In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

Love the idea that Alex had to practice this many times to ensure he did it the same speed consistently.
"Ivo, do you think there's something you did that sabotaged your attempt a little?"
"Narrow it down."
i love this task because the best strategy was take 10 penalties and just watch the clock for a couple minutes
If it was Rhod Gilbert, he probably would have done that
10 penalties is 1:40 min, you would get 3rd place you know that right? lol
@@sonikblade you don’t have to read my entire comment, that’s cool too I guess.
@@sonikbladeif alex took exactly 3mins to do everything if you stop at 1:20 and do nothing, the penalties will bring uou to exactly 3mins
@@sonikblade Noooo. The others took LONGER. So they where on the - . You woulf have been FASTER then alex
Can we just take a moment to consider how impressive it is that Alex managed to get it to a perfect zero, without watching the clock, every single time? Every single portion is timed identically, perfectly. Guy's like a robot. I mean, I get that he probably practiced quite a bit, but still.
He didn't though, at least once he got down to -14 seconds. you can see it at 10:31
@@MrEatSomeBrains That's actually -0.14 seconds
oh that's brilliant design!
If you didn't eat the banana it wouldn't go into the vaseline. If you didn't sharpen the pencil you can't do math and pop the balloon. If you didn't do math you can't open the box and the vaseline would get in your way.
And if you didn't inflate the balloon you couldn't make the dog or pop it!
Or you could see "MATHS", count the items, guess the number of tasks adding a couple for reusing items, multiply by 10 second penalties and do nothing. Win by doing MATHS
And if you didn’t do any of it and stared at the clock for about a minute and accumulate all the penalties you’d finish with the same time as Alex
"I'm not great when I'm under pressure... or, when I'm not" Frankie's the best
E
ivo getting 4 points despite practically blinding himself is pretty impressive
should have just hit the button right away each time while watching Alex make a fool of himself
If you timed it right and finished with 1:40 left, with a 10 point penalty for each of the 10 tasks, you would finish at 0:00 and match Alex exactly.
@@ringtyler you wouldn't know the exact number of tasks but you could just take 10 seconds longer than alex on doing nothing but watching the clock
@@ringtyler
10 seconds are added for not completing an activity, not subtracted. You'd need to take long enough for the clock to count down into the negatives.
I feel like the idea is it takes 4 minutes to do the things so when Alex hits the button on 0 you know it's the last task so you can just wait it out, no?
@@Shadowmech88 Actually, ten seconds are added to the _absolute value_ of the difference between your time and Alex's "zero", so the minimum time you could get would be 1 minute 40 seconds if you stopped your clock at zero. Not the worst result, but you wouldn't be able to go lower.
alex getting to the 'or gone right' line just ahead of Greg.... you can see Greg having to shift his joke into something else , instead of berating alex like he clearly wanted to 🤣
"I think something horrible happens" "yesitdoes"
Disappointed no one “copied Alex” by also putting their rubber bands on his face
That would be rich!
If only Rhod Gilbert was there
Ivo and Kiell in particular are rocking the Sgt. Pepper’s outfits
...and Mae
actually pretty sure its everyone but Frankie 😂
Omg. That music gives me flash backs to series 12 where they had to copy Alex's "dance moves" in the church. Lol
Simple math, isn't it? Start doing whatever Alex was doing (so you don't get disqualified) but stop 10 seconds earlier than he did.
As we saw, most contestants struggle at simple maths
I quickly went to "oh, that's just (20-2) x 368, so I just need to make 368x2 and subtract it from ten times it".
Theoretically, that would go "368x2=736 and then 7360-736 = 6624" fairly fast.
...In practice, I struggled a bit at 368x2 and then paralyzed at doing subtraction the school way, lol. =P
I think you misunderstand the point of a panel show
If you want to get disqualified, sure go ahead
@@woroGaming lol nah this show likes when people find a work around to the tasks given as its entertaining, they totally would've allowed it
Love the sergeant pepper outfits
They should have just taken the L and ten seconds on every action and they easily could have matched his time.
that would've made for such great tv
I thought of this AFTER watching the clip, which means there's no way in heck that I would have thought of it under pressure.
However, I DID think of "hey, they can steal the button before the task starts, and not let Alex push it!" - that might have gotten me some time to think of something more clever.
I'm pretty sure the ten seconds were added after the initial difference was calculated. Since all of them were in negative numbers it actually would have helped them otherwise.
@@traveller23e But then its just about calculating isent it? So you see how many tasks there is, lets say 10 tasks thats 100 seconds penalty. And if alex ends on 0 seconds then you just gotta stop the clock on 100 seconds and you win are even points.
Even if they matched his time, if they didn't replicate his actions I don't think they would have won
Luckily no one wasn't a fan of bananas. I'd have faltered right off the bat
I'm assuming before they even start planning the tasks, they ask each contestant if they have any allergies or aversions to anything.
@@needamuffin Although one of contestants did later reveal that they had a watermelon allergy after a task to consume a watermelon the fastest
@@JonasHamill Josh Widdicombe was joking I believe. However, Joe Wilkinson was legit allergic to bananas which ended up getting him disqualified in a live task when he didn't eat it
@@needamuffinI believe there was an egg involved with a vegan participant if I remember correctly.
@@LaLa-pz6ihYes, that was Lee Mack.
I’ve truly never watched a show that has made me laugh out loud to the point of tears as much as this. Taskmaster is freaking brilliant. ,
The hesitation as Alex goes to shake the hand at the end 🤣
Good to see divorced dad and weekend son do well.
Just hit the clock 10 seconds shorter than Alex does and you always match his time exactly unless he completes a task in under 10 seconds.
This is the kind of obvious genius we'd see in early seasons. We need smarter contestants
At first I was thinking it would be easy to exactly match the time by just purposely taking the penalty for each task and not doing them, but seeing as some tasks were less then 10 seconds I would have struggled adjusting it properly after the first few. Although I'm just realizing I could just press the button immediately each time and then let the clock run down to the time needed adjusted to the penalties at the last task.
Jenny constantly made me laugh during this series, yet it feels like she never gave Alex a thrashing. And it sure felt like he earned it during this series with her!
When does this crossover into bullying?
@@redelfshotthefood8213 Not this particular task, but there are so many where it feels like she's a step or two removed from hitting Alex because either the task frustrates her so much, or he does. It's funny.
I found her to be one of the most annoying contestant.
Grian informed me of this show
Reminds me a lot of the copy Alex task from S12.
It's the same music!
It's the same music, which helps.
It sounds like a tribute to me, with the music
Great show!
Anyone else do the “copy Alex” dance
8:40 Alex breaking character
The hack would have been do the easier stuff super fast. Like the banana and the pencil. Then take the hit on the math and the box ballon and popping, the winks, that’s only 50 seconds, plus the maybe 10 for the banana and pencil.
Then you can complete the rest under 30 seconds and win
Deep Horne!
I think the hidden joke is " most of the things but I will start with the vaseline"😂
😂😂😂😂😂 I have not laughed this hard this week.
Great video.
Just hit the clock 9 times and wait until it goes to -1:40
Then hit it one last time without doing any if the tasks and then every 10 seconds is added. Since there is 10 tasks its 100 secs added which will = to 0 making you tie
Not telling what he was going to do would have been far more hilarious. That’s what happened in my country, and they didn’t know why the guy was winking (and even less that there was a specific number of winks). And you can sort out how the rest went on… 😂 This was one of my favorite tasks!
Am I the only one who noticed that the task said "Task starts after Alex presses HIS button?" He pressed OUR button before eating the banana, and HIS button after. SO we didn't even need to eat it. We just needed the peel. And there were 9 tasks when it between when it ACTUALLY started and ended.
"we haven't started yet"
A nightmare task. Do the weird things you often don't know how to do, in exactly the same timeframe as someone who has practiced doing them. The stuff of nightmares!!!
When did Rob Beckett get a teeth deduction? He looks great.
It was 4-ish years ago.
During or just after lockdown (maybe just before)
So idk if anyone else has pointed it out yet but Alex always started the opposite timer first. Then it was all on his after that. Causing him to be faster each time.
why is it so hard for all of them to do 18 x 368?? 😭😭
I love thinking they have 4 of every prop ever used just cuz someone like Frankie would destroy it 😂
The Vaseline covered balloon looked a bit indecent
Grian
I thought somebody would only blow up the baloon and say "I made a dog. It's a hot dog!"
If you don’t do anything he does, press the button immediately and take the 10 sec penalty for each task, you actually just beat his time by like 1:10-1:20 depending how fast you click the button.
I was horrified at "im gonna pop my dog".
I would of refused to continue participating and just took the loss at that point.
In my head, I would've done this task like Mae or Kiell, but irl I'd be more like Ivo w/ a little bit of Jenny sprinkled in
Fun fact, if someone had done 0 of the tasks, and even taken 5 seconds to hit the timer right after Alex did. Between the 10 times taking 5 seconds to hit the timer and the 100 seconds added for failing all 10 tasks. They would have ended up having a time 1min 30sec shorter then Alex and would have won.
Where's the new season at?? AU and NZ wish they were Taskmaster OG
now i wanna listen to some 40winks
"If you do not complete an activity, 10 second will be added to your time."
So to win this task, you just wait without doing anything until your time is 10 seconds below Alex' per task completed and press the button.
Closest timer wins. So just commandeer the timer, and dont lrt Alex touch it.
if I tried that math problem I would not be able to solve it at all 😂
Steal Alex's and copy...
❤❤😂😂😅😅😊😊you all are such lovely people to share ur days with the world
Love Alex ❤
Alex took about 4 minutes each time. Am I wrong in thinking the solution is just pressing the button every time immediately, then waiting a bit when you're using the last few items, because no, they don't know how many turns they're taking, but you'd surely think when you're out of stuff you'll be done? then just have a time faster than Alex + your penalty would bring you very close. Or at least do the easy tasks quick, then mash the button later
We have the luxury of not being filmed, no time pressure, and no expectation what we will come up with will be entertaining to millions of viewers...
@@redelfshotthefood8213 Yeah, I get what you mean. I'm not calling them stupid or anything, or saying they're wrong for trying to do the task the intended way, something far more entertaining to watch than my suggestion.
Just pointing out what seems like a loophole. Several contestants have come up with far more clever solutions than this while being timed.
That's pretty much the best way to do it. If you make the reasonable assumption that Alex was going to finish the last task when his struck 0:00, you could press the timer immediately and keep track of the number of penalties. Alex didn't take the same amount of time for each task, but he did take more than 10 seconds on average.
I figured that out when watching it live, but that's different from being in the lab with cameras on you.
I was thinking that, especially after Alex said "you could just take the hit and press a button" during one of the attempts. But as others have said, hindsight is 20/20. Though I was half expecting Frankie to take that strategy purely because he didn't care.
Yea, assuming there were no turns under 10 seconds, you could just take every hit, but make sure to do it 10 seconds earlier each time, so after the second turn you are 20 seconds ahead of alex, and 30 after the third turn etc. that way you would be very likely to stop on time. Knowing this would be possible is hard in advance though, as alex could just end it with 2 or 3 short turns, which would have ruined the tactic
Might have been faster if they didn't do any of the tasks, and just took the 10sec penalty for each one.
We need the opposite of this. Alex must do what you do, fastest to get him to refuse wins.
math can be simplified to be solvable in half a minute at most even if you suck at math, like i do. 10x368 is obv 3680, then do 3x8, 6x8, 8x8. and add the zeroes. so 2400, 480, 64. add those together, then add that to 3680, and you get 6624. no matter how shit you are at math that goes fast to calculate
Blocking out the product name, then using it repeatedly seems rather redundant. Vaseline is the brand name.
True but it's also in the popular lexicon, somewhat like "google"
@@traveller23eyes, and Kleenex (at least here in the states)
I really like The Beatles outfits
The strategy is when alex start the timer you jump in front of him and make him lose all his remaining time by doing something silly (like stealing all his items and running away) and them you come back 4 minutes later or when you see that he gave up and is going to stop the clock. Worst case scenario you get -30sec penalties for he just being able to do 3 actions or even less.
WORST WORST case scenario you get removed from the show lol
It's interesting that Jenny was the only one to become prettier after the rubber band treatment.
Just do nothing. Most of the tasks take longer than 10s
what a thrilling watch that would've been
Wouldn't doing nothing get them disqualified? The task explicitly says to copy Alex. Not copying Alex would result in disqualification.
@HOTD108_ just start the task then stop and press the button 10s before alex did. U end on 4 mins
@@HOTD108_
No, not copying Alex would result in a penalty, not a DQ.
I can't help but think that you would be better off just hitting the button immediately, count the number of tasks, multiply by 10 and then just leave that amount of time on the clock after Alex's clock hit zero.
You could but then you'd probably get blasted and get penalized for being cheeky
@@mathiasrryba I mean, people finding loopholes like that is what makes taskmaster the most entertaining. It wouldn't surprise me if Alex made that loophole hoping someone would use it.
Id fail this challenge, bananas are disgusting
I see Frankie, I click
This was such a good task! The rubber bands had me cracking up
I tried myself and solve 18*368 for 38 seconds. Not too bad as i thiought.
So, Alex ate 5 bananas for lunch ?
10:40
Kinda sad that none of the contestants understood that the real task was to do the same things Alex was doing *while* he was doing them.
No, Alex says it's like chess; you don't move your pieces at the same time
I'm not sure how that would count. They might choose to penalize that 10 seconds as you didn't complete them during the time specified.
The real key was to immediately press the button saying that you've completed the task even though you haven't. You'll get a 10 second penalty, which is less than most of the tasks took to complete.
Then, before completing or not completing the last task, you'd need to wait so that your time, plus your penalties, aligned with Alex. E.g., if you had 10 penalties, press the timer when it said 1:40. That would require you to know that you'd know which was the last task.
@@homeiswonderland @deepowls Heheh you guys are quite correct. I was arguing that the card says "immediately after he does it", and that the card does not in fact mention the chess explanation, so... allegedly... we could just start it right away.
But that's not the best part!
The best part of my plan is: I'd actually bomb my time to last place, lol!!! 😂
The rules say time closest to Alex's wins, not that less time wins. My devious plan would actually make Alex's final time 0 seconds (as he trained beforehand to precisely use the full 4 minutes), while my own clock would be near the starting time of 4 minutes (supposing I did mimic him near perfectly), making me the second furthest away from Alex's time, lol (I'd only win to Jenny's -8:50 clock).
I love TM fans, ha. I was also confused by the "immediately after he does it" line. Not the most well-written task, but I think it's one of those where Alex would rather you follow the spirit of the task, than be clever.
Scallywags are so weird😭
I'm curious what your score would be if you didn't do any of them & just took the ten second penalty.
If you take the 10 second each task route, you still have 1 min 20 seconds left (or 1:20 faster, you might win among this group if that was considered and the producers (well, or Greg if he wanted) wont penalize you for going that route) Which is quite far. But you can do some of the things, but you wouldnt know if you really have to do it since the task is in order.
If the Task starts when Alex pushed the button, couldn't you have mirrored him and push the button immediately after to stop the timer?
nope
Yup. Best way to, but to according to many of the comments, that is not entertaining. I however think if one contestant did that, it would be far more entertaining.
easiest win would have been to just press the button and not do any copying at all. plenty of time on the clock and the penalty wouldn't take you below 0
The funny thing is you dident actually need to do everything exactly as alex did you just need to make sure your time is closes to his so if you skipped one or two exercises, take into account you get the +10sec penalty's all u need to do is do everything in 4 min exactly

You mean Alex? Because he is a source of conflict to introduce interest in the show...
Who are these people? Are they famous or just random people?
They're comedians
As soon as Alex presses the button - you do it, then you would have done what he did
This is the second time watching a video of this… wtf is this show? Is this what improv kids do when theyre older? Do i not understand this because im Canadian? Why is this show so confusing?
Alex Horne is very clever for coming up with a series that is so addictive, but I'm kinda with Greg in terms of how off-putting and irritating his sense of humour is at times.
Raise your hand if you're here because of Grian! ✋
Why do I feel like the meta way to do this is to just count how long it takes Alex to do something, then just not do the task and press the button 10 seconds before his time?
