How We Made a Unique Aftermovie

- One of the biggest music festivals in Norway wanted us to make an unique Aftermovie. This is how it went. We will also reveal the first winners of Filmmakers World Cup in this video!
So, an Aftermovie is basically a video about an event or festival. It’s purpose is to show how awesome the festival is and thereby get new visitors and more sold tickets.
Our Aftermovie was for a Norwegian festival called Landstreff Stavanger. Over 13 000 graduated students visit the festival every year to celebrate their graduation and party with artists like Martin Garrix, Axwell Ingrosso, Macklemore and more. When people graduate in Norway, they celebrate something called “russ”. They dress up in special clothes, style their own party busses and party for many weeks. It was going to be a crazy weekend for sure.
For filming, we had two Panasonic EVA1 cameras, one Red Scarlet, one Red Epic, a Panasonic GH5s, a Panasonic GH5, a Sony a7s and a Dji Phantom drone. The EVA1 and GH5s were meant for the fictional scenes, the second EVA1 and the red cameras were meant for concerts and other stuff, the Sony A7S was meant for interviews, and the GH5 for backup. Using cameras from the same brand and shooting in the same picture profile, makes it much easier to match the colors in post.
Here is the equipment used in making the Aftermovie (Affiliation link): bhpho.to/2Q3CRLX
For the fictional scenes besides the festival, we used the EVA1 with Atomos Shogun Inferno to record 10-bit apple prores and to use the nice HDR tool on the Shogun. If you haven’t seen the video about it yet, here it is: • Do external recorders ...
This is one of the projects were you realise yet again that having having an awesome crew, dedicated to their work, is both highly necessary to make a good film and what makes the production fun to do. Thanks to Leander Håvik, Ole-Martin Sandness, Kristoffer Alvarado, Ask Sunde, Fredrik Winge, Dmitry Tkachenko, David Kristiansen and Sindre Sandemo.

Thanks for the 1st place guys :) that was a lot of fun making this video! Can’t wait for the next one
We truly had a laugh watching it. Looking forward to seeing what more you come up with. Good luck :D
This is what you really need to learn about filmmaking, the deeper bits, back to basic, but yet more advanced filmmaking, the true art of making films. Really good job, both on the how to and the actual videos!
WOW! This is such a comprehensive look at creating what appeared to be just a simple video but you showed that's never the case. Thanks for the incredibly in-depth look into the making of this video!
Thanks to everyone who made a video for the Filmmakers World Cup! Our plan for the future is to make it possible to give each other constructive feedback on all entries in addition to showing all videos on our homepage (www.filmmakersworldcup.com). This is just the beginning. We hope to see your video for the next challenge! Good luck! :)
Exciting! Will it have a popcorn mode for when I want to binge watch all the entries?

@@Andyax brother you are Love
amazing video and story! love it...!
Great stuff! Quick question about aftermovie making in clubs or at festivals - When dealing with very fast and irregular strobbing in low-light situations, how do you adjust frame rate and/or shutter so that you don't see half of the image capturing light and the other capturing darkness? Is faster shutter usually the answer or is slower shutter best so that it is similar to the human eye?
Loved the BTS video taught me several aspects of how to go about video production. One aspect though I’m curious about is when editing the video like all Aftermovies had you a soundtrack in place and hence was the editing process was timed to the soundtrack. Was a story board created for editing the scenes of dancing or from the festival so you knew a story board time line to compliment the soundtrack or was it done on the fly.
Trying to create my own Aftermovie and I’m trying to work on the ‘correct’ way of editing so I can use this process for future aftermovies.
Currently with the footage I recorded I recorded on the fly, from different distances and angles. Then currently sorting each shot into the types of shots eg wide or medium close ups (which is taking up a lot of time but satisfied this is a good process) and then picking from those folders/specific shits to mix in with a soundtrack.
This is the first time I’ve done it this way but I’m curious as I said what is best practise or simply the most efficient way of editing from ALL the footage that CAN be recorded.
Once again thanks for sharing this video as I’ve used it as a reference point and replayed it many times 😊
Very slick and informative video. Lovely work. Looking forward to seeing the whole thing. I am curious though, why did you choose to use the EVA/GH5 over the Reds for the fiction section? Cheers!
This is awesomee! Great job!
This is a very helpful video! Could you share us the spreadsheet you mentioned at 10:00 ? I was wondering how you structured this shoot
Glad to see you again
Fantastisk video Anders!! :-)
Takk Vegard, masse lykke til!!
you are such a profesional cameraman
This is fantastic Andy! Looking forward to potentially working together in the future :)
Absolutely love this channel
Thanks Sheena! Looking forward to sharing more content on Patreon as well soon. I think we will have a live Q&A this week :) Thanks for joining.

Very nice video! Thanks👌🏽👌🏽
This looks great, where can i find the finished product?
Love it!
Awesome. I would not have liked the festival since I don't enjoy that kind of music but your visuals are fantastic 🙂
Also as a German "Wilhelm Bratwurst" made me laugh out loud so cheers to that 😁
Hey guys, I'm wondering what kind of structure that you show at 10:05 you did to manage all the footage, is there a tip or something I can watch, or download like a template?
I was just searching and then this pops up my hometown with like 9000 people
How did you all handle white balance in the night concert shots? I have a shoot coming up and those light difference seem scary to approach.
this is amazing!
19:26 Which camera was this shot on? I like the feeling of the image, and it stands out from the rest of this montage...(edit: referring to the man on stage with a red overall)

I missed the first round. Had the family issue and busy with many stuff as my father passaway. hope i got chance to join the second rounds.
We hope so too! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)
Where can i see the after movie :o
With external recorders becoming as economical as they are, and the ability to record 4K-60 in 10 bit to the recorders, I was surprised to hear you decide to use 8 bit to maintain the 4K-60. I have been doing just that with my GH5 and Atomos Ninja Inferno, the only downside being I'm running out of storage space on all my hard drives!
Hi Trevor. Thanks for your comment. With the budget we had, we couldn't rent seven external recorders just for the sake of shooting prores and 10bit 4k 60fps at the festival. In addition, shooting with external recorders require you to carry a lot batteries and harddrives, and you are less flexible. It may result in less creative shots in a production where you need to be all over the place in just two days.
Long time no see ! Greetings from Algeria 🇩🇿❤️
Who is that at 14:43 ? Really enjoyed watching this bts! Thanks for sharing!
Can I ask a link for the aftermovie? ❤

Screen = white flicker light is the standard unrealistic "holywood" way to do it. Dont like it personally but many might not care or prefer it.

It turned out to be a generic aftermovie with a gimmick?
If narrative storytelling is a gimmick, then you are right ^^. Stay tuned when I will share the Aftermovie soon ;)
