      Assalamualaikum brother,
I'm living in Bangladesh and would love to give an update what's happening as of 1st August 2024.
      1. As of death toll, the number exceeds 250. Unofficial we are thinking more then 300-400.
      2. Kids as young as 4 years old died at their home from gun shot. And the number is at least 6.
      3. They used ak47 . Yes you heard me right, Ak47 in full automatic rifle at the unarmed protesters.
      4. They used helicopters to shoot from the air and UN marked vehicles.
      5. After all of these, the government didn't stop. They targeted specifc areas of where majority of the students live and did raids to arrest and assault them at mid night which is still going on.
      6. They are capturing the youngs even the younger 14,16years old from roads to homes and sending them to jail. Calling them killers even they did not do anything.
      6. Police are checking phones on the road and from the raid to see if we have any proof of what had happened and done by the government. If they find anything related to this, they'll simply delete them , assault the person and send him to jail. Even to girls they are doing the same.
      7. After all of this, the government is denying everything that happened and trying pin it on extremists and terrorists.
      8. They shot mir mugdho who was not even protesting. He was there to give water to the protesters as it was really hot and humid day. They shot abu sayed who was unarmed.( You can watch the videos just by searching their name in social platforms.
      9. After all these teachers , lawyers and even reporters have also joined in the protest.
All I said here is true and can be verified. You can ask our brothers and sisters living in UK about it and they'll help you to find the truth.

200 people were killed in the protests. Mostly students protesting the quota system for government jobs but also bystanders and a few Police personnel.
      Not thousands as you claim.
Please stop exaggerating. That doesn't help anyone.
Now that the government has conceded to the students just demands for a fair merit-based system for civil service jobs, there should be no more protests. The country needs normalcy.

Thank you, Dilly Hussain, for your gentle words for the cause of Bangladeshi protesters and intellectual overview pertaining to the issue. I'm overwhelmed by the support of you and the way you are commentating on this issue, is truly remarkable. In Bangladesh, we are in dire condition in terms of security and mutiny surrounding us. Everyday thousands are abducted from streets, block raids in residential areas. But despite of horrors, committed by government reinforcements, and fear which is within us all the time, we are protesting on the streets for our civil rights and justice for the unjust killings and unforced disappearances of our general people including students, teachers and political activists who have very little if not nothing to do with any kind of terrorist activities of which they are being convicted. But at the end of the day, we hope for a resurrection of independence that must prevail at the cost of our blood and sacrifice Insha'Allah. Until that we humbly request you to talk about this issue as much as possible within your capacity and enlighten those who are not that much aware of our struggles over the period of a 16-year-old tyranny and dictatorship.

Tragically, over 1,000 students have lost their lives at the hands of the Bangladesh police, BGB, RAB, ARM, Chatra League, and the ruling party, Awami League.
Today was another brutal day for Bangladeshi students, with incidents of open fire resulting in the deaths of students in Khulna, Sylhet, and Dhaka (Uttara).

Alhamdulillah. I am so so thankful this is being covered for the non bengali speaking audience. As a Bengali most of the video I have watched so far in English only cover the partial truth of the matter. The deep corruption within the so called "quota" system is almost never being talked about. Like how the Hasina's government passes out those fake freedom fighter certificate to keep her people in power. The actual freedom fighters are not even benefiting from her corrupt quota system. The strategic game Hasina's regime has been playing in Bangladesh only Bangladeshis truly understand and are afraid to talk about inside the country. Jazakallah Khair ♥

I am speaking as a common citizen of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has now become unlivable due to the oppression of the present government. The student quota movement is centered around. These tyrannical governments are firing from helicopters. 😓 Many adults including 3 year old children have been killed in their own homes due to firing. Apart from this 1000+ students have been shot dead indiscriminately by this government. Thousands of students are now missing. Here is another reason why these brutal murders have been used. UN authorized helicopters and equipment. So is the United Nations behind this murder?? But the Bangladesh government has shut down the internet to keep this information secret. So that the international media does not get the correct information. In this situation our wish for the intervention of the United Nations. At the same time, I call on the international media to present the correct information to the United Nations🙏

For several years, the Economist famously used the phrase “Battling Begums” to describe Bangladesh’s two successive female prime ministers because they cannot stand each other. In addition to conveying the jealousy and rivalry between the two matriarchs, the expression “Battling Begums” also shows the disastrous effect of their mutual contempt on the political economy of Bangladesh. Khaleda and Hasina were in power since 1991, in quasi-democratic regimes until Hasina's victory in 2008 when she got power and kept it. In some sense, Bangladeshi culture legitimises dynastic democracy. When it comes to power, privileges and legacies, Mujib and Zia “dynasties” are very different from of those Nehru, Bandaranaike or Bhutto. In the absence of a new generation of leaders who are free of the hangover of autocracy and “dynastic” oligarchy, Mujib and Zia dynasties’ legacies will endure indefinitely. In accordance with the dog-eat-dog mentality, Bangladesh has virtually become a perpetual battlefield of the Begums. Khaleda and Hasina both lack administrative experience and skills. Neither of them is highly educated and a good administrator. It was by default that they became leaders. Khaleda succeeded her late husband, President Ziaur Rahman, while Hasina succeeded her late father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first Prime Minister. They both have their shenanigans, idiosyncrasies and inadequacies. After removing Zia’s name from Dhaka’s International Airport, Hasina has been trying to erase Zia’s memory throughout the country. For example, she has tried to remove Zia’s grave from its current location in Dhaka city by blatantly fabricating that Zia is not buried there, but someone else is (“BNP knows Zia’s body not at Chandrima Udyan: PM”, New Age, Aug 26, 2021.). These efforts are intended to save the Mujib dynasty from extinction or oblivion. By issuing a postage stamp in the names of her son and deceased brother in mid-2021 (with exchequer money), seemingly Hasina is trying to perpetuate her “dynastic rule.” Any semblance of democracy or accountability that existed under Khaleda’s two terms has almost vanished under Hasina. She has been running a one-party dictatorship since 2014, which is notorious for being corrupt and intolerant of opposition. Various reports by the Amnesty International, Journalists Without Border, US Human Rights Watch and other human rights agencies during the past few years have projected the Hasina regime as autocratic, corrupt and tyrannical. The Human Rights Watch report in August 2021 reveals that around 600 people from Bangladesh have been forced to disappear by law enforcement officials since 2009. In comparison to Hasina’s misrule and tyranny, even Ershad’s corrupt civil-military oligarchy seems much more benign, civil and efficient. The recovery from this mess is not likely to be fast and complete.

Students of Bangladesh has called for a non-cooperation movement from today to the entire nation. Everyone now has only one point: resignation of the prime minister. But the awami league government might take violent approach again today in fear of losing their power. It's not only students who are protesting in the field, it's the entire country, people from all profession. I am a university student, and I want to clearly state that Bangladeshi students are not safe. Students are dying every day. The police are openly firing on peaceful protesters. There is no involvement from any third party or opposition party in this movement; they are all common and peaceful students.
As an independent nation, we believe in our democracy, our freedom, and our right to free speech and justice. That is why the students of Bangladesh protest against corruption. What is wrong? However, when the government is unfair and autocratic, it raises questions about justice and freedom of speech. The elections in Bangladesh have not been fair. Hasina's government has been supported by the police, army, and the student group, Chhatra League, in every situation where someone speaks up for our rights.
Today, August 2, 2024, the students continue their movement, demanding answers for why nearly 268 students have been killed. Why is the government doing this? The government must be held responsible. It is shameful that the police, under government orders, are openly shooting at peaceful protesters. Today, nearly three-quarters of the students are dead. We want justice; otherwise, the situation for students will become dire.
The UN should act carefully and ensure justice because our military has used UN-marked weapons, tanks, and helicopters-tools that have been used to kill innocent students.
I have a question: Will the students ever achieve their justice?
