Great commentary and travel advice-more scenery would be good for couch travellers like me!Pleased you noted wheelchair friendly cabins, makes a huge difference for us.Thanks!
saw this ferry in seydisfjordur it was a day late and thousands were waiting to board. one of the most organized thing i had ever seen unloading and loading into a town of 600 people
We have just got back from The Faroe Islands by ferry. We were very lucky to have smooth waters both ways, absolutely loved it! And as for The Faroes……spectacular!
well travel to iceland by ferry can be tricky especially when it's not summer season. during the winter is not necessary that you even get to iceland (they only guarantee trip to faroe islands and you can't really book a ticket to seydisfjordur before around 3 days before departure (they will know by then if ferry comes there or not). love the refurbishment of it (have been on that ferry twice - 2008 and 2010). back then the playing slots were in open space so you could play it all day long (remember the girl who was around my age (i was 13 back then hit a big win)
I saw on the news articles (you shared about the storm) that you travelled in late September! Good to know :) We are planning on taking this ferry (IS to DK) in July. Thanks for the video!
@@Trainviking As far as I know, the idea is currently very much, well, put on ice and it's not even in any kind of concrete planning stage at the moment. Could still take decades if it wil be realized at all, apparently the geological and financial issues are quite huge.
Great video! We used to go to Iceland regularly before becoming flight-free and wonder what the footprint is of the whole journey including ferry comparing to flying? Really been missing Iceland lately :D
I would love it when they stop in Lewrwick again. I guess the Shetlands will be visited soon as well (actually too many things are happening now, but I want to plan a crazy.trip report weekend where I include the.Shetlands).
They sped up to arrive 10 hours early? Why isn't a faster speed used on a regular basis to reduce the overall travel time? Seems like the schedule is very heavily padded.
They calculated extra time for this, so it's possible to speed up. Also If you go fast, the usage of fuel is way higher compared to a slower speed. And at last, this time is calculated, just in case they mees to make a d tour, around a storm for example. I guess normally the ferry wil be ealier as well but customs will only be ready at a specific time.
Vlogger: "Weather was very extreme due to climate change" Faroese: "Yeah, we had great weather this trip. Barely a wave over 50 feet and only two people got blown overboard."
@@Trainviking I went in Summer (July) but still had the same Nth atlantic storm between Shetland Is and Faroe Is so even in Summer you are not guaranteed a "nice" voyage. i still thought it was a fantastic experience (and I went on to Iceland after 3 day stopover in Faroe Is)
Zoals ik in de video uitleg, is de reis iets anders gelopen dan verwacht en komt die voorlopig niet online. Misschien dat ik dit in de toekomst nog eens doe, want ik wil dat enorm graag online zetten.
Traveling from Britain to Iceland by small planeHi I would like to inquire about the shortest trip possible from Europe to America (preferably New York), as I would like to travel to America within two months. I never want to get on a plane. I will go from Jordan to a European country (according to your answer) and then travel by ship to America. How can you help me and what is the shortest and most suitable trip? I have a fear of planes so I have to travel by ship. Thank you so much
Honestly there is almost nothing possible that wat. You can travel on board of the Queen Mary cruiseliner from the UK, what is a kind of a ferry. Otherwise try to see if you can board a cargo ship on the crossing, most cargo ships do take passengers as well.
The weather in the video wasn't extreme, although I'm sure that the storm was extreme near the epicenter. I remember bigger storms from when I traveled with Norröna as a kid. The captain did a good job of avoiding the worst of the storm.
The storm was extreme indeed and I'm sure it's also related to this part of the world and the timing of the journey. However it's a fact that more extreme weather is happening more often now.
@@Trainviking It was extreme in the middle, but what you showed in the video was the mild outskirts that's normal weather for Norway, the Faero Islands, Iceland and the seas between us. The Netherlands like England is sheltered and you rarely see truly extreme weather. Yes, you saw extreme weather while on the Faero Islands, those news papers proves that, but you definitely didn't include anything that qualifies in the video. And yes, I'm fully aware of the climate changes. But that doesn't mean that we've never had rough weather before. And even when there's extreme weather the majority of the storm is still just what we're used to. The difference that climate change makes I'd making the storm bigger, making the center more intense, making the storms more intense increasing the amount of water that they carry, allowing them to cause more severe floods. As for Norrøna being designed for bad weather, that's true, but it's still a car ferry, and car ferries in general should avoid the very worst of what the Atlantic can offer (and has offered for decades) You don't want cars moving around in the hull.
I just copy the answer I gave on the previous 2 same questions I already have a video on those trains on the Alpen Express in 2019 / 2020 wintersport season, and probably I'll be taking them again soon or later. For the Erixx trains, maybe I'll feature that in a video in the future, however the main focus for this channel is to show you what it's like to travel on a more sustainable way of transportation for long distance and international journeys, local trains in Gwrmany that do not cross a border do in general not tick that box, but who knows what might happen in the future.

Nicely done and a really informative video. I’m thinking about doing this trip in the winter so this was very useful. Cheers TV! 👍
Thank you, it was very intetesting. I enjoyed your ferry experience and it was good to hear your views.
Glad you enjoyed the video, it's absolutely a great experience to be on this ferry.
How long in advance did you need to book and can you take the ferry in the winter alsow??
God instruktionsvideo! Jeg sætter pris på alle de detaljerede oplysninger. 😀
Great video! So helpful to see the ship tour in this way. Cannot wait for my trip!

July should be totally fine, of course there is never a 100% guarantee but I guess you should be fine.
Thanks for this! My wife and I are planning on taking the ferry later this year! Excellent coverage and commentary!!
Great trip, finally another trip report about Smyrill Lines Ferry, even though it's stopped at Torshavn due to bad weather.
It always makes a short stopover when you sail from Denmark to iceland

I miss when it visited Bergen...
We used to go to Iceland and the Faero Islands every second year or so to visit family...
Ooohh it's a great way to travel for this reason indeed. Also for that reason, taking your own car can be very convenient.
Leuke instructieve video! Ik ga eind april, met de auto, dit geeft een uitstekende indruk van wat we kunnen verwachten.
Great video, thank you, looks like an epic trip.
Thank you, it's really an epic trip to beautiful destinations.
Amazing! Adding this to my bucket list!
It's a great journey.

Thank you, great to hear that it's helpful to you.

Hahaha
Iceland is going to have a railway from the airport to Reykjavik but it will be some time before it is operational.
I thought this ideas has been cancelled and instead of the train, they've made the road bigger 😳. However I guess the idea isn't fully canceled yet.

I took the ferry in 1990 from Bergen to Iceland.

It’s at the end of the video, there I’ll explain it.

Ticket prices are very flexible, you can look this up best on the website, I'm mentioning in the video.
When is the best time to travel by that ferry for foreigner. Autum or spring
In general I would say spring & summer time. It's also good in autumn however the weather might be a bid wilder
