I'd never noticed how similar the baseline is to Walk on the Wild Side. But putting it on a stand-up and it kind of jumps right out at you.

Nice cover but the original is perfect , reed totally captured the mood. Sunday morning is one of the saddest songs ever written of regret and the inevitable passing of time and youth.
@@scottconnors7875 Try the Velvet Underground's 2010 remastered version. I love that one, the emotion comes through more strongly because the music is even more perfect, less of what comes across in the original as "that intrusive tinkly stuff."

Stipe has a wonderfully supple and sensitive voice, as always. This production and arrangement (choir, keyboard, et al.) does both the song and Stipe a disservice. Strip away the glop, keep the great long dissonant oboe and other subtly discordant elements, convey the twinkle in another way and destrangle the whole affair. What a waste this is.
Maybe it's because the original is perfect...this is just unnecessary.
Seemingly almost everyone on this tribute LP are trying their upmost best to butcher the songs. I for my taste will stick to the originals, or listen to John Cale's renditions, which are far more pleasing than these "murdered" covers.
