Your timeline is the only thing that saves my understanding of the MCU, there's so much being released lately that it's difficult to understand the chronology and those responsible don't seem to be able to do the job or don't seem to care, I'm glad there are people like you, true fans who are dedicated to cleaning up all this mess. Thank you for that.
Hey Dakota I know you’ve probably read it a few times by now, but I really hope you keep your own version of the mcu- Timeline. I totally understand if you’re tired of making an effort, to clean up someone’s else’s mess but that’s the exact reason I respected your work from the very first Video I saw of you. The amount of love and dedication you’ve been putting in over the last years is definitely worth keeping. I also think that the clear-cut logic we as fans and especially you use, is absolutely more fitting than the opinion of someone that doesn’t care as much about it, as we do. For them it’s probably just a job for us its actual passion. However, I respect your choice if u want to spend your energy on other things.
PLEASE DON'T CHANGE YOUR PLACEMENTS BECAUSE OF WHAT SOME STUPID PEOPLE WHO DON'T LOVE TIMELINES SAID!!!!!!!!! YOUR EFFORTS ARE A LABOR OF LOVE AND YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON SOMETHING YOU LOVE. Please keep your placements. YOUR placements are the correct ones, no matter what these non-caring people say. Your MCU timeline graphic is exactly that, YOURS! Keep it yours by keep your correct placements. Many will be severely disappointed on you if you submit to the wrongful "official timeline." The fans are the ones who enjoy and love your work, marvel just gives us the movies. They can't keep retconning stuff and saying what is when it clearly isn't. All of your present subscribers and future subscribers implore you: don't EVER change your placements because of a stupid book full of mistakes. Keep your placements which are the correct ones and backed by evidence. I love you and your work. it's beautiful.
Regarding the “6 months later” in Iron Man 2: It’s worth noting that this book is written from the perspective of a TVA agent, so *non-diagetic* info is omitted! This is clever because titles cards are things that only we, as audience, see. In-universe they don’t exist so they don’t have to reference them.
Hi Dakota, just a quick message to say that your work is colossal, I've been following your content for 1 year now and I'm really admiring what you've built over the years I obviously understand and respect why you'd want to change your timeline following the "official" one, but I hope you'll continue with the one you've been building all this time All the best 🙏
I honestly hope you keep your own timeline, the official one doesn't really need to be followed to a tee. We'll always know that fans like yourself will always know what they're talking about over anything official. I hope you don't feel super bad about it or anything. The official timelines that they've made in the past have always been incorrect in many ways, and personally I've never followed any of them to begin with.
I’ve noticed a few people mention this, but I definitely agree that, although it’s hard to keep having the timeline be messed up by Marvel and you have to clean up their mess. Your version will always be superior and what a lot of consider as the more accurate timeline. The work you’ve put in is outstanding and we all thank you for it. Please don’t add this “official” timeline to your work, you’re doing amazing!
Just finished to whole video, I agree that the people who wrote the book is not the right person for the job. It's like they did those cause they got paid for it, and we have guys like you who could do it better simply cause of love to the MCU
I don’t think they aren’t fans, cause it’s obvious they are. They just weren’t familiar with mapping this timeline and think they needed someone on their team to help them out.
Thanks for the video and your honesty. I have a few comments: 1. The 6 months later announcement in Iron Man 2 has never been a problem with me because it works regardless. It is either 6 months after Tony's speech (original intention ) but it can also be 6 months after Vanko smile like a maniac because he has finally a working arc reactor ( current canon retcon). 2. I hate the 2010 placement of Fury's big week. Sure 2011 means Vanko had to work 3 years to make his reactor and not 2 like the book suggest, but honestly it is believable with him doing it with very little. 2010 makes all the time clues in the first avenger movie wrong, and I don't see the value in doing that. 3. I understand why you will not challenge the book and make your timeline work with it but hopefully you will reconsider. If even you follow along, than the good fight of a better MCU continuity and D+ timeline is already lost. You offer a well researched alternative and you are always open to adjust base on new info, retcon or content. That being said, I will respect your choice either way.
Excellent comment. I appreciate it tremendously. I think I will reconsider scrapping my timeline for this, and just continue doing what I’m doing now: providing a solid alternative.
Everyone's already said it, but please, PLEASE don't change your timeline to suit this new book. When placing a show like Moon Knight, it is so, SO much more interesting and thoughtful to the showmakers to say "We observed the changes in the phases of the moon to determine that it must take place in this exact week in the future" rather than "some guy in a book with dozens of inconsistencies and mistakes said it happens around here".
Dakota, I was really looking forward to your review, and it did not disappoint! I hope maybe the writers or the executives in charge of the book or whoever gets to watch this and think again. If corrections were made before and with the release of the book, they surely can be made after, right? I don't really know why I've hyperfixated on the MCU timeline for so long, but still, it must be less time than what you've been dedicating it. And I truly admire that! So, that's why I look up to you and expected you to be as disappointed as I am with the timeline this book presents. To not make this comment way too long, I will say that I can understand why they went with seasons (although the book would've benefitted from month placements), I can understand not including Marvel TV, I can understand lumping together several titles, I can get behind the placements for Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Ant-Man, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, She-Hulk, even Eternals, and I'm willing to adjust my timeline to fit those, but Iron Man 3 and Thor: Love and Thunder just don't make any sense at all in December 2013 and October 2025 🤦♂️ and I will chose to ignore those!
This is WONDERFULLY done. I feel your pain. Not all of it, for I don't had "time" to spend on "fighting city hall", but props to you and your valiant struggle. I love how you kept it serious and thoughtful, instead of going FULL rant. A lesser person would have just gone full rant. I also, am holding out hope...that some day in the future, they will come to their senses and just HIRE you for the job. You are definitely passionate for this type of material...and having someone (like yourself) involved in the beginning...would then provide a better after action reporting when things shuffle because of REAL world problems and the shuffling of shows and release dates. Thank you, again...for all the hard work that went into this video and ultimately your MCUTimeline, which to me and my family IS the canonical timeline for the MCU, book and Disney+ timelines be damned. This was done with love and dedication...and the world is a better place, because people like you care about the minutia that is otherwise overlooks by the peopl making these films and TV series. As always, have a wonderful day...and keep up the fight (for us and for the truth of correct placement) for the MCU that we all love.
I’m so happy that you appreciate the video. I knew you would appreciate a good review, but I’m always glad to see your comments. I hope to work in this field in a bigger capacity in the future. I just wish this book hadn’t come out before then ugh 😩 I didn’t want to fully hate on the book. It’s not all basic and there’s quite a bit of good in it. But alas. Had to vent near the end.
@@Geekritique - a future employer will see the dedication and your ability to roll with the punches. As an outsider, it seems a "no brainer" to want a fan to do this type of job. That is why Apple (an a LOT of tech companies) hire former hackers, to beef up their security systems. These are dedicated people with a single purpose. I don't understand why Marvel doesn't already employ at least one, if not a team of people to do this type of stuff. To me, it just doesn't make sense. I do hope that this will translate to a great job, some day. When that happens, don't forget us. Okay?
Please don’t quit your timeline. All the people who REALLY care about the timeline look to you. This corporate book means so much less than your carefully woven timeline. Please don’t turn your timeline into the less accurate “official MCU timeline” because the Geekritique MCU timeline is better, and more important to us geeks.
so the person they hired isnt in charge of the disney+ timeline placement, but they did help write this book based on the disney+ timeline i love your videos bc you give full depth evidence on your placements and make sure each timeline placement fits in a very pleasing order to watch. i really wish they wouldve just hired you for the position bc the person they have now is SEVERLY slacking
That’s correct, DK Books just hired some writers to pen a book. And they used what they assumed was the official timeline. I wish they had hired me as well 😔
Dakota, you are the one that has the official MCU Timeline in your hands. As you mentioned, the people in charge of that book did not care enough for the chronology of the movies as much as you do. Regardless of what the book says, I will still looking forward to your timeline reviews, because your timeline placement is precise and that book is full of tons of mistakes to even be considered “official” or “correct”. They should have done something good or not doing anything at all, so to this date, you still being the one having everything 100% right. Looking forward to your Loki season 2 video!!!
Marvel Television should’ve been on here, they missed like half the MCU, I was looking for Kang in the index, and then I realised that it was only till Phase Four.
@@Geekritique There are also tons of comics that are officially MCU canon, we should have been in the book according to it’s marketing of everything in the MVU even if it was only mentioned.
@@GeekritiqueYour timeline is great. For your next timeline can you put the Marvel TV stuff one the same line as Marvel Studio’s stuff for all the TV fans.
Your timeline we see in your videos is the only version of the timeline that makes absolute sense. I really hope you re-cover The Marvels and do Deadpool & Wolverine soon!!
Dakota, I really love your work, and I would love to keep seeing you fight against what this book displays as the timeline. Your effort over the years does not go unnoticed, we love it! Also, if I'm ever working on a fictional Universe, I'll make sure to make such a coherrent timeline that it's impossible to mess it up
I don’t think you should update it I want you to keep it as it is idc what marvel think or tell me what is and isn’t it should be up to the fans to decide because they clearly don’t give a crap about the timeline or us as fans it’s a shambles
i love ur videos of the mcu timeline and i think imo that if u find proof on where stuff is located that contradicts the "offical" timeline then do it bc u care more then the people who made the book and from everything i've seen in ur videos it makes more sense especially when u red it and there r major plot holes in the timeline bc ever since i found ur videos on 7.0 timeline that is how i've been watching the order of events while i'm watching the mcu to this date but whatever u decide to do will still support on ur placement
I've mentioned this on your Moon Knight timeline video, but the only "discrepancy" you had with the book that I think was on the money is Moon Knight. Using the same days you laid out in your video, but shifting the show to begin on April 24th and going into May, you get the exact same results when following the moon phases. That said, I also took no stock in the statements made about a cut reference to Gorr originally being in the show. With it being cut, it's now inconsequential and does not require Moon Knight to orbit Thor: Love & Thunder's events, which I 100% agree should take place the year prior. That all said, I'm not letting the book stop me from following the timeline I, too, have put so much care and research into, and I'm not even monetized. LOL! But, seriously- - It's clear that this was just an attempt to shut us up, but it's not only inconsistent within its own context, but its presentation is also inconsistent. Feige says in the forward that the book contains "everything" while Miss Minutes turns around and says it doesn't. You get to the Werewolf by Night entry and she mentions that, because it's an event involving magic, that the placement might shift, so even though it's a "Official Timeline" they kill their credibility with the wishy-washiness. Like you said, it's like they're not willing to commit to placements, sometimes. And, of course, this probably won't be their only timeline book and, like you said, hopefully they'll go back and fix some stuff in new editions... But, I think it's still worth keeping your timeline and piecing the MCU together despite this book existing. People are gonna argue the timeline either way, but at least you built yours out of love and care. This thing just reads like a justification for why Disney shouldn't pay someone to fix the timeline on their streaming service.
I wish that this book had included content from Marvel TV as well as Marvel Studios. Seeing projects like Daredevil, Agent Carter, and Agents of SHIELD alongside the MCU films and “shows” would have been immensely gratifying. I also wish that this book included sections on “branched timelines” - aka sections on non-MCU multiverse films and shows. Imagine if there was a spread after Endgame that showed the branched timelines seen in Loki that included and dated every non-MCU project - Spider-Man, X-Men, cartoons/animated series, and even obscure ones like Man-Thing or Dr. Strange 1979.
I actually don't really care about canon if it's gonna be that problematic, and choose to consume the products according to headcanon. That being said, you are my absolute hero. Really. As a person with some OCD behaviors, I feel the need for things to make sense in order to enjoy them, and your timeline makes the most sense of any others. I'm actually in the middle of my yearly MCU marathon, and since I discovered your channel, there's no other way to do it if it's not according to your timeline. I know it feels frustrating knowing they don't care enough, but you do. Please don't change your timeline, and keep up the excellent work for us fans that care for this stories. (Sorry if my English isn't the best :p)
Your English is as good or better than some English speakers I know, don’t beat yourself up. Thanks for the comment. I don’t have any diagnosed OCD, but I’ve definitely got issues haha, but they’ve manifested in my hobby here on UA-cam. Glad you enjoy the videos, and I can’t wait to make more.
Hey man i know you want to stick to this book’s timeline for future videos because it is canon. But to me and many others your timeline is the canon one. Please stick to your timeline because we need to keep dedication to what the MCU Timeline is and not what they want it to be.
Well yes and no. This forward was written months before the Daredevil: Born Again rewrite. As has been reported, the decision to make the Daredevil show true canon moving forward was only agreed upon a few weeks ago. So I was correct when I put out the video. I’m glad that they reversed their decision though.
Wonderful video! Banger after banger with you! I understand the mentality of "why should I keep trying to help if they're just gonna keep making it difficult?" but please bear in mind that your uphill battle is not for nothing. I, and many of my friends, ignore the Disney+ timeline and even the book and say that your timeline is the canon timeline. It's full of thought, love and understanding that many studios don't consider when making films and it would be a shame to see such a hardcore fan like yourself bend to the brain dead mouse company. We support any decision you make but you've already made some strong arguments against what the book presents. If you feel comfortable shuffling some things around, go for it, I love rearranging and sorting my MCU Blu Ray colllection but don't lose sight of this wonderful project you've worked so hard to make.
Super glad you enjoyed the video. And to hear that you and others consider my timeline the closest to a coherent timeline. You’re right, the fight isn’t worthless. I’m gonna keep pushing forward.
Great breakdown, shame they’ve been so inconsistent but if they clearly don’t care enough to keep track of events the way they are presented you shouldn’t change your timeline and keep it to reflect a more accurate course of events. Appreciate all the work you do keep it up!
For me i have no issues with Iron Man 3 in December 2013, as that is actually where i placed it sometimes during some MCU timeline order rewatches i did and for those fans that consider the Marvel TV stuff as canon, moving Iron Man 3 by a year actually benefits them, cause one of the problems that came from the Netflixverse and Runaways is that they made comments about Obama being president, which unless you say Obama served his term alot earlier, wouldn't work as Ellis would have been the President during Obama's term, but if one places IM3 in 2013 that solves it as now Obama would have served his first term from 2009-2012 and Ellis would've won in 2012 elections. Only issues (other than the 1999 + 13 years later thing) that come with that are some comments from Killian that imply Ellis was the guy in charge for a little while, but one can find ways to work that around.
Please keep your timeline placements for future videos and your timeline graphic! The placements make so much more sense overall. I’d recommend making an additional amended version of the timeline graphic with the official canon timeline for people who want to view it that way, but the whole point of using your timeline is to have something better and different than just looking at Disney+, so please keep your existing timeline intact!
Please don’t give up on your own timeline. Ever since I started watching your videos, I’ve considered your timeline as the true timeline. Everything you say makes sense and the evidence you give support your conclusion. What evidence does Disney have in their timeline? Not nearly as much or as strong as yours. Don’t give up just because a committee put a few titles in order to get a paycheck. Stay strong 💪! Your work is a labor of love and for all it’s worth, you’re the only real reason I care for the mcu at this point anymore. Your timeline > Disney’s timeline
Please don't change your MCU Timeline to fit their hot mess. Your MCU Timeline IS THE MCU Timeline because of pure logic, and what the filmmakers themselves displayed on screen, plus the inclusion of all TV series, etc. Do not succumb to their drivel.
Dakota, do not give up on your chronology for the mcu. It is much better than the official timeline. You've spent so long with each added entry trying to discern when it takes place. Changing your timeline now would be giving in. Maybe your timeline is correct and disney plus is correct through some Kang meddling, thats always what I've thought. That the order you have is the intended way, but by manufacturing a sacred timeline, certain events got flipped around. And through this, the TVA is forcing it to work out because somehow this order of events puts away the kang variants from coming to be. Do not give in and change the timeline, maybe someday yours will truly reign supreme or maybe marvel will update it once again
The Fury’s Big Week section bothered me the most because it has placements that are just impossible. It has the end scene of Iron Man 2 placed full pages before The Incredible Hulk’s Culver University battle, despite footage from that battle clearly seen on a screen when Tony meets with Fury
I'm not surprised they didn't include the Marvel Television properties. Marvel Studios has never really acknowledged the shows and also had no role in the marketing of those shows, either, meaning their status as MCU content was unofficial. That said, the finale of Loki season 2 could easily place those shows in a branch timeline, like 919 (upside down 616, depending on how you write your ones). And with the clear connection between the MCU and the various Sony Spider-Man properties, I think Kevin is more than willing to include other Marvel properties as well, which could be included in a Marvel Cinematic Multiverse timeline book after the Multiverse Saga has concluded. There are so many legacy films, shows, and characters that can be utilized in the future, and all of them can be designated to their own universe, much like the CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event did for many DC movies and shows NOT set within the Arrowverse. So it's necessarily that the Marvel Television shows aren't canon, but that they're simply irrelevant to the MCU, because the MCU is, so far, strictly related to events on the Sacred Timeline, characters from the Sacred Timeline, or Variants and events that spun off from the Sacred Timeline.
It wasn't unofficial. Both Kevin Feige & Bob Iger had referred to those shows as part of the MCU before (Feige once even directly stated that the Defenders Saga was set in the same continuity as the movies), & there are easter eggs referring to AoS, Agent Carter, & Daredevil in a few MCU properties. If the foreword of this book is to be taken as a statement to the contrary, then it is a _retcon_ of the previous status quo, not the _first_ word on the subject.
@@CaptHayfever I've never seen anything from Feige indicating the Marvel Television shows were in the same continuity with the films. What I HAVE seen, is constant disregard and ignorance for the events that happen within the shows. The films HAVE left a little wiggle room for the Marvel Television stuff to fit right in, but I just feel that most of it would work better as part of a different universe within the multiverse, rather than squeezed into a universe that barely acknowledges the shows, if at all. Also, what easter eggs are there to Agent Carter, AoS, and Daredevil?
Hi Dakota! I just want to tell you that I don´t think that you need to adjust your timeline to the MCU book. I think that a lot of people have you as THE confident source to try to give this universe (and lately multiverse) a sense of continuity. I really see how passionate you are with this timeline for the past years and is infuriating seeing that they didn´t put the enough effort to make a good book. Your work is truly awesome (and also the one that the fans on the Wiki page do) 'cause it really demostrates how you care about all this stuff. I know that is a fight that sometimes seems pointless but we really see the love, work and effort you put into these videos and I really hope that you can keep working on your own timeline that, I personally, think is the best! Maybe you can do a version of the book timeline for your patreon tho (?
Kinda like how labeling the "Sacred Timeline" as "616" has retroactively made over a decade's worth of discourse comparing the MCU to the main comics timeline (often abbreviated to "616") more ambiguous & confusing to anyone reading those articles/conversations in the future.
One i dont like about MCU timeline is the avengers gets together for a little time only 3 years !! I would like 4 or 5 years would be cooler And post endgame we dont have the Avengers
As a Marvel Television die-hard, my favorite thing about this book (not) is how Feige doubles down in the foreword that anything not listed in the book takes place in the larger Multiverse. But then the actual book itself through Miss Minutes straight up says NOT EVERY PIECE OF CANON IS LISTED IN THE BOOK. Like, stop yanking our chains around. 🙄
The way I interpret that, considering this is Miss Minutes discussing events from a TVA perspective, is that there are events that she knows about in the the future that haven’t been unveiled in the book (Phase 5 & beyond).
@@Geekritique that’s a fair enough point. But because of the fact that there are canon entries from before Phase 5 that we know are missing from the book (Thor’s Hammer, WHIH Newsfront, Daily Bugle, Agent Carter the series, Daredevil the series), it’s a nebulous stance for Miss Minutes to take. And it’s unfair to fans of those series to not take a firm stance. Just put all those shows in a branch if it’s necessary. 🤦🏽♂️
I feel you on the the book and the changes it makes to everything post Endgame, but you know what, I don't care what the book says. It doesn't make sense. I built my guide for my father because he has ADHD and can't make sense of going from Iron Man 2 to Avengers 1 to Captain America 2 to Guardians 1 to Avengers 2 etc. And it took me a long time to rationalize how I wanted to build it post Endgame so that it would make sense to him. The book made things worse and I ejected it from my own discussion of how it all goes together. You should do the same. BUT if you insist on yours becoming theirs, then may I make a suggestion that you transition from making a timeline guide and instead piece together a proper 'viewing guide' so that people coming into the franchise now, can watch the franchise in a way that makes things logical and understandable from point to point to point. That's how mine is. Phase 4 and 5 is nowhere near timeline accurate for me because it doesn't even make sense to watch those phases that way.
Hopefully you don't ditch the idea of making better sense of the timeline. I've been using your videos as a watch guide for a while now. I really appreciate it.
The biggest issue Is when movies get re shot or re written or re edited... dates get pushed and moved around lol. With Phase 4 having movies and shows (18 projects in 2 years) things get over looked or not communicated... Marvel needs to go to 4 or 5 projects tops per year. Maybe 3 movies 2 shows. Possibly a Holliday special, but Phase 4 being 18 projects in 2 years is crazy
One of the reasons why I loved the Star Wars book so much was because of how much it included and it was fun seeing all the various material together side by side. I do think it was a missed opportunity to not include the marvel television shows in the book for that same reason. Being able to see shows like Shield or Daredevil next to the movies would have made for a better and more interesting book I think
You ARE the canon timeline to us. Given that im a month late to this, im sure youve heard it thousands of times, but your work has genuinely been a huge help for me. Not in the sense of chronology, although that does help, but mentally. In the time since i first discovered your channel, ive been cataloging my own interpretation of the timeline, and comparing it with yours. This provided a major sense of security and consistency for me when i had nobody to talk to. Im not entirely sure it makes sense, but ive always enjoyed sorting things into an order as a form of escapism, and this timeline has always been the greatest one for me even before infinity war came out. Please keep doing what youre doing. It helps people more than you could imagine 💙
Well it’s what marvel studios considers correct so there’s really nothing we can do about it but you really should keep your own timeline going regardless
Man, im excited for the monsterverse timeline, since I wanna know whats canon or not, since im a big fan and wanna know more of the universe and more with the new empire trailer
Being that there will be a long break of new releases between Echo and Deadpool, will you be doing another full timeline video including multiverse titles?
Iron Man 2- "Six months later" refers to Vanko's flashback, and he was watching footage that might have been pre-recorded. Or as another commenter stated, six months after however much time it took Vanko to build his suit. Thor Love and Thunder- Korg is telling the story in October, that's why it's placed there and not in spring (and why the movie was so bad) But yeah, they don't care. In general there are so many contradictions that they actually couldn't make a 100% accurate timeline, though (and it's probably my own cynicism saying this, seeing the state of Marvel post-Endgame, but maybe not) half the time they probably just flipped a coin. You obviously care more than Marvel does though, so while it is discouraging to see how little effort they put in, don't let that keep you from building your own timeline. There's a reason fanfiction is a thing, after all!
Well, the 6 months line pertaining to Vanko is an idea I postulated years back, but I don’t think it works with Justin Hammer’s comments on the time period. As for the Korg thing, that’s never been confirmed. Just a fan theory. You’re def right about fan fiction though. I’m gonna start treating my work as more in line with fan fiction.
Hey Dakota. Just wanted to say as a fellow long time follower of the MCU timeline that I feel your pain. Ive enjoyed your videos for a long time now and would be saddened to either see you stop making MCU content or change any of your dates on the timeline just because of a poorly written book. Keep up the good work. BTW no agents of shield or netflix in this book still hurts!!!
I can relate on not wanting to "fight" the Official Timeline in the future and move on. I mean, it doesn't make sense but it's official. For this reason, I'll try to stay more rational and exclude emotional considerations. To me, the point is: if the official timeline wants to be "official", at least it has to be internally consistent (which it isn't, you provided a lot of cases) and conclusive (Shang-Chi proves this is not the case). So, I accept this book as "MCU Official Timeline, Ver. 1" that clearly has to be fixed and updated, if Marvel cares. Disney+ placements were the most "word of god" things we had and then this book disproved it. Who knows what the next update will look like, maybe it will resemble more like your timeline. What I'm trying to say is that you can't deem your work useless in front of something that's clearly not definitive. So I get the frustration and the feeling of wasting your time, but if you want to keep it rational (and just a bit emotional), this is not the endgame 😉
Thanks for the comment. I definitely feel better now that the video is out in the world and I got what I had to say off my chest. Thinking about this as a v1 timeline is a nice thought. Thanks for mentioning the Shang-Chi situation, that’s proof to me that the Disney+ timeline is very moldable.
Oh boy. Great review Dakota. Some placements are truly horrific, like Iron Man 3, Eternals, and Love and Thunder. I have no problem with Phase 1, She-Hulk's origin, Moon Knight, and wouldja look at that? Werewolf By Night is on Halloween, like I originally proposed. Not gloating about this though, keep analysing future MCU projects for placements, until hopefully a vol. 2 comes out and rectifies mistakes. Miss Minutes not popping up for some errors is annoying, and she doesn't even fix Vulture saying "8 years", just saying that a TVA analyst maybe "misplaced" a file. Unfortunately, the Wiki (I'm part of the Timeline Team) have changed their placements...Iron Man 3 in 2013, Eternals in 2024, LaT in 2025, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale after FFH, there's no sense to disregard the book and Disney+ now. Sad.
I didn’t realize you were part of the timeline team, very cool. I’ll say that I understand why the Timeline Team is choosing to cede to the book, and I’m not sure if I’ll do the same.
My sympathies dude. I’m not as passionate about timeline placement but I definitely get this way whenever newer writers and directors mischaracterize characters or approach them with the wrong mindset. I’ve been over analyzing every second of this character’s screen appearances for over a decade now and have read and written in depth analysis of their behavior based on quotes from the original writers/director/actor, I do in fact know more than you. This is just a job for some of them. They should hire obsessive fans to get their facts straight.
How I watch Phase 4/5 ? WandaVision Falcon & Winter Soldier Shang Chi Eternals Thor Moonknight Loki Season 1 Ant-Man 3 Loki Season 2 What if Season 1 & 2 Spider-Man 2 & 3 Doctor Strange 2 Hawkeye Guardians of the Galaxy Special & 3 Black Panther 2 She-Hulk Ms Marvel Secret Invasion The MarvelS
The Marvels is set after the Secret Invasion & Ms. Marvel finales. Echo directly pick up after Hawkeye in the January 2025 MCU timeline before Moon Knight. Captain America 4 would start the 2027 MCU timeline. Fantastic Four & Deadpool 3 might be set in alternate MCU timelines. Blade would be set in the 2023 MCU timeline before the events to the post credit scene in Eternals. Agatha would be in the 2024 MCU timeline, Ironheart would be in the 2028 MCU timeline. Season 1 to Daredevil: Born Again would be after Echo & before She-Hulk with Season 2 sometime in 2026 or 2027. Vision Quest would take place sometime after Agatha in 2025. Thunderbolts would be in the 2027 MCU timeline. Avengers 5/6 would be set from late-2027 to early-2030. Nova would be set in the 2019 MCU timeline which would take place 1 year after the end of Infinity War, the mid-credit scene of Captain Marvel & the start of Avengers: Endgame. Wonder Man would take place in the 2027 MCU timeline. Live action Wakanda series would take place in 2026 after Wakanda Forever.
Bro dont get so beat up over all the inaccuracies from Marvel, your timeline is your timeline because the projects are placed where you feel they best occur... if anything you can just use this timeline book as more information to refer to as you are free to agree and disagree with whatever you want. I respectfully dont always agree with your placements, but id hate to see you give up on all the work youve done because sometimes i do agree with you. Not to mention, you have helped me and probably many other people place projects in their own timelines without even realising it. However, I could be wrong but I think Love And Thunder being placed in Fall 2025 works perfectly. March 2017 being Thor and Jane's break up works and it's never stated to have occured otherwise. Fast forward 8 years 7 months and you are in October 2025
Its amazing one dedicated man is able to realize all of this, but an ENTIRE DEPARTMENT OF A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR CORPORATION PAID LOTS OF MONEY TO DO THIS EXACT TASK couldn't get this right 🤦🏾♂️
In my case, I am going to continue using the chronology that you gave to all of us who follow you before the launch of this book, and the placements that you give to new products in the future. I simply refuse, as a fan, to follow the instructions of a book with so many errors and so little stability. I will continue to recommend your criteria and be guided by your criteria.
Super easy: Almost all of it takes place either outside of time in the TVA facility, or in branch timelines. Narratively, it goes immediately after season 1, except for the epilogue which is "after" Quantumania.
Please don't change your timeline. You put more love & thought into these timeline videos, then this person did. You go the extra mile to put these titles at a precise date & i appreciate it! I trust your judgment on these places & makes it easier for fans like myself who wanna marathon these titles in chronological order and get a better viewing experience. Always look forward when a new title drops, to find out where your big brain fits it on this big old timeline & add it to the list in chronological order. Besides, how many people go out of there way to place the more obscure titles & the Marvel TV shows within the timeline? Really appreciate it. Really think marvel should be calling you on this, to sort this out! Keep up the good work man! Much love to you! 😊👍💙
Hey Dakoda, so here is my timeline/watch order of the old Marvel Movies. Lol some movies I didn't put in my timeline/watch order because they we're pretty bad. Lol I guess can say I pulled a He Who Remains move and pruned some movies. 😂 So here's my watch order of the old Marvel Movies before the MCU, tell me what you think: X-Men: First Class • 1962 X-Men Origins: Wolverine • 1973 B L A D E • 1998 X-MEN • 2000 BLADE II • 2002 SPIDER MAN • 2002 X2: X-MEN UNITED • 2003 Daredevil • 2003 H U L K • 2003 SPIDER MAN 2 • 2004 The Punisher • 2004 E L E K T R A • 2005 SPIDER MAN 3 • 2005 FANTASTIC 4 FOUR • 2005 X-MEN: THE LAST STAND • 2006 FANTASTIC 4: RISE OF THE SLIVER SURFER • 2007 GHOST RIDER • 2007 THE WOLVERINE • 2013 X-MEN: (DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) • 2023->1973 (New/Branched Timeline) X-MEN: APOCALYPSE • 1983 X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX • 1992 The Amazing Spider-Man • 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 • 2014 (The New Mutants) • ? 🤷🏾♂️ DEADPOOL • 2016 ( LOGAN ) • 2029 - Branched Timeline DEADPOOL 2 • 2018 After DEADPOOL 2 then I start watching the MCU movies.
@@Geekritique 😂 Lol I did it that way so I wouldn't confuse myself. Hey, you should do a video about the old Marvel Movies. You're welcome to use my strategy. I already know you'll nail it. 🫵🏾💯
Apparently a Marvel Executive has came out recently to state that The Defenders series are now canon to the sacred timeline specifically, in an interview relating to the "Echo" series. From what little footage I've seen from the show, Matt does seem to be wearing the exact same suit as in his titular series. I'd love to see new videos breaking down the exact timeline placement of each of The Defenders series in a sort of recap leading into Marvel Spotlight
@@Geekritique On that topic, your hard work definitely shows. I have a spreadsheet I've made for my family as an MCU/multiverse watch order, and your videos have been instrumental in making sense of the timeline, with phase 4 obviously being particularly egregious. Have you put any thought towards placements (in the same vain as Venom, Maguire, and Garfield universes) of the X-Men timeline(s) in the leadup to Deadpool 3?
@robertwilson8184 That makes me so glad to hear! Thanks for enjoying my content. I’ve given it some thought, but I’d really need to make a project out of it to really give my two cents.
I think it's best to just focus on the watch order of the MCU rather than year or month placements. That way, it won't be too complicated when thinking about it. I personally think Iron Man 3, L&T, and MoonKnight work in their timeline placements the book suggests, but i agree with the rest of your timeline.
@@Geekritique Honestly, I think it's because of the amount of time New Asgard looked from Endgame to L&T. I just don't see any possible way L&T can take place in April 2024 because of how newly built New Asgard was compared to how it looked in Endgame. Big construction like that can take years in advance to finish. Then again, it's fiction so real life logic doesn't necessarily need to apply in the MCU I guess.
One reason I like the idea of splitting She-Hulk over 2024 and 2025 is because of episode 4 implying that Wong believes the Book of Vishanti still exists, but episode 8 shows that the Steve Rogers Musical has made its way to California. The former doesn't make sense after the November 2024 Multiverse of Madness, but the latter doesn't really make sense at any point before 2025. Of course the book doesn't follow this logic precisely, but the idea of splitting the timing of the season at some point does help with that continuity issue.
Great, honest review. I bought this on kindle and agree with most of your points. It's a large book, but still manages to exclude a lot of timeline events/notes. My expectations were that it would want to line up with how Disney+ has the content lined up, so I get your disappointment. I personally prefer your timeline ordering to the book's so it would be sad to see you change your to fit the book's. I see the book as an 'expanded' explanation of their Disney+ time order (which we've known for a while has glaring errors), so I guess I don't see this as an issue. ie: I think it's still completely valid to keep your timeline and adding to it while acknowledging Marvel has their own "official" timeline. When I watch chronologically - I don't use the Disney+ ordering anyway.
This MCU timeline book is basically a massive kick to the balls to everything in your own timeline placements, and I can tell how hurt you really are right now. I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I really am. 😥
I gotta be honest, I knew from the start it was gonna be controversial. I don''t think it's that the people who made the book don't care, but that making a 100% cohesive timeline is impossible with how much has changed along the years, I mean, retconning Iron Man three times or more... yikes. Your timeline was awesome, dude, but at the end of the day, I don't think Marvel executives (not the writers) as a whole actually cares about it as much and just made this book for... I guess just to qualm down the people asking for a timeline book. Marvel Studios has some care about the timeline, but it has never been to the level of dedication of the fans, and seeing how many behind the scenes drama there is nowadays... I don't think it's in their priorities. It's sad, but I have accepted it for years now and that's why I'm not disappointed. I hope this doesn't deter you from doing your analysis, they're always enjoyable and a treat to watch... But the truth is, it's only fans that will ever have this level of dedication. The writers of the book, in the end, are not guilty because they're likely bound by what the executives say... and I think they really do not care as much as you do :(
This is all true. Though, one correction: I don’t think the writers had any real direction from executives. From interviews they’ve given, it seems they were hired by DK Books to rewatch the films and shows, construct a timeline, and write a book. It is simply officially licensed.
@@Geekritique Oh wait, they did? Huh. I wonder why Marvel didn't do it in-house... That would've been better. Don't they have an official timekeeper in-house?
@@Geekritique I see, btw where do u think loki s2 place? Probably immediately after s1 right, tho I was confused where the post credit scene of ant man 3 takes place
I’ll continue to clean it up! Thanks for the kind words.
These comments are all actually very touching. Thanks for letting me know you want me to continue what I do.
I completely agree! Keep up the great work Dakota. You are the real Timeline Keeper! (Geekritique Who Remains)
You make some strong points. Thank you for supporting my channel and caring about the work I put in.
I agree, your timeline videos are so tight. They way the films are not broken up to give you a viewing order for the MCU.
@markross831 Thanks Mark
PERIOD
@@Geekritique for IRON MAN 3 being in 2013 gives Tony more time to make all 35 suits & the prelude also includes new Year's Day 2000.
The 6-month line is also expressed verbally via Justin Hammer in the court hearing.
@@Geekritique I totally forgot about that! thank you
@kamozerozero No worries, it’s all good.
Hi Dakota, just a quick message to say that your work is colossal, I've been following your content for 1 year now and I'm really admiring what you've built over the years
I obviously understand and respect why you'd want to change your timeline following the "official" one, but I hope you'll continue with the one you've been building all this time
All the best 🙏
Colossal, thank you! That’s a first haha. I appreciate that, and I’m thinking I might want to continue with my vids the way I’m doing them!
I had high hopes for the book, but that’s kind of been dashed now. I’ll be keeping my timeline, don’t worry.
Thanks Brendyn, I’ll keep making sure the D+ timeline stays in check.
Thor being with the Guardians for two years makes so little sense on so many levels💀
I know it’s so unrealistic 🤣
Thanks for the video and your honesty. I have a few comments:
I’m glad you enjoy my videos dude, thank you for the kind words. I agree, Iron Man 3 and Thor: Love and Thunder are the worst haha.
Bruh it’s Loki messing with the Loom!
Son of a… frost giant
I just wish this book hadn’t come out before then ugh 😩
I didn’t want to fully hate on the book.
Okay?
@grafffuller3265 I’ll never forget you or the community, don’t you worry.
Please don’t quit your timeline. All the people who REALLY care about the timeline look to you. This corporate book means so much less than your carefully woven timeline. Please don’t turn your timeline into the less accurate “official MCU timeline” because the Geekritique MCU timeline is better, and more important to us geeks.
so the person they hired isnt in charge of the disney+ timeline placement, but they did help write this book based on the disney+ timeline
i love your videos bc you give full depth evidence on your placements and make sure each timeline placement fits in a very pleasing order to watch.
i really wish they wouldve just hired you for the position bc the person they have now is SEVERLY slacking
That’s correct, DK Books just hired some writers to pen a book. And they used what they assumed was the official timeline. I wish they had hired me as well 😔
@@Geekritique honestly I think they just “hired” someone as just a way to calm fans down who said phase 4 didn’t connect. Just lip service
Thanks so much for being a fan of my work. More videos soon!
so if you make the timeline 8.0 video, are you going to use the book? or stick with your placements… bc yours make more sense
Still debating it to be honest. As much as mine makes sense… this is now canon.
@@Geekritique oh….. that’s true… yikes

Marvel Television should’ve been on here, they missed like half the MCU, I was looking for Kang in the index, and then I realised that it was only till Phase Four.
Yup, they cut the line at Phase 4. Marvel TV def deserved to be included.
@@Geekritique There are also tons of comics that are officially MCU canon, we should have been in the book according to it’s marketing of everything in the MVU even if it was only mentioned.
@anaylabh7106 I think it’s a simple matter or “Marvel Studios didn’t make it, we’re not including it.”
@@GeekritiqueYour timeline is great. For your next timeline can you put the Marvel TV stuff one the same line as Marvel Studio’s stuff for all the TV fans.

Very happy you feel my vids have value. Thank you!
Also, if I'm ever working on a fictional Universe, I'll make sure to make such a coherrent timeline that it's impossible to mess it up
Lolll, I’m excited to see what you come up with for a fictional universe. Thanks for the kind words, I’m glad my stuff doesn’t go unnoticed.
I don’t think you should update it I want you to keep it as it is idc what marvel think or tell me what is and isn’t it should be up to the fans to decide because they clearly don’t give a crap about the timeline or us as fans it’s a shambles
I’m debating keeping my timeline. Thanks for watching!
i love ur videos of the mcu timeline and i think imo that if u find proof on where stuff is located that contradicts the "offical" timeline then do it bc u care more then the people who made the book and from everything i've seen in ur videos it makes more sense especially when u red it and there r major plot holes in the timeline bc ever since i found ur videos on 7.0 timeline that is how i've been watching the order of events while i'm watching the mcu to this date but whatever u decide to do will still support on ur placement
Thanks so much. I really appreciate this comment.
Thanks for saying this, I’ll take that into consideration.
As a man who enjoys Marvel TV shows, I'm just sad that they don't include them on Sacred Timeline. Lowkey hates Feige now 😅
It upsets me too.
Thor being 1500 years old but being a baby in 695 CE is an easy-to-solve retcon: Taika Waititi is an idiot.
6:02 Well that theory aged poorly now that Echo made Daredevil canon. Not the character, the whole show.
That’s great rationale. Thanks for the comment, and glad you liked the breakdown.
That’s a good point, at least in favor of the Marvel TV stuff. I hadn’t considered that.
This is a good idea, to make a separate timeline. Could be a great way to highlight the differences. Thanks for the comment.
Don't change your timeline to fit theirs. I follow your timeline
Glad you follow my timeline!
@Geekritique ever since I found your channel I've been following it I don't even look at nor believe Disney even knows the correct timeline
Please don't change your MCU Timeline to fit their hot mess. Your MCU Timeline IS THE MCU Timeline because of pure logic, and what the filmmakers themselves displayed on screen, plus the inclusion of all TV series, etc.
Do not succumb to their drivel.
Lol, well I’m glad you enjoy my videos. I try to use as much logic as possible.
Alright alright, I won’t give up! Thanks for the comment.
The moment we thought that we got rid of x men universe timeline it got connected with mcu in the marvels confusion lives on 😂😂
Well I’m pretty sure that’s a new timeline (like 838 was), but yeah, we’re finally getting close to the X-Men. 😁
I'm annoyed they "multiversed" all the pre Disney+ MCU shows.
Yeah that’s infuriating 😬
The Fury’s Big Week section bothered me the most because it has placements that are just impossible. It has the end scene of Iron Man 2 placed full pages before The Incredible Hulk’s Culver University battle, despite footage from that battle clearly seen on a screen when Tony meets with Fury
I noticed that too. So annoying lol.
Maybe combining your timeline and this new one is the best thing to do
That might be appropriate, yeah.
Thank you man, my work isn’t going anywhere. I’ll consider making a new book version of the timeline for Patreon however.
did they agnowladge events of previous spiderman movies at all considering caracthers from them apear and reference said events in far from home?
No, they’re not mentioned at all.
@@Geekritique thats sad
It's just sad that by releasing 1 official book they ruined many years of fans work.
Hey, the work is still there. It does invalidate it a bit, but I’ll keep doing what I do best.
Kinda like how labeling the "Sacred Timeline" as "616" has retroactively made over a decade's worth of discourse comparing the MCU to the main comics timeline (often abbreviated to "616") more ambiguous & confusing to anyone reading those articles/conversations in the future.
My most inconsistent feature is also dating
Lollll
@WhiteRaven696 Oh, I totally agree, that’s a fair point as well.
I didn't see Loki season 2 on the timeline, when exactly should we watch it and What IF Season 2?
100%, the book would be so so much better!
Love this comment. I’ll be back into the Marvel game soon enough. Just gotta get some side quests out of the way.
@@Geekritique glad to hear it :)
Take as much time as you need o7
Well it’s what marvel studios considers correct so there’s really nothing we can do about it but you really should keep your own timeline going regardless
Man, im excited for the monsterverse timeline, since I wanna know whats canon or not, since im a big fan and wanna know more of the universe and more with the new empire trailer
Being that there will be a long break of new releases between Echo and Deadpool, will you be doing another full timeline video including multiverse titles?
Damn, dude.. you spent more time talking about star wars than you did the MCU 😂
I really hope you don't change your timeline. Yours feels the most logical to me. It is the reason I've followed your channel for yrs now. 😊
good video, bro. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Imogen.
Thanks Joe, enjoy your weekend.
Please DON'T change your timeline
If someone starts a petition for you to be the official time line keeper, I would sign asap
Where can I find your official timeline instead?
Iron Man 2- "Six months later" refers to Vanko's flashback, and he was watching footage that might have been pre-recorded. Or as another commenter stated, six months after however much time it took Vanko to build his suit.
Thor Love and Thunder- Korg is telling the story in October, that's why it's placed there and not in spring (and why the movie was so bad)
But yeah, they don't care.
I knooow, the ignoring of those series is such a gut punch. Thanks man, I’ll be making more MCU content for sure.
Can we get an update with Deadpool & Wolverine. Also I am definitely getting this book.
I’m going to begin working on it soon.
My headcanon will always be your timeline Dakota you made before this book.
Thanks man, coincidentally that’s my headcanon as well haha
I consider your timeline as the true timeline
When is the Next MCU Timeline Video
My sympathies dude. I’m not as passionate about timeline placement but I definitely get this way whenever newer writers and directors mischaracterize characters or approach them with the wrong mindset. I’ve been over analyzing every second of this character’s screen appearances for over a decade now and have read and written in depth analysis of their behavior based on quotes from the original writers/director/actor, I do in fact know more than you. This is just a job for some of them. They should hire obsessive fans to get their facts straight.
I FEEL this. Good point, I strongly agree. Fans are always gonna know more than the average writer sadly.
How I watch Phase 4/5 ?
WandaVision
Falcon & Winter Soldier
Shang Chi
Eternals
Thor
Moonknight
Loki Season 1
Ant-Man 3
Loki Season 2
What if Season 1 & 2
Spider-Man 2 & 3
Doctor Strange 2
Hawkeye
Guardians of the Galaxy Special & 3
Black Panther 2
She-Hulk
Ms Marvel
Secret Invasion
The MarvelS
Nice!!
🤷🏻♂️
Well, I’ll keep making vids like I usually do. Thanks for this comment, I appreciate diff (respectful) opinions like this.
Its amazing one dedicated man is able to realize all of this, but an ENTIRE DEPARTMENT OF A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR CORPORATION PAID LOTS OF MONEY TO DO THIS EXACT TASK couldn't get this right 🤦🏾♂️
lol, thank you. Yes, I’m dedicated. Perhaps too dedicated. Oh well. 🤷🏻♂️
Seems like a cash grab as a plane crashes.
Glad to hear it! Thanks so much for watching.
Please do the monsterverse, is the only cinematic universe outside of marvel that actually works and this year expanded into 2 series
It’s on my schedule of videos! It’s coming, don’t worry.
Is it even possible to do a Pokemon timeline since Ash doesn't really seem to age?
Yeah, sorta. It’s a version of the sliding timeline.
Hey my name is Dakota too and I love your channel!
Haha, thanks Dakota! My nickname growing up was also Cody (diff spelling).
This man never misses
Well, I miss occasionally. 😂
Are you going to do Loki S2 next for a timeline placement.
Hey Dakoda, so here is my timeline/watch order of the old Marvel Movies. Lol some movies I didn't put in my timeline/watch order because they we're pretty bad. Lol I guess can say I pulled a He Who Remains move and pruned some movies. 😂

This is really cool bro. Thanks for breaking it up into trilogies too 😂
@@Geekritique 😂 Lol I did it that way so I wouldn't confuse myself.
That would take months to accomplish, with the types of vids I make, but yes. Brad Winderbaum considers them canon.
I can’t fathom how anyone would prefer L&T in Fall 2025 lol, but the other two I’m less picky on. Thanks for watching.
Of course the book doesn't follow this logic precisely, but the idea of splitting the timing of the season at some point does help with that continuity issue.
from the moment they announced this book I was like, I don't know why they're doing this now, they're just gonna have to make another one later anyway
At least they’re finally paying attention to the timeline.
@@Geekritique Yes, I do appreciate that much at least.
Don't think you should have to change your idea of the timeline. Keep up the good work!
You’re probably right
@@Geekritique Now if only they would hire you!
It’s a little late now, but I wouldn’t say no.
The fact I had the same exact thoughts on this book as I reading it shows how noticeable it is
See! I’m not crazy 😂
@@Geekritique im still gonna use it as a reference point tho because there’s no way I spent days finishing it just to ignore it 😅
I gotta be honest, I knew from the start it was gonna be controversial.
@carloshuayta3973 Supposedly they do, but this was more a DK Books production than a Marvel production sadly.
I want to know what he thought of it
Well, you’re in luck!
On average how long does it take to make a timeline video
Depends on the size of the project. Big timeline projects, about 2-4 months. Smaller vids on singular shows/films, 5-14 days.
@@Geekritique I see, btw where do u think loki s2 place? Probably immediately after s1 right, tho I was confused where the post credit scene of ant man 3 takes place
