skill and familiarity with these games that made you speed through it. when people buy it, im sure youll take it slow and really hunt down the secrets and ideas behind the dlc better.
To me, it would feel *extremely unusual* if there weren't a handful of enemies and bosses that were added in straight from the base game. This is still Elden Ring, and having those kinds of enemies around helps keep the worlds feeling connected to each other despite their differences.
See, at that point I can't help but feel you're looking for an answer that was probably a lot simpler on Fromsoft's perspective. You don't need to look for an excuse.
for real? they're so huge, fast and hit pretty hard, are you sure you aren't thinking of the erdtree avatars? cuz I could see myself agreeing with that lol, stomping the new asylum demon variant is like a souls game tradition at this point.
If I can ask, what do you like about them? I find them meh but understand why people hate them so much. I've never heard from anybody that they like them. As a modder working on the game I'm very curious to know what is good about them and what could be fixed.
@@professormallard4348 He probably likes that they're cheesable because he mentioned free runes. I'm no Elden Lord but I know with my current build (dex bleed based) I just run right up to its hind body / tail part and start smacking until it staggers and then move around for the crit hit and back to step one. It doesn't move around/attack a whole lot like the other bosses so it only has 1 or two moves you need to roll or just tank and drink. Works each time.
@@professormallard4348 I personally do not hate them, but I understand that they are so big and move so fast that they can make a bit of conflict with the camera itself. Arenas doesn´t help neither... Although idk why that boss is so hated apart of that, maybe the repetition of the boss itself?
(this will be kinda long sorry) Hype! This may sound absurd but i have legit 37 characters across 4 profiles, i have probably over 2000+ hours. I plan on taking all of them through this using the bew gear as it corresponds with each build etc. I'm gonna start with my first and main character who is an admittedly "over levelled" jack-of-all-trades build with a higher focus on strength and faith, I've always been a "muscle cleric". Weapons of choice being the ultra greatswords of old/collosal swords of new etc. With that out of the way i have some initial thoughts. 1 - New Leveling System - This has been giving me anxiety since it was originally revealed, mostly from not knowing how it worked. Based on this it seems that while the new system is helpful but it also doesn't seem to give *THAT much* and while I'm going to use it you could probably make due without it if you wanted. I also saw an article a few weeks ago talking about how the DLC will be "pretty similar to the second half of the game, but can be made easier with this new system". I guess i was mostly afraid that like a +25 weapon/+10 somber weapon with high stats was just going to tickle everything without the new system, making it completely mandatory if you wanted to kill anything, but thankfully it seems that's not the case and now I'm more relieved. 2 - New Weapons - New weapon classes are cool and I'm hype to try them all. Some things i hope to see. A light greatsword that harkens back to the loyce greatsword. A martial art that harkens back to the bone fist with a slow heavy moveset snd the haduken or parallel as an ash of war. Curious how they will differentiate great katanas from curved greatswords, real life odachi's kinda look like the dismounted already. Perfume bottles and thrown weapons are weird. They feel like they invalidate consumables in a way, look like they'll be nightmare fuel to fight online, and feel... Illogical... The way the weapons just blip back into your hand is kinda silly. New classes are cool but i hope they don't overshadow existing classes. I want to see new colossal swords and what not, fill out the more empty classes like flails and reapers or add new niche filling weapons like a halberd that has a poke light and smash heavy since there isn't one with that moveset combo etc. Cool new stuff for existing classes. New ashs of war too, i want to see some cool new ashs etc. 3 - More Rembrances - I just hope they have more mausoleums... I'm indecisive as hell and want 1 of everything... At least there's new game plus. I avoided NG+ all this time for the sole purpose of playing the eventual DLC in its base state. 4 - Reused Enemy/Bosses - Never been bothered by this. While some say it's lazy game design I say it's logical world building. It makes sense that there's more than one dragon, or night knight, or overly large wolf, or angry tree guardian, etc. I should probably specify that I'm mostly talking about wild life and soldiers. Special named bosses being reused is a different story (cough cough sewer Mohg and Godefroy) outside of that I've never been bothered by the reuse personally and some of those bosses are fun to fight so i extra don't care. Plus there seems to be plenty new as well, let's not focus on the lesser nitpicks. That's all i got for now. Might reply to this if I get more thoughts. Sorry for the length.
Bonus Thoughts: 5 - Spell Stuff - While I'm sure we're getting a lot of new spells/spell equipment I have a few specific things that I'm hopeful for. A new lightning spell that we can throw forward instead of down like most of them. Incant "spell blades" like carian slicer/greatsword but for faith builds. Expanded magic sub-classes. More thorn sorcery, more death sorcery, more destined death incantations, more frozen lightning (more lightning in general). Expand the classes. A catalyst that can cast both sorcery and incantations and/or weapons that can cast spells, as a caveat these tools having a notably lower spell buff stat so you trade damage for versatility and so you don't invalidate the regular catalysts completely ya know. Wonder how busted mages/clerics will be after this drops lol.
I have a hypothesis that the perfumes will be a class of pure elemental damage and each one will scale with different stats like. Fire or spark aromatic being faith. Magic being int. I think he mentioned lightning so that would either be faith or dex? If they have a kind of blood mist that one might be arcane? All up in the air of course but I think and hope that the perfumes class will have "weapons" that cater to multiple builds instead of just arcane. Ya know, like most weapon classes.
@@tristanwelke7827 most weapon classes are build centric though. Katanas dex, curved great swords dex, then you have the quality builds ect ECT. We will see soon what requirements are needed for them. In my mind it made sense for it to be primarily arcane but like you said with different requirements per element would be cool.
What do you mean? Bone dragon is fucking rad. Gimme more, frenzy dragon, black flame dragon, sleep dragon, I freakin' love fighting these normal dragons. Of course, another major dragon like Placidusax or Midir would be awesome too.
the reuse thing is kind of a whatever critique, Bloodborne DLC had 80% of the enemies being the same as basegame and it was still one of the best piece of content BB had to offer.
I think people have gotten way too nitpicking nowadays, especially when something gets as popular as Elden Ring, not Iron Pineapple, I think his observations are fair, but the average hater that gives off the impression to hate "mainstream" things just to set themselves apart of the rest; and it's not like the game is flawless, it actually has a lot of room to improve, but when someone says that "the open world added nothing to the game" or "they are reusing animations from their other games" as it was some sort of unimaginable sin or atrocious design, it is impossible to not think that they are just mindless haters.
"Bloodborne DLC had 80% of the enemies being the same as basegame" That just isn't true at all though is it? It had an absolute tonne of brand new ones. I'm not saying it didn't reuse base game enemies, but 80% is comically hyperbolic and overly defensive of Elden Ring.
@@reggieisnotadog4841 I've played an insane amount of Bloodborne and speedrun it, I know what I'm talking about, it is quite true. I'm stating a fact, genuinely.
New weapon types are always so hype and sick I love fromsoft man, I hope they release elden ring 2 with more of this and a bajillion DLCs i swear to god. I love the fantasy theme the weapons the armors the lore the combat... I'm getting carried away, i just wanted to say souls games are sick as fuck.
I could not be bothered with more Ulcerated Tree Spirits or Dragon bosses. I like fighting them, fighting more of them is exactly what I want. I really don't understand the complain people have with this. 'Oh no, a boss I have already seen before' ok, then don't fight it if you don't want to. If Elden Ring was _only_ each boss used once, it would still be truly fantastic. You just get more fantastic by having repeated bosses. This is basically _first world problems suffering from success_ but for a video game.
Most of them are only true bosses at the start of the game anyway. You never hear people complain about them reusing enemies throughout the game. Why? Because they're fun to fight, but when they use bosses as enemies who are even more fun to fight, somehow it's a problem.
Reading this comment section is showing me how d*mb fromsoft fans are, like are you even thinking about your own comment? Its so sad that a good game could be made so much better and yet because of the fanbases delusions, it never does.
@@friskydisky could you explain more? The game could be made better by... removing repeat bosses? Having 150+ unique bosses in an open world game? I'm not sure what you're even suggesting.
So excited for range weapons!!! I love having the option to stagger random enemies from afar without using FP / consumable count. There’s gotta be some fun interactions coming up
I like it too. If you like those a lot try the Frozen Needle from Kingsrealm Ruins, underground in a chest after fighting a Royal Revenant. It has a ranged strong attack that doesn't consume FP.
Fromsoft made a mistake with the throwing weapons because now ordinary throwing consumables are useless assuming the new throwing weapons can be infused with poison that is
One of the things I like about Iron Pine is how positive he is. Looks at something with a critical mind set and is like this is great I love this however this needs work. Mostly too nice. Man do I want to try those beast claws.
Tbh i don't care about repeated bosses, I don't feel it like laziness but lore implications. I'm sure FromSoftware could design more unique bosses but the reason they put an enemy in several locations have always had a reason lorewise, and we know FromSoftware takes the lore part very seriously
For example, one of the main complaints regarding repeated bosses are the Godskins. People usually speak of it as if they were the exact same Godskins just copy pasted or somehow they "teleported" to the other location. But if you dig a bit into the lore you'll know that the Godskins were a legion, almost like an army, and as such, it would make sense there were a lot of them and they all dress the same way, with skin peeled from gods. It's not the same two dudes just magically reviving, they're different dudes from the same army/legion scattered across the lands between
@@XBaten I feel the same way about things like animals and soldiers. The Lands Between has a population of dragons so it makes complete sense that there's a bunch of dragons, More than 1 dude practiced dragon communion so the abundance of Magma Wyrms is also justified, the Knight's Cavalry were Morgott's personal night reapers patrolling the lands so of course there's more of them, Erdtree Avatars exist to protect the still living minor erdtrees' so again more than one is justified, etc. etc. etc. People need to stop getting all buthurt over what I'm calling "logical reuse". As opposed to "illogical reuse" case in point, I personally draw the line at reused special bosses like sewer Mohg and "Godefroy" those really didn't need to be a thing. Margit/Morgott gets a pass because he fundamentally changes and has a narrative backing for his existence. the other 2 feel so second hand with no changes other than not having a phase 2 and could've been replaced with something more original.
@tristanwelke7827 yep I think sewer Mohg and Godefroy could've had a bit more work into them. Other than that, I feel like people complain because they simply don't know anything about the lore, which I understand, but they should know lore and gameplay are tightly linked in these games
@@XBaten I can sympathize with one anti-reuse opinion and that's the fact that reused bosses tend to have identical movesets with little variance so they get repetitive pretty quickly. So I do get that specific part of the complaint. I think I know a potential solution. Imagine if Fromsoft added a sub system for bosses that I'll call "timing presets". Where the boss has the same moveset but that moveset has between 4-6 different attack timing variants that the game will RNG pick when that boss agros Meaning that despite the boss being repeated like 5 times with the same moveset they all feel different, some being faster others having more wind-up etc. And if that boss kills you the game will pick a different preset next time it agros. This system could maybe even be given to main bosses 🤷 spice up multiple playthroughs? A good example is the Smelter Demon from DS2. The base game Smelter and the DLC Smelter have the exact same moveset but vastly different timings making you have to still relearn the fight. My idea is just that but on a larger scale with an RNG variable. The odds of FROM making a system like this in a future game is pretty unlikely and I imagine the playerbase would find the lack of consistency to be "annoying and bullshit" but hey, it's an idea. Now I want to see a game in the future that does something like this...

-A robed set with the hat that a samurai looking character might wear.
-A barbarian looking armor set which is actually an existing set called "Brave's Set" that was cut from the game but is now in the DLC, which makes sense.
Looks like a lot of new skillceiling stuff that seems fun to use in PVE and giving lots of possibilities in PVP. Good stuff.
it's nuts to me that this guy saying their might be re-used assets has already got people riding the disappointment train.
As long as it is just a handful of em yeah. And thankfully that seems to be the case.

@@professormallard4348 I personally do not hate them, but I understand that they are so big and move so fast that they can make a bit of conflict with the camera itself. Arenas doesn´t help neither... Although idk why that boss is so hated apart of that, maybe the repetition of the boss itself?

I'm replaying Elden Ring for the first time in 2 years. I'm so hyped for this
I knew martial arts was probably coming, but I’m blown away by everything else
(this will be kinda long sorry)
Hype!
1 - New Leveling System -
This has been giving me anxiety since it was originally revealed, mostly from not knowing how it worked.
2 - New Weapons -
New weapon classes are cool and I'm hype to try them all.
3 - More Rembrances -
I just hope they have more mausoleums... I'm indecisive as hell and want 1 of everything... At least there's new game plus. I avoided NG+ all this time for the sole purpose of playing the eventual DLC in its base state.
4 - Reused Enemy/Bosses -
Never been bothered by this.
Bonus Thoughts:
5 - Spell Stuff -
While I'm sure we're getting a lot of new spells/spell equipment I have a few specific things that I'm hopeful for.
How long before Ongbal beats the final boss w/o damage?
lol Ongbal for life.
Those perfume bottles better scale with arcane!
You're the only one who mentioned these reused enemies, thanks !
8 new weapon types my ass, there's only one throwing blade in the dlc lmao
Not sure why people are surprised by reusing enemies. From has done that since ds1 (asylum demon reskinned 2 other times)
the reuse thing is kind of a whatever critique, Bloodborne DLC had 80% of the enemies being the same as basegame and it was still one of the best piece of content BB had to offer.
"Bloodborne DLC had 80% of the enemies being the same as basegame"
That just isn't true at all though is it? It had an absolute tonne of brand new ones. I'm not saying it didn't reuse base game enemies, but 80% is comically hyperbolic and overly defensive of Elden Ring.
@@reggieisnotadog4841 I've played an insane amount of Bloodborne and speedrun it, I know what I'm talking about, it is quite true. I'm stating a fact, genuinely.

@@kodiacstephens8104 exactly.
@@friskydisky We want the game to come out this decade tho
It's not the same two dudes just magically reviving, they're different dudes from the same army/legion scattered across the lands between
@@XBaten
I feel the same way about things like animals and soldiers.

I can sympathize with one anti-reuse opinion and that's the fact that reused bosses tend to have identical movesets with little variance so they get repetitive pretty quickly. So I do get that specific part of the complaint. I think I know a potential solution.
Imagine if Fromsoft added a sub system for bosses that I'll call "timing presets". Where the boss has the same moveset but that moveset has between 4-6 different attack timing variants that the game will RNG pick when that boss agros
Meaning that despite the boss being repeated like 5 times with the same moveset they all feel different, some being faster others having more wind-up etc.
