Good to learn that some parent birds can continue to take care of their chicks even after the chicks have either fallen out of, or abandoned the nest. Most birds species quickly give up on their chicks under similar circumstances.
It never ceases to amaze me how the birds grow by size by about 20-30 times in a matter of 10 days. That is the size of hundreds of worms and insects and spiders put together! And 3 of babies too!
This was GOOD to find!! Three days ago one baby robin fell out of the nest, my adult son said the bird had been hopping across the grass, way to the other side of the yard. We spent a lot of energy telling my grandson he couldn’t touch it. Both parents spent time over there trying to encourage baby-Jackie (my name for the baby). I just tried to not think about it too much. Today my son came in and said Jackie is still on the other side of the yard, parents feeding and attending to him!! He thinks all 3 may be over in the overgrown bit of yard, in and out of the brush-I’m so happy! We’ve had a few days without the 101-104° heat we were forecast to have, so they had a field day yesterday with the worms from a fairly good downpour.
Imagine that as humans. Man and woman had four children, one of those was a stillbirth. One day they left the house unattended and a kidnapper killed two of the three remaining kids. According to estimates, robins have a 50% survival rate to age one year. Some perish on the flight south and in this case 2 out of 3 became food for the baby hawks. I was surprised the robins built a nest where it was so visible. I do my best to provide a safe haven in my yard for the robins. After all, it is our state bird, Wisconsin. The robins I see build a nest in the lilacs which are about 12 feet tall, or the dense pine trees. Hawks and others cannot see the nest from up high, and it is somewhat sheltered from rain and wind. One year there was a robin nest in the lilacs that I could peek in to see the progress. At first there were three eggs. Slowly all three hatched and I got to see them steadily grow bigger. Since there were three other pairs of robins in my 3 acre area they were often chasing each other back and forth which meant they were wasting valuable time and energy instead of caring for the young. I resorted to setting out worms in four different places so there was less chasing and more feeding of the young. All three hatched out and I got to see the first one hopping around in the yard when I was mowing. It was not able to reach the lowest branches and there were cats that wander about. I'm out in the country so cats are allowed to roam. I turned off the mower and stood watch to keep any cats away. I saw one sneaking over so I ran toward the robin clapping hands and shouting. It must been just enough to make it kick in the after burner because this time it managed to make it to the lowest branch of maple tree. I enticed the cat to the back of the house and gave it some sliced turkey to keep it busy. It was only a few more days before the first robin was adult size and hunting for itself. The adults were kept busy helping the other two learn how to find food. They raised a second batch before they left but the nest was up in a maple. I got to see them feeding the last baby and swooping up to build the second nest. I'm not sure why I didn't see more baby robins that season since there were four adult pairs. Maybe they ended up further down the road in a farmers field. It is amazing how fast they grow and become independent.

It is amazing how fast they grow and become independent.
i like how the last one thought "nope, time to grow up and move out" and just left.
thank you sm for the update!:) Nice to know everyone else is all good♡
