As a Coptic Christian born in Egypt, as the majority of Coptic Christians are, I would be on this "Muslim registry". Not that this makes it any more of a stupid idea than it already was to begin with, but just another reason why it's ridiculous.
Most American Arabs are Christians, large majority of them from Lebanese Maronite backgrounds... descended from people trying to escape the crazy Muslims of their former countries. The US also has a large number of Assyrians, Copts, Mizrahi Jews, Mandaeans, Zoroastrianists ....descended from population groups in the region harassed/disenfranchised by Muslims. Islam isn't good with multi-culturalism....it's not bigotry to be supremely skeptical of people who come from nations/cultures that relegate, regularly harass and disenfranchise religious minorities in their own nations. Pluralism, tolerance, multi-culturalism are not a part of their tribal existence. Western Countries should be wary of people who seem incapable of forming non-theocratic nations tolerant of religious/ethnic minorities.
So then how does it make sense to label everybody from an Arabic-speaking country as Muslim regardless of their religion?
