1:18 - The song was released in 2011 and is a cover of U2. The video is from the It's No Good live projection from the Exciter Tour 2001. I wonder how you came up with the song. I haven't known the cover version for very long. It's more of an insider among Depeche Mode fans. 😉
Cover of a U2 song. It was actually Bono who contacted Depeche and asked if they wanted to do a cover of one of their songs. Martin said this in Q Magazine: Bono used reverse psychology in his email, saying he totally understood why we'd say no. We just thought, Why not? Bono's voice is not in this cover as mentioned in a comment below. It's Dave singing and I think it's only Dave and not Martin in the background either. Video has nothing to do with this cover. This was released in 2011 and is on the U2 tribute album called "AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered."
This is actually their cover of a U2 song, another band I love. It was for their tribute album. Btw thought I should mention, but Depeche Mode have been nominated in getting a star in the Hollywood walk of fame. So huge congrats to them!
I see you caved to the consistent request for this, haha! I am not sure when this cover came out but I love it. Dave's voice is so gorgeous. I would love to see you do more official videos before we get to Spirit!
This is my first time hearing this song. I also had not heard the original U2 version. It's failing to significantly grip me, but I do like the meaning you pulled out of the lyrics. "I gave you everything, but it wasn't what you wanted... No matter what I do, it's not quite good enough. What kind of relationship do you want?" (2:40) As soon as you said that my mind immediately jumped to the bi dude I was seeing years ago. I didn't believe that was a real thing until I met him. And didn't at first. It wasn't until I caught him checking out women that I knew it was so. When discussing his sexuality he said the most interesting thing to me - "It's all the same." I didn't understand what he meant for a long while because it was so far outside my experience. And even now it takes a real opening of the mind to imagine what it's like to inhabit that headspace. He made it clear from the start that he wasn't interested in a relationship with a man saying, "If it's a relationship to you and it's just hanging out to me, but we're both enjoying it, then I don't see an issue with that." So the "I gave you everything, but it wasn't what you wanted," bit resonated because I foolishly thought I could change his mind even though he told me from the start that it wasn't what he wanted. I wonder what this song means to Omar. He requested it in every posting you made for months, so it's got to hold something special for him. It was nice to see that he thanked you, but it would have been interesting to hear why this song is so meaningful to him. Did it hit a chord in you? Were you channeling a real experience?
I also see another comment about reacting to their cover of David Bowie's Heroes and it would be best to do this when you're done with Spirit -- they performed it during the Spirits tour and it was amazing. Also appropriate since Dave Bowie passed around the time Spirit was released,, of course Dave was brought into the band after the others heard him singing Heroes way back when. Fateful moment!
You hear this is not a Martin Gore composition from the 21st century. It could possibly have been an earlier Gore composition from the 1980s or so, but not a more recent one. - As many have already pointed out, the song is U2's. As with almost all artists, the creativity and ability for the little extra seems to flake off over time. New album, Spirit, next up, and new possibilities though...
I still prefer the U2 version , but it is a decent cover for sure. Good now we can stop certain people mentioning this in every song comment section now.
This video was made in 2001 for Exciter Tour. You may consider that it’s the second clip for It’s No Good. And some moments were cut where Dave thought about different funny things.
U2 song, released 2009? 10? 11?, for a tribute album by Q Magazine. The video is from 2001, so don't be thrown. Amazing vocal from Dave. This is a real treasure in their catalog.
This video clip has been used with all sorts of DM songs. Not sure of its origin. The song itself is not a bad U2 cover. I like a lot of U2’s 80s and 90s stuff.
Hi Seph, This is not DM. This is DM covering U2 (Achtung Baby). I think you can hear Bono singing in the background. Achtung Baby was also produced by Flood, just like Violator and SOFAD. I don’t know where you found those images.
Hi Seph, das Video gehört nicht zum Song So Cruel. Dieses Video stammt offiziell von der Exciter-Tour 'Live In Paris' 2001 zum Song It's No Good. Daher sieht die Band jünger aus 😅
Great reaction seph the tune is ok on this but could be more dm and the singing is too close to the original so didn't actually like the singing .not sure fun is a description i would use for spirit 😂 it's a harsh reality album 😮but still great once you get used to it. Needs a lot of listens
@@kev6333 Of course, I just wanted to make it clear that the piece had to be made different, or super electronic or acoustic, but not in this guise that does not taste of meat or fish, because it is without character.
Yes, you have missed it brother big time! You didn't even recognize that this was a cover of a famous U2 song. You should research the songs a little bit before you review them.
I find this cover version highly disappointing. Poor production, and it doesn’t add anything to the original song. Dave imitates Bono (unsuccessfully). Totally unnecessary.

The Star that money can buy, Not that they arent deserving but not as prestigious as some make it to be.
Love this track. Depeche covering one of U2s best tracks? Brilliant. Dave's voice from here on in gets better and better.
I’ve never heard this cover. The visuals originally accompanied Its No Good on a DM tour.

U2 Cover. Dave has an amazing voice!!!
Muchas Gracias amigo
DEPECHE MODE SO CRUEL.
SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO
Come on, Seph. While it is still fresh and you begin another album, you gotta start the One Night in Paris concert!
Im going to hit up all the concerts after I've finished the albums 😍 also gonna be throwing in some interviews and such 😋
@SephPlays I really recommend the documentaries for each album of the remastered. You'll get a lot of info in regards to everything.
@@enriquegutierrezjr4710 They are definitely already on my list 📃😍
Check out there cover of David Bowie heroes
👍👍
Heroes cover by Dave is a masterpiece

I read that Dave bursted into tears when he heard that David Bowie died.
Bowie was very important for him.

Dang, was waiting for spirit album 😅
One of my favorite post Alan era Depeche tracks
I never heard the original rendition from U2. This is the only version I ever listened to and it's perfect.
Like this very mutch😊👏

I haven’t noticed that, so I must do this as tradition:

Depeche Mode “FIXED” the song with their version. The original version by U2 is not that good.
è più bella la versione originale, potevano farla più acustica...o magari più elettronica, ma questa sembra semplicemente un remix venuto così così...
They are an electronic band so that would be pointless as it would be the same as the horrible original

You will love Going Backwards from Spirit, its the first track👍 I'm sure that ending part will blow your mind!
The first single was Where's The Revolution, Going Backward 2.
@@Doreen3003 absolutely ofcourse I was thinking about first track not single! :)
