    9:00: The penalty for one over is so small that it's literally costing you influence in 99% of cases to NOT go over it.
    Remember that a small city will produce more than 10 influence. Considering this, going over two is usually a good idea, because you get a tiny penalty.

    Some useful tips here. Thanks! But I don't think that tip about movement in combat is 100% accurate. It's just that you ignore enemy zone of control when passing through friendly units, so it just seems like you get more movement. I could be mistaken though. You (or I) could always test with a bunch of Hunnic Horde units (they ignore ZoC and their multimove makes setting up the test easier). The number at the end of your unit's path is how many turns it takes to move there, not how many movement points it costs, by the way.

    • @JumboPixel
      @JumboPixel  2 роки тому +2

      You are right, and you’ve got me on the technicality! It’s the fact that units ignore zone of control when passing through friendly units that enables the extra movement. 👍

    Some advanced tips for the independent peoples: They are a fantastic way to get your military stars and ransack income if you're on a large-ish landmass. Every era I use one or two as punching bags if I'm not going to war with a proper AI civilization. When you don't want them to spawn, place an outpost, or better yet wander around with a scout and ransack their outposts before they form into cities. If they do form an outpost in an advantageous spot then you can kill off their units and then take the city (much easier to pick them off before assaulting as they tend to have a ton of units in the vicinity). Or you can leave it as an impediment to the AI factions making a beach head.
    If you don't want a city from an AI or an independent people you can 'liberate' it and it will have your culture and be friendly to you. This makes it slightly harder for the AI to bribe it away but also keeps that territory safe for maybe coming back for more military stars later.
    Bonus war tip: You can earn war support by tricking the enemy into attacking you and then kicking their butt. A two-for-one special: You get a grievance for the attack and they lose war support for the defeat. Just walk your units in multiples near an AI in unclaimed territory or better yet in one of their outpost territories (so you're not trespassing). They will often attack right away, but sometimes it takes a couple times walking by and thumbing your nose at them.

    Make Armies Faster !! If you got a good gold income do this exploit. Before you complete a Technology that will upgrade, say horse units, queue up a whole lot of current lower horse units in all your cities and then when the Technology completes you can make the old horses in 2 turns instead of 4 turns for the new horse and then use gold to update those units... you can always delete the queued up old horses if you don't need them but they are there in case you need military as fast as possible. This works for any naval and land military units. The higher the technology level of the unit the higher the gold cost will be in updating it. Currently I'm seeing 400 gold to update to longbow archers, 800 gold to update to Great Swordsman, 1600 gold to update to Knights horses.

  • @s33k3r8
    @s33k3r8 2 роки тому +5

    I'm not 100% sure but for the instance about moving through your units in combat, the number "1" that was shown means turns needed to make the move and not actual movement points spent since it's the same thing that is shown when you queue up a movement while not in combat on the map, and I don't think it costs 0 mp to move through your units, but I could be wrong about that.

    I discovered a pretty scummy way to win wars. Surround an army with your troops, then continuously battle. They can only spawn in one tile and hence you can win that battle easily. Keep doing it until they have no more troops. With luck they would have just lost 50 war support in a single turn.

    If you reach the point of gunpowder infantry and are assaulting a city with a good-sized army, check to see if the city defenders have any reinforcements. If not, as in the only defenders are the automatic militia units, autoresolve almost always results in zero damage to the attacker while manual assault will have an AI phase where the enemy units mostly all suicide on a single player unit causing a LOT of damage or killing that single unit.

  • @nobodyparticular8529
    @nobodyparticular8529 2 роки тому

    Worth noting that defending against ai units is only a good idea before gunpowder units. Once you hit that point, units dont retaliate if fired upon from 2 or more tiles away. So if you keep using the defensive stance, you will simply be allowing the ai free damage to your army.
    Also, manually fighting battles (no matter how trivial) allows you to min-max the xp for your units. If one of your units is about to level up, then use that instead of say, a 3-star unit (especially if you are not really incurring any risk in doing so). More veteran units will always be better in minimizing need for army upkeep and increases chances in wars on higher difficulty playthroughs

    if you earn 1000 ............. 2 cities too much is 120 which is mhm, at the border of O.K. but could save you important areas or nat. ressources...

    Question: My game on Nation with Peaceful=No, the AI get 4 x 4 armies each, that in turn comes knocking at my cities gates. This happens by Classical Era. And often has the AI had a war between them selves in advance, so their units have high veteran-lvl. I can produce a large army my self, but often end up with 1 or 2 armies of 4 units, and a bunch of Scouts from the Tribe Era. But the AI comes in waves, and I can't heal up fast enough. They expand much faster then my as well. By my 2-3 cities + 5-7 territories, they often have 4 solid cities each, and about 10 territories. Do I have a "high profile" that AI singles out, and want to crush? Have seen all of your vids on HumanKind, Jumbo, but can't seem to figure this one out.

    • @Brawls05
      @Brawls05 2 роки тому +1

      On higher difficulties some AI & Civ combinations are just OP. If you get placed near an AI that chooses the Huns it's usually an autoloss. My advice is be very aggressive in placing your outposts and spend all your money on hiring mercenary armies from nearby neutral tribes. I think an army of spearmen+ warriors cost something silly like 80 gold for 10 turns. All the remaining money needs to go to trading luxuries with other nations which ups your stability and food generation for more armies.

    Heey Mate, I want to say I really like the video's you make. I have one question on the game and maybe you or somebody else in the community can help me out. And maybe the answer can be one of the tips in the next video.
    What happens with excess production and science? Is see you queing up a lot of production in your cities. For instance when a building costs 100 production and you have 150 production in de city, will the excess production count towards the next building. And in case it does buy you forgot to queue it up beforehand will it get lost?

    • @JumboPixel
      @JumboPixel  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much!
      It definitely carries over, because in blitz speed I’ve completed several districts in one turn, in one city! I’m unsure about the technicalities though so I’d need to test or research it further to be 100%!

  • @Brawls05
    @Brawls05 2 роки тому

    Another reason not to enter a new era too quickly. Every time you do it, influence costs jump. If you advance too fast your influence generation won't keep up with the costs and you end up getting civic laws that cost 10k influence when you're earning 1k per turn. Same goes with cost of absorbing cities, creating outposts, etc.

    I have done two complete playthroughs and i find the AI is pretty much rushing through the eras. Very annoying, because it forces you to rush aswell if you like to get certain cultures and wonders, but on the other hand they dont get much fame out of the era so winning is very easy even if you rush too. Last game i just got into the last era on turn 800, but my research was actually more than one era behind, and i had triple of the fame the second AI had. So late game was not even started at that point. I hope the AI gets further balance to it will not advance as soon as it can and play more of a strategic game.

    Hey I FINALLY figured out an easy way to calculate the excess stability a city has. Excess stability is the amount of stability over 100%, I was shocked that the UI did not give you this figure automatically. Anyway:
    If Stability is 100%, and If BASE VALUE is in the GAINS section: EXCESS STABILITY = 40 - BASE VALUE
    If Stability is 100%, and If BASE VALUE is in the LOSSES section: EXCESS STABILITY = -BASE VALUE
    If Stability is < 100%, you don't have excess stability, you have a stability deficit of 100 - Stability.
    For example, from my current game, I have a city "JumboPixel" that has +26 "Stability as Base Value" in the Gains section. That means for "JumboPixel" I can use up 14 stability and still have 100% stability (14 = 40 - 26).
    In the same game, same turn, I have a city "SpiffingBrit" that has a -11 "Stability as Base Value" in the Losses section. That means for "SpiffingBrit" I can use up 11 stability and still have 100% stability (11 = - -11).
    Q: Why don't they just show the excess stability?
    A: I dunno.
    Q: Why does the "Stability as Base Value" sometimes show up in Gains and sometimes in Losses:
    A: I dunno.
    Q: I can think of much better ways to present the Stability information.
    A: That's not a question.

    Is the game really so simple that it is only all about Fame points?
    Fortunately not. :)
    If you for example play a conquest game where its about being the first to occupy or delete or make vassal state of all other players, then fame does not count at all.
    If you play the first to research all winning science, then fame does not count at all.
    So no, the game is far from all about fame points. The longest and most interesting games does not care about fame points at all.
