Society expects men to not show emotions which is just a different society expectation. The only difference is that looks are easy to notice from a distance while emotions are harder to see which is probably a large reason why the expectation of a woman's looks is talked about far more than a man's emotions.

I am a retired nurse who practiced for nearly 40 yrs. I agree with all the rest, but physiologically, males are not able to tolerate pain as well as women. Yes, many men minimize pain.... until his wife walks in the room...I once had a 6'5" 300 lb. logger of solid muscle. A tree fell on him. He acted tough until his 5'2", 100 lb. wife came into the room. He started crying like a baby. She held him as he pulled her into the bed to cuddle her. She told me I could now give him pain meds. He fell asleep finally. I feel very badly for my 30 y.o. nephew who so wants a decent girl with whom to settle down and have a family. But for decades now, girls have been raised to believe that they are "special". It's sad. I'm older and this all seems crazy.
