A mom has shared the wholesome moment her proud son gave an affirmative "Yes" when a judge asked him if he would like to be adopted by his stepdad, who has been his father figure all his life. Kaiden Duncan, 10, from Minnesota, has always had stepdad Phil in his life, as Phil and Kaiden's mom, Michaela, have known each other since middle school. Around the time Michaela became pregnant, she had moved towards a new crowd of people - including Phil - and the pair grew close, hanging out almost every day. Michaela and Phil would call each other best friends, until, one day, another couple told Michaela that Phil had feelings for her, and the two of them became an item. Growing up, Kaiden didn’t know Phil was not his biological father, until the couple decided to tell him when he was seven years old. Kaiden said he wanted to be adopted by Phil, and so the family went through what they said was a very long process.

That’s awesome. The name Father on the shirt is spelled wrong but maybe it’s supposed to b . Little man is so excited & happy to have him as his Dad. Takes more than sperm to be a Dad as my 33 year old granddaughter has said to everyone.

So many people are saying the same thing. They really look like they are blood related. I pray that you Mom and Dad will do everything in your power to keep you family together. There are no perfect families, just those that work hard and love each other. God bless you with every strength and resources and support that your sweet family needs. My children also have a bonus Dad and he made all the difference in the world in their lives. There were times I had to step back
and let him enforce consistency and consequences and it was hard. But I thank The Lord and so do they because he stepped up and made them hard working survivors. They flew the nest and they are thriving.

My Mom remarried when I was 8 and my step dad adopted 5 of us. He had never been married, they were in their 40s . He was our Dad. My real Dad didn't want us or our Mom . My step Dad became the only Dad I really knew . He gave us the best life ever! I'm 69 now and I miss my Dad and my Mom!

I officiated at a wedding 20 years ago. The wife had children from a previous marriage and their father was dead. There was a proceeding for the new husband to adopt the children. I was asked to provide a statement on the suitability of the adoption. I said, "It doesnt matter what the court says. After the wedding before anyone had a chance to leave for the reception, the 10 year old boy came up to me and said, 'Where's my Dad?!' He had the biggest grin on his face. I said I think the boy has already made the decision." The Interviewer thought the story was precious and agreed.

My stepdad was a better father than my bio dad. Also, stepdad was a better husband to my mom... stepdad was NOT a cheater, like dad was. We weren't the easiest kids, but stepdad stepped up... even had our backs when dad's wife, the kind of stepmother who gives evil stepmothers a bad name, stepped out of line. Dad didn't challenge her. Mom didn't. But Papa did and our stepmother must have known he was dead serious, because she stopped doing things to hurt and humiliate us in front of others. Stepma liked an audience when she was bullying a kid...and she was real good at exploiting the weaknesses of those smaller than herself as well as assessing which adults in the room would be too polite to interfere. Nobody got in her way before our stepfather did. When he put his foot down and laid down new rules for visitation and what was and wasn't appropriate to say to us(like NO more telling my elementary school age sister the "romantic" story of how she stole our dad from our mom and us, a tale she told whenever she got the chance) he was like a superhero. We never called him step dad though. He was Papa.
And he'll always be Papa. Death doesn't change that. Miss you, Papa.
