Early Morning Spotted Bass Fly Fishing in Georgia on Allatoona lake

- Dave and I get on the lake at sunrise and spend the morning fly fishing for spotted bass. Allatoona in Northern Georgia holds mostly Alabama strain spotted bass along with largemouth bass, Striped bass or stripers, hybrid bass or wipers, crappie, catfish, sunfish or bream (bluegill and redbreast) carp and gar. It's not known as the best fishing lake in Georgia due to all the recreation boat activity, but if you can get some undisturbed water, it can fish well.
Dave fishes a Boogle bug. I stick with a two fly rig that was working well for me on a previous trip. It consists of a popper and dropper fly.
With this rig I fish a 12.5 foot 4wt switch rod overloaded with 5 wt line. My leader is a 9ft 4x and my dropper line is 5x or about 5lb test.
Dave fished an 8.5 foot 5wt and a 9 foot 8wt rod
