Thanks a lot for posting this. I was very curious to see how the adapter would behave on non Sirui spherical lenses

Preparing another where I test the adapter on Canon RF and Sigma Zoom lenses.

You should do a test of the Lens with and with out the adapter at diffrent T stops to see how the softness and sharpness at diffrent stops effects the look from the adapter. One that's a stationary focus on a subject And possibly a lens flare too.

I had the exact same combination in mind when I found out about the anamorphic adapter, glad to see it in fruition. And surprisingly an acceptable amount of vignetting even at 25mm, even though its just Super 35.
Edit: perhaps even trying it with zoom lenses, such as the sigma 18-35 or 50-100. Curious to see how the adapter works with zooms.

I have the Sigma Art 24-35mm and the Canon RF 24-105 f4 L. I can try them out and if it’s worth it, upload a test.

Keep in mind Komodo has an S35+ sensor, so it will probably not vignette at all on an S35 sensor.

Any chance you can do a shot in focus as the constant track out of focus is a bit tricky to tell.

complete noob question but why does this look more squeezed than my 35mm 1.6x on my sony? Is it because I can't shoot open gate on my a7sIII or is the squeeze 2x as you write "x2 (x1.25) Anamorphic"? I noticed I don't have quite the same oval on my sirui 35mm anamorphic.

Most of my lenses are F2,8, so F2, and have some F1.8 and also F0.9. What do you think the result would be if using an MFT with a Metabone Booster ? I want to try my Pro EF lenses and Vintage lenses to add the anamorphic look. The large rear thread size also appeals to me compared to my two SLR Magic 40 and 50 models. Incidentally I have backed as a punt hoping for success, as my dedicated 50 mm Sirius Anamorphic MFT that I backed Dec 2019 I used for first real use 3 weeks ago and got fabulous results. the first test was to check functionality 2 years ago. So physically have only used twice, but guess what, the lower barrel area below the focus ring has gone loose, rocks and is falling apart. Sirius don't want to know as they say it's 2 years old. I STATED HAVE USED FOR THE FIRST TIME PROPERLY 3 WEEKS AGO, and wanted to test some idea out last night to find its falling apart. They now expect me to ship back to China for a REPAIR ESTIMATE !!!!!!! Totally crazy, as in legal terms it's NOT fit for purpose and somebody must have had a bad day in the factory when assembling. I have many vintage 60 year old lenses, and absolutely no mechanical issue at all. Sirius have no idea how to solve such a customer problem and never even offered me a replacement. That has totally put me off buying a 35mm and 100mm version, so hence the spherical bolt on more versatile choice. Am appalled and gutted by their response, so am venting here.

1st, using any speedbooster will introduce additional artifacting (CA, etc).
2nd, I don't know if there's a speedbooster for MFT lenses, but keep in mind that the image circle of the lens usually covers a little over MFT (lower cost of optics and smaller mechanical/physical size) so you will experience vignetting, keep all that in mind. ;)
As for your 50mm, I understand that it's almost new, but far as I know, they'd expect you to make sure the item you received is in full working order within a reasonable amount of time from initial receipt. Check what your warranty cover was when you backed the 50mm and cite that in your communication with them.
If it's any help, their QC and build quality has improved a lot since then. I have a set of the MFT anamorphics converted to RF and they feel flimsy compared to the x1.6 FF series.
Generally, they do not make anything (incl lenses) like they did 60 years ago. I doubt even the best equipment will last half a century from now.

Is the bokeh not oval or circular on the 50mm? Were you using a matte box for this test?

    • @TheLensCuff

You are correct, I had to use a Matte Box.
