@Right To Censor nezhul was the LK. yeah he didnt have a real body but the LK is pretty much the crown + a conscience. after Arthas killed nezhul mind(not confirmed but eluded to) he was left alone. thats why after arthas died they couldnt just freeze the crown or something. they needed a mind , a sentient being -> bolvar.

Ion explained pretty thoroughly she's gotten her powers from "The Jailer" in the Maw of the shadowlands. Right now the cycle is broken and souls are going directly into the Maw instead of being judged and filtered Properly. There by making her more and more powerful.

Not plot armor. Yes she has "purple" power from the Maw increasing her power. But Bolvar was no Arthas. Bolvar only had the Hemlet, which controls undead. He DID NOT HAVE Frostmourne which made Arthas much more powerful. Also, Bolvar never embraced being the Lich King like Arthas did. Arthas wanted to conquer. Lastly, Bolvar did not have as much "rest" time to hulk up as Arthas did. I wish Blizz added these explanations into their rationalization as clearly even avid WoW fans are blind to these facts.

I've not played Warcraft since 2006? I noticed Sylvanas in a cgi picture last week while watching news on youtube. I was intrigued by her facial structure, so I played the video ' Battle for Azeroth', very beautiful craftsmanship. The Banshee form was... cool cgi. It was everyones reaction to it that got me interested. So I studied her storyline, I browsed through it, nothing in depth, just rambled through some past trailers. How she was converted from her true form of an elf into a banshee, cursed. Ok. Cursed. Not killed. Cursed. Look at all the other banshees in Warcraft, floating there mindlessly, awaiting something to trigger them, they not cursed, they died and banshees take their form. Sylvanas has been lying to herself for years, she still sees herself as an elf, she remains an elf, firing arrows, fighting mortally with weapons. So when she destroys that siege tower and comes down it, then dramatically changes into her TRUE form, she does it in front of the people she use to love, and it's to the alliance she Yells.. " For the Horde", that she finally accepts what she is, a banshee, not a living breathing creature, but a being that cannot die, but has a soul, the ability to choose direction in life, unlike the undead, who have no choice. Her tormentor had no idea what he had created when he made her, she will ascend to be the most powerful being because he left her soul in there! She Can Learn!
I hope at the end Sylvanas not only dies but is absolutely humiliated. I won't pay to find out though. If it happens then I will buy the following xpac and resub.

Her power comes from an entity in the Shadowlands called the Jailer as someone below said, it and the shadowlands predate the Titans so she is using PURE death magic and she quite LITERALLY broke death itself with what she did to the crown ALL souls are being sent to a place called the Maw in the shadowlands which is an inescapable place where souls are jailed and with each soul sent there her power becomes greater and the Maw begins to consume the shadowlands.
I haven't gone through BFA, but from what I've read, her new power comes from a deal she's made with something called The Jailer from the Shadowland, which granted her greater powers that have grown even stronger with the link to the Shadowland having been opened.
Yeah, but since sylvanas has been drawing power from the afterlife itself she was pretty much unbeatable. Her deal with the jailer has allowed her to gain incredible dark magic power and augment her death Knight abilities.
Well for her and her undead only waits damnation.... Makes Sense for her to break open the door to the realm of death itself to escape that damnation for her and her people.... Death for all is probably just a pleasant side effect to her.
Her plan is to make us (herself) not able to die, actually. Be free of the prison of Death. For now is a good thing, because all the souls are now going directly to The Maw.

The Jailer in the Maw has become bound to her, empowering her. Normally only the worst souls go to the Maw (we're talking cosmic level assholes, not just bad guys) but recently ALL the souls have been going to the Maw and Sylvanas has been killing looots of people. The more that go to the Maw the stronger the Jailer becomes and the stronger she becomes.
so running theory i have i think part of her new powers come from her pact with helya remember in helheim trapped souls and soul fragments had the same shadow chains trapping them not to mention helya is super connected to the shadowlands, promised to come back, and has already made deals with sylvanas before sylvanas made a deal with her, for power and maybe a connection with this new shadow entity thing in the shadow realms, and after the leegion was defeated, went full monopolizing death. all her choices being about either encouraging war and death, or reacting to her paranoia and trying to take out threats to her controll. her fear of death has lead to a hatred of life, because the living die, but if she can connect life and death, perminantly remove what separates them, then life is no longer a prison, but to empower this plan, she needed to send as many souls to the shadowlands as possible because aparantly all the souls sent there durring BFA, didnt go to one of the 4 realms of the shadowrealm, they went to a 5th place, where the tower is apparently. so those souls are being used for something. so BFA was all about setting up for this plan. but she had to skip ahead to this part after her fight with sour-fang, since she F*d up by openly insulting the horde and it's honor infront of the horde, both sides of it.
According to Ion, Sylvanas gets her power from the dead, and by all the deaths in the war, Sylvanas grew stronger and stronger, and now its overflowing the shadowlands. Thats some kind of pact she has with the "Jailer of the danmed". Well, lets see what else she has with him and Helya.

Karl Strud this trailer doesn’t explain anything man . People can speculate all they want but there’s no proof that indicates she’s working with someone in the shadowlands . For all we know it’s just a big bad she met there and she set him free and now he does her bidding .
She’s either a Mary Sue or she was too dumb to use her powers for this long... I mean at least she’s a sexy Mary Sue and she’s upfront about not giving a rats arse about any living creature on Azeroth. Point to where the Ranger General has telekinesis.... She sure didn’t have those powers before she Swanton off ice crown the first time around. Oh and for “read up on it”.. “ A character may be judged Mary Sue if she is competent in too many areas” Epic level Ranger General/Necromancer/Mage with legendary action: Uncanny Dodge. Honestly this should show how much she hated the Horde. She was the Horde’s best weapon on the table and instead of taking care of the Alliance for good, she maneuvered both sides to kill as much of each other as possible. With this power who could actually stand against her much less beat her?
so it was kind of explained that as the maw gets more powerful, so does the jailer and so does sylvanas. not in depth too much but i imagine we will learn.
never in their story they just one shotted everyone though. sylvanas was a good character but they just ruined her. you can't feel sympathy or interest for her. she can't even compare to arthas or illidan in my opinion.
so what i think i is happening is that Sylvanas has been providing souls to ''The Jailor''. so for example Teldrassil. where she makes sure there is enough death. and in return she recieves these extreme powerups
Also, the end of Saurfang's Mak'Gora is supposed to be an indicator to us (in game btw) that Sylvanas suddenly has a bunch of new powers, which she obviously did NOT have during WotLK when she was running from Arthas in the Halls of Reflection. So no, she's not a Mary Sue, the intrigue behind her power gains are clearly intentional. Yeah they're kinda frustrating but that doesn't make them inconsistent. Also we are going to learn in-game that she's being empowered by a being in the Shadowlands called the Jailor. So, yeah, it's explained and makes sense, no matter how much anyone (me included) doesn't particularly like it.
Bolvar, as the Lich King, had incredible power and strength... But there are a few problems with it that let Sylvanas pretty easily take him down. 1. No frostmourne, as mentioned. That is a big factor. 2. Arthas regularly waged war on the living for a while before returning to Icecrown and, after that, regularly honed and increased his power by basically making Vrykul/Undead/Valkyr farms to give him more souls and more soldiers. Bolvar sat on that throne and never did anything with his power. Even in legion he was more a strategic individual then anything else. He was always getting stronger. 3. Bolvar's greatest power was the command of the Undead, which he could have absolutely used to wipe the floor with Sylvanas. Problem is, Sylvanas is a Ranger, which is basically a rogue mixed with a hunter, and more over she has her new powers of darkness which absolutely lend themselves to hiding because that's her spec. Sneaking past the mindless undead would have been easy for her. And even assuming Bolvar still had Death Knights, Val'kyr and Vrykul working for him (no reason to assume he does) she could have snucked past them too. So without forewarning of her coming he had only enough time to gather the best in the citadel itself which, in Legion, we saw was pretty defunct/full of random undead. Bolvar was a jailer holding the undead back, not a true King ready for war at any given time. His greatest power, the command of the scourge, Sylvanas circumspect ed by sneaking around
In short: Sylvanas has no more valkyrs, she goes to shadowlands where there is life/death angels and shit, gets immortality juice and then some bullshit redemption arc (kinda like they did for kerrigan in sc2) for her right at the end like "ah ha you guys it was all a prank I stoped death for everyone I'm a good guy".
From what some other people mentioned, there's some godly OP dude in the Shadowlands who is the ruler of the prisonworld/shadowlands... The Jailer? So I'm guessing she probably got those powers from 'It' lol. I like Sylvanas too lmao. I mean, I don't care what people say... Ripping a hole in the sky is pretty damn badass rofl. The Cinematic was amazing too. Like always.

It's cool how sylvanas has been drawing power from the maw to strengthen her death Knight powers. She made a deal with the jailer for her immense power.
I knew she wasn't going Lich Queen. Why go something that she hated so much and turned her into what she is? As for the powers, the smoke is part of her own Banshee powers but the purple I believe comes from the Jailer in the Maw. I think ALL of this is going to come down to the fact of what she saw when she was falling from Icecrown. I hope Blizz shows us that.

i come from the future to tell you that silvanas powers came from the jailer, the most important and cuning character in all WoW.

sylvanas made a deal with her, for power and maybe a connection with this new shadow entity thing in the shadow realms, and after the leegion was defeated, went full monopolizing death. all her choices being about either encouraging war and death, or reacting to her paranoia and trying to take out threats to her controll. her fear of death has lead to a hatred of life, because the living die, but if she can connect life and death, perminantly remove what separates them, then life is no longer a prison, but to empower this plan, she needed to send as many souls to the shadowlands as possible because aparantly all the souls sent there durring BFA, didnt go to one of the 4 realms of the shadowrealm, they went to a 5th place, where the tower is apparently.
so those souls are being used for something.
so BFA was all about setting up for this plan. but she had to skip ahead to this part after her fight with sour-fang, since she F*d up by openly insulting the horde and it's honor infront of the horde, both sides of it.

According to Ion, Sylvanas gets her power from the dead, and by all the deaths in the war, Sylvanas grew stronger and stronger, and now its overflowing the shadowlands. Thats some kind of pact she has with the "Jailer of the danmed". Well, lets see what else she has with him and Helya.

Honestly this should show how much she hated the Horde. She was the Horde’s best weapon on the table and instead of taking care of the Alliance for good, she maneuvered both sides to kill as much of each other as possible.
With this power who could actually stand against her much less beat her?
so it was kind of explained that as the maw gets more powerful, so does the jailer and so does sylvanas. not in depth too much but i imagine we will learn.
Sylvanas is an interesting character like Arthas or Illidan. And whatever she has become she’s still an interesting character.
never in their story they just one shotted everyone though. sylvanas was a good character but they just ruined her. you can't feel sympathy or interest for her. she can't even compare to arthas or illidan in my opinion.
so what i think i is happening is that Sylvanas has been providing souls to ''The Jailor''. so for example Teldrassil. where she makes sure there is enough death. and in return she recieves these extreme powerups
Also, the end of Saurfang's Mak'Gora is supposed to be an indicator to us (in game btw) that Sylvanas suddenly has a bunch of new powers, which she obviously did NOT have during WotLK when she was running from Arthas in the Halls of Reflection. So no, she's not a Mary Sue, the intrigue behind her power gains are clearly intentional. Yeah they're kinda frustrating but that doesn't make them inconsistent. Also we are going to learn in-game that she's being empowered by a being in the Shadowlands called the Jailor. So, yeah, it's explained and makes sense, no matter how much anyone (me included) doesn't particularly like it.

Bolvar, as the Lich King, had incredible power and strength... But there are a few problems with it that let Sylvanas pretty easily take him down.
1. No frostmourne, as mentioned. That is a big factor.
2. Arthas regularly waged war on the living for a while before returning to Icecrown and, after that, regularly honed and increased his power by basically making Vrykul/Undead/Valkyr farms to give him more souls and more soldiers. Bolvar sat on that throne and never did anything with his power. Even in legion he was more a strategic individual then anything else. He was always getting stronger.
3. Bolvar's greatest power was the command of the Undead, which he could have absolutely used to wipe the floor with Sylvanas. Problem is, Sylvanas is a Ranger, which is basically a rogue mixed with a hunter, and more over she has her new powers of darkness which absolutely lend themselves to hiding because that's her spec. Sneaking past the mindless undead would have been easy for her. And even assuming Bolvar still had Death Knights, Val'kyr and Vrykul working for him (no reason to assume he does) she could have snucked past them too. So without forewarning of her coming he had only enough time to gather the best in the citadel itself which, in Legion, we saw was pretty defunct/full of random undead. Bolvar was a jailer holding the undead back, not a true King ready for war at any given time. His greatest power, the command of the scourge, Sylvanas circumspect ed by sneaking around
In short: Sylvanas has no more valkyrs, she goes to shadowlands where there is life/death angels and shit, gets immortality juice and then some bullshit redemption arc (kinda like they did for kerrigan in sc2) for her right at the end like "ah ha you guys it was all a prank I stoped death for everyone I'm a good guy".

From what some other people mentioned, there's some godly OP dude in the Shadowlands who is the ruler of the prisonworld/shadowlands... The Jailer? So I'm guessing she probably got those powers from 'It' lol. I like Sylvanas too lmao. I mean, I don't care what people say... Ripping a hole in the sky is pretty damn badass rofl. The Cinematic was amazing too. Like always.

I knew she wasn't going Lich Queen. Why go something that she hated so much and turned her into what she is? As for the powers, the smoke is part of her own Banshee powers but the purple I believe comes from the Jailer in the Maw. I think ALL of this is going to come down to the fact of what she saw when she was falling from Icecrown. I hope Blizz shows us that.
