- Hello, my fellow Banksians!! It's been a few months since my last upload. I've finally gotten myself sorted out with a new PC. I can finally get back on track with giving you guys your monthly dose of Tony. I've been wanting to upload this particular video for a while now. I wanted to upload it two years ago for the 30th anniversary of 'Invisible Touch' but I was on a hiatus then. Anyway, enough of that.
In this interview we have Tony & Phil being interviewed at The Farm. Mike was on tour with Mike & The Mechanics until July 1986. This explains why he wasn't present during this interview. They discuss touring, recording music, writing music, music reviews, and other interesting topics. Enjoy!
The entire band was very smart and articulate, if somewhat introverted, but also down to earth. Phil clearly takes music seriously (as did Tony) and was very aware of other musicians. Nice to hear Phil mention the 'mirror tour' in 1978. I saw that concert and it was the best concert of my life (I saw a lot of great bands). Phil and Chester's drum duet was a show-stopper and blew me away. The light show was equal to the fabulous music (the notorious mirrors worked great). This group is so tight. Well rehearsed but still sounding fresh and spontaneous.
Its refreshing having just Tony & Phil being interviewed. Usually it's Tony & Mike or all 3 & they had to battle to all talk sometimes.
Phil's joke about 3 kinds of fans who go to concerts is hysterical!!!!!!! GENESIS rules even in interviews!!!
I saw this tour in 86. My very favorite concert ever. In a arena likethey spoke of In Lexington Kentucky. It sounded very good.
We caught them in Chicago for this tour as well. 15 years old and my first concert. The bar was set extremely high from that point!
I was 17 in June 1986 and thought they were so old then. Now, I'm 50 and think how young they are.
I was 13 in June 1986, and thought they were so old then. Now, *I’m* 50 and think how young they are.
PC & TB are so creative and articulate down to earth musicians. Brilliant listen!!!
Great interview. The guys were so relaxed and really were revealing. Thanks for posting
They sound so upbeat and excited here. Even Tony.
Thank you for uploading!!
You're very welcome.
i still have this interview on vinyl picture disc, with an unrelated photo of the band with bill bruford 76 and on the flip side peter and phil live, probably reading fest, in 79.....
I still have this interview disc. Still great to listen too!
I have it on CD. That's where I ripped it from actually.
Like an old school podcast!
Daniel L. Yeah, it kinda is!
Tony, música excelente, Phil excelente cantor e músico!
Dois bonitões, lindos não dá pra poupar elogios! Sou Super fã!
Damn, I wish this interview had taken place a month later when both Peter and the band reached #1 on Billboard Top 100 in America, would have been interesting to hear their take then! Also, Tony not even mentioning the video for Sledgehammer while discussing the phenomenon of the music video, perhaps the video wasn't yet in heavy rotation in Europe/Britain when this interview took place...
Loved the time machine-feel of it all though, I was about to turn fifteen that year and remember that time very well, though it wouldn't be until 2004 when I started to listen to Genesis records, the early/mid 70s stuff that is.
Cool material.
I'm stunned to hear Phil reference Iron Maiden.
This is great! Thanks so much for sharing :)
Sue Tsu Glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you for uploading! This takes me back!!!
No problem!
Thank you for the upload!
That hour flew by. I would listen for many more hours
Check out my Tony interview playlist for hours more.
@@BanksianCentral Oh trust me, I already have hahaha! I just counted and there’s only 14 videos in that playlist I’ve yet to watch! (Or, if you look on the bright side… there’s still 14 videos I get to watch!)
Your channel has been an invaluable resource over the years. Thank you very much for all you do. Particularly your “Tony clips” interview/documentary edits have been incredibly helpful, as well as the wealth of interviews in general of course, plus the rarities and music videos and all the rest of it. Really just a fantastic channel all around; nobody “gets it” like Tony fans do :)
@@turnleftaticeland Thanks very much for your kind words.
Me too!!!
@@juniperj Oh my god hi….. 😭 idk who that is up there
Tony was right about Australia! they did crack the market in the live tour 86-87
Mike was on tour with The Mechanics until July 86. That's why he wasn't there.
Interesting bit of information there. I greatly appreciate that and I'll have to update the description with it. 😎
I was a little curious about that. Thanks
Think Tony meant the Forth rail bridge...rather than the Forth road bridge.
It's to bad you can barely hear the questions!!
Is that John Edgington?
'Whispering John Edgington' ;)
No
I was thinking the same, sounds like a younger version of him, and they're always very relaxed with him.
Has there been any talk of what might happen in 2024 regarding 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'? After all it will be its 50th anniversary. Imagine THAT!
