    I work in the restoration industry and also fix houses. In this size range the Rebar for me is the best multi tool I’ve ever used. In my opinion the plier heads on the Rebar are better than the free series for serious work. The Arc looks like a great tool for EDC and light work. But if you are doing heavier work I’d go with the Rebar, Surge, or Super Tool 300. My wave fell apart on me in a month

      working in a similar job (commercial maintenance) I've become a fan of the Rebar/ST300, kinda subjective but they both "feel" as though I can count on them compared to the P4 I was walking around with

      Same for me FDE Rebar is my perfect every day carry and ST300 when heavy duty work requires it. Arc seems like a swing and a miss, plagued with problems.

    Victorinox mx clip is on par or even better. Robust build and quality control, ergonomic handle, very high rust resistance, chisel, package opener, better can opener, longer Philip driver, shiny finish, no big hole on file.

    I’m absolutely surprised that you did not include Gerber’s Multi-Plier 800 Legend. Not sure if it or the Surge was the first to have a replaceable saw, but it was designed to have easy access to the all the tools on the outside of the knife. I have always particularly liked the locking mechanism on it and the other Gerber multi-pliers. If it had a better blade steel on it and a straighter handle, I would have gotten it again instead of the Arc. That said, I absolutely love my Arc. I also bought a GOAT. Truly regret buying it.

      I thought about the Legend but it's a bit heavier that the Center Drive and I feel like my Center Drive is built tougher. It does have a good tool set. If the MP1 was still made that probably would have been closest to the Arc.

    £260 in uk… may still buy it… want to see if the wire cutters issue is fixed first. I have Surge and Rebar and love them both. Rebar used daily. Also have Vicrorinox swisstool and Champ, Gerber 600 mp, dual force and Suspension. I like them all and all have got me out of a pinch.

  • @simonh6371

    The Arc isn't that expensive in the UK. Current price from LM or other suppliers is £260 which equates to $325. I think the 400-500 pricepoint you mentioned would be Australian dollars, $500 Aus comes out at $325 US as well.
    However Vic Swisstool Spirit MX pocket clip (the one with one handed opening blade and scissors) can be had normally for £160 or on sale at the moment for £140 so I think if I were looking to buy a good multitool that would be a better option, for me anyway.

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  5 місяців тому +1

      @clarkkent4608 That's a hard question because both are great tools. The Leatherman tool line has issues with heir replaceable cutters current design being worse than the previous design. Even so I like the fidget factor of the Arc. I like the bit driver and the micro bit driver. I think even with some negatives I would pick the Arc. Keep in mind probably the Victorinox may last longer and be tougher, even more comfortable. The Leatherman Arc is a fairly special engineered tool though even with it's flaws.
      So while I would probably say the Victorinox is the wiser choice, I would still pick the Arc because it is more customizable.

    I really want a LM Arc, but I do live one of those places where its about the equalent of $450 (for reference the Surge is about 150). Thing is, I dont need one. I just really want it.
    I do love multitools and when you dont have anything else, they are absolute life savers. I usually carry a small one every day, but I very rarely ever use them. In 99% of cases I either already have the proper tool for a job with me, or would rather go over and get it. That makes the 450 bucks for a multitool upgrade very hard to justify, even when the magnacut blade could probably replace a pocket knife entirely. Also the only thing I think i'd miss would be the t-shank holder from the surge, that thing is awesome.
    But oh well, maybe one day when it drops in price.

    I'm not so sure about that since the last ALIEXPRESS adventure. 😂 I ordered the new SwissTech 18 in 1 with the stone wash finish and precision screwdriver. I got literally scammed. All the screws were butchered, heat treatment is non existent, everything loosened after a week. I had to completely disassemble and wash the metal powder off. Than re organise the washsers to stiffen up the plier as much as I can. Spent two hours with trial and error to reach a 10 year old beaten up Leatherman Wave level. At least now looks like a multitool..... I don't recommend it anymore because no QC. Maybe yours perfect mine is trash.

    A tool with magnets will perform bad in an industrial environement. The only upside is that most heavy industry workshops have some source of compressed air to clean the tool. But lets be fair, thats a collector's tool.
