This is my first gouache painting ever. I followed along to this tutorial and I dont hate it! I have a long way to go to be as good as you, Sarah, but I will get there!
Just starting with gouache and found some of your tutorials. So much fun and different from watercolors. Mixing colors is still a challenge. Thanks for the help.
Ohh this is a gorgeous painting. I love the sweeping clouds in the sky & the bold bright sand with pops of grasses here & there. I really enjoy watching your painting process & progress. This was so relaxing to see. Thanks for sharing this.
I love these tutorials please keep making them/i am a beginner to gouach and color mixing and matching makes me so stressed it’s soo hard thank you again for the amazing tutorials ❤️
You’re welcome! I will be releasing a new skillshare class on October 1st that is an “intro to gouache” type of thing with tons of advice to get you started.
Sarah you always make it look easy..thats how we know youre a great teacher!! I absolutely live this pic and wish I could do skies like this..mine always blend into a wishy washy mess 🫣. Love this style of video..thank you for sharing your process❤
This looks beautiful!! I've got my paints out at the moment and am painting along! you're the artist who got me into watercolour landscapes and I am incredibly grateful!!
You made this so simple to follow with your helpful tips! Thank you for this wonderful tutorial :) I just painted along to this and really loved the way it turned out, all thanks to you! I'll share mine on IG soon and tag you 😊
really lovely piece, Sarah . I just want to tell you that I think you are one of the best teachers, with gouache.. you give such detailed explanations and tips , along with your thought processes , as you go.. I find it all incredible helpful , and I thank you for that,, "norakag " here 😊👍👍
I was shamefully doubting the colors at first but then it all flowed so beautifully at the end and that just shows you have to trust the process because the first part of painting will never do the last part of the painting justice 😍😍
Love it I used to live in lossimouth, just down the road! (ISH)... Love your work. It is my intention to try to paint some of the areas I used to go to. I. Don't know if I missed it but did you list the colours!
Perfect timing! We are camping on the coast in a couple of weeks. It should look every much like the coast where you were at. Sandy dunes and beach. I'll have to give this a try. Not sure how the weather will be. Likely overcast and super windy but hopefully the rain will stay away. Speaking of, have you ever found sand in your palette after a plein air session?
Our first course in art school this semester was plein air painting and now I see painting in general (even in studio) in a whole new way! Thank you for sharing your travels outside :)
I really like the idea of this bright blue shadow! The only thing I'd do differently is to paint some of the grass lying or pointing other directions as up. This way they look too unified.
I just came by your UA-cam on painting with gouache. I normally paint in watercolor. Do I squeeze gouache out of tube ahead of time into a palette, or only squeeze what I need as I paint.
Typically I only use gouache fresh from the tube, but if you have an air-tight palette like mine, you can squeeze it in and keep using it for as long as it lasts.
Thank you for the great video! What kind of watercolor palette are you using in this video? It seems simple but super functional. I have been looking for something like it, but I can’t find it.
Hello Sarah! Thank you for this great tutorial. But I was confused about something you said in the video. I think you mentioned that phthalo blue leans towars more green which makes it warmer, meanwhile ultramarine blue is cooler. I might be missing something but I thought it was the opposite. I'd really appreciate if you help me understand this :) Thank you again for teaching us your great technique and wisdom. ^^ Cheers!
Do you add water to your paint? It looks a bit dry, not sure if it’s preference or the type of paint. My gouache paint won’t really go along way without water.
I did a few of your paintings that I loved which would make my day if you could check it out! @juicyscribbles on ig. I lost motivation to paint for a few months because I only loved your tutorials and I'm so excited to paint this one today!!

Yes definitely! I have dropped my whole palette in the sand before 😱
Our first course in art school this semester was plein air painting and now I see painting in general (even in studio) in a whole new way! Thank you for sharing your travels outside :)
Oh that’s awesome! I sometimes wish I studied painting in school to have a stronger understanding and not have to figure everything out by mistakes 😂
Molto bello
Maravilloso!.
Very nice and tranquil.
Thanks 😊
I really like the idea of this bright blue shadow!

@@SarahBurnsStudio Thank you!
I don’t think your grass shadows are dark enough and are too blue. You did a great job on everything else. Paul

Its just a standard sealable palette from amazon..like £15?
@@SarahBurnsStudio Thank you so much for your information!
i bought that pallette how long does it keep gouache fresh
Several months so far

I add water for certain types of brush strokes, and I let my brush dry out for other reasons (I love dry brush texture!)
What type and size of tape u use
What colors did u mix for painting the sand?
Burnt sienna, white
🥰🥰🥰

We all go through ups and downs - just remember why you paint in the first place and don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
