Absolutely love this song.
My number one b-side since the 90's. Gorgeous. The voices are so goooooood. It could have been on the album instead of some other ones which don't deserve it.
I’m so glad you loved my favorite Delta Machine B-side! It just draws you in on several levels: Dave’s luscious deep vocals, Martin’s beautiful voice in the background and the lyrics. It’s love at first listen!
There is a standalone track DM recorded and released in 2011 (between "Sounds of The Universe" and "Delta Machine" albums) - "So Cruel", which is a cover of U2 song and part of U2's tribute album.

My favourite B-side probably
I immediately knew this was a Dave tune (with Kurt Uenala) given the odd opening verse lyrics and the somewhat strange tonality.
The distorted bassline sounds like the non-distorted one from "Enjoy the Silence" and the ebow guitar lead in the chorus sounds a lot like the ebow guitar in the bridge and outro sections of "Walking In My Shoes."
I agree this song is better than many of the others that were included on the album.

It should be on Delta Machine album not on B side. Awesome song.
It has a classic Dark DM theme, different, but same in that familiar dark tone. This is what sets DM apart from other bands. Really resonates with me.

In case you directly move on to Spirit, please make sure to listen to the album audio version of „Going Backwards“. Although this was a single, there is no proper video version available with the original audio. The video that was released featured a live studio take on the song and has nothing to do with what you can hear on the album.

oh great that you liked it Seth, that song definitely should have been on the album along with the previous B-Side, I think that including its B-Sides, Delta Machine is a quite interesting album with several great moments, removing 2 or 3 songs, although That's what happens with all the albums, except for Playing the Angel, which I think is perfect in its entirety, and adding to the B-Side Newborn, which is another gem. well now they play the last two albums, which do not have B-Side. Spirit, along with Exciter, are probably the ones I like the least. Although I don't consider Spirit a bad album, I think it is the one that sounds dullest of all and no longer has innovative sounds or styles for the band from here on. Even so, his lyrics are good, but I need them to sound more interesting. Greetings and enjoy the following reactions
Can't get behind this one. Dave's lyrics are... up to his usual standard. What does this song even mean?
BTW everyone is mentioning So Cruel. There are several songs you haven't heard from their early gigging days. You wanna hear a different side to Depeche? You won't believe it! And even then the crowds went wild for them! The songs are Television Set, Addiction, Reason Man, Tomorrow's Dance, Price of Love, and I Like It. TV Set sometimes begins with a unique intro as they got on stage. There is also an unreleased demo called Radio News, with Andy playing bass!

Opener Going backwards, maybe the best
But in competition with all the other albums, Spirit has only three good tracks: GB, WTR and CM
I like Going Backwards, Cover Me, The Worst Crime and Fail. The rest of the album on the other hand, is a fail. :)

Frankly this one is better than half the album tracks i agree .maybe because the song sounds a little closer to classic Depeche.
Spot on. With Delta Machine i couldn't tell if Dave's songs were getting better, or Martin's songs were getting worse.

@@fabpoller1357 One can be a fan of the band and not like certain albums or songs ,if i am in the mood to listen to Depeche, no album from exciter on is tops in my rush to listen to, certain songs from them sure but as a whole the albums are not. I find not being able to criticize an artist for work they do starts creating things like Swifties and Little monsters where the line of fan and obsessed blurs. .
This is a sweet song. Interesting melody and sound, almost IDM in type. But the text... this is no way DM level. I like that Dave writes everything straight, but sometimes his rhymes just kill me with their naivety. Anyway, nice song. I love the sound. But interesting things are yet to come :)

It's a great song. But the demo is even better. It has slighly different lyrics too, but i think Dave's demoversion of this song is in my top 5 dm songs ever. It's just that good!!

Да, эта песня хорошая, меня припев тоже очень трогает - DAVEGAHANMOMENT. Ну, вот и весь Delta Machine от корки до корки: большой, сырой, необрезанный, местами душевный. Неплохой, но на мой взгляд слабее других.
Ну а дальше маленький и по большей части приятный альбом. На вторую песню хороший клип. By the way: this is the LAST b-side in their discography, now you have 25 songs (no instrumentals). After Spirit you may listen Heroes cover by Depeche Mode in memory of David Bowie - favourite Dave and Martin’s musician. This song was performed by Dave in 1980 when Vince Clarke one day noticed him. This cover is important part of Depeche Mode. Thank you for videos!
