English Translation:
Listen, smith of the heavens, what the poet asks.
May softly come unto me your mercy.
So I call on thee, for you have created me.
I am thy servant, you are my Lord.
God, I call on thee to heal me.
Remember me, mild one, Most we need thee.
Drive out, O king of suns, generous and great,
every human sorrow from the city of the heart.
Watch over me, mild one, Most we need thee,
truly every moment in the world of men.
send us, son of the virgin, good causes,
all aid is from thee, in my heart.
As a muslim, sometimes i come here and listen this masterpiece. Greetings to Christian brothers and sisters. May Allah bless us all.
inshallah, brother
My dear, Jesus Is The Way, The Truth and The Life. Read the gospel of John, get to know who Jesus really is. May your eyes open and The Truth set you free. God bless.

Icelandic language is always underrated, not only by other nations but Icelanders too. Their tongue is a living piece of history and I would hate to see it disappear. Beauty created and contained within borders set by the North Sea.
thanks i'm Icelandic very proud of my heritage
Muy buenas noches, saludos 👋🏼 desde la Occidental Republic of Ecuador 🇪🇨 in South Amerika 🙂 12-07-2022
I'm an Icelander and I am so very proud of our beautiful language, heritige and of our most hardy ancestors who through the grace of God survived the worst of conditions so that I can stand here in my beautiful fatherland and proudly say "I'm Icelandic".
As a Christian, a priest, and someone who absolutely loves beautiful music, this is utterly gorgeous. Whether or not one is religious, this is music for the soul.
It is.
On the other hand, just for a little possibly disappointing backstory - it's written by a chieftain who died after fighting with a bishop over who should be allowed to appoint bishops. So well in line with the whole investiture problem on the continent, back in the 12th or 13th century.
I'm not sure if he composed before the battle with the bishop or after; considering how repentant it is, and how the poet is asking his wounds be healed, I'm leaning towards the idea that it's after the battle (he was wounded by a rock to the head, and died a few days after).
without a doubt
já, it is indeed a blessed song, the only critic i have is we arent listening very well to the original icelandic lyrics. the rest is definitelly a glorious expression of icelandic devotion.
@@orsteinnthorarensen1230 Interesante y triste por lo que le pasó a ese hombre. ELOI lo tenga en su Reino.
Thank you again for posting this beautiful Islantic hymns! As a decendant of Island's people.
I am not what most people would call a “religious” man but, I listen to this hymn therapeutically. It never fails to calm me down and make me feel as if I am connected to something greater than myself. Funny thing.
Funny thing it is
People who FEEL music are on a deeper level than most
im feeling the same tbh ... not religious at all but this song is just awesome ... but old songs sung in a cappella choirs are always amazing ... im a musician myself and feel very connected to all kinds of music since i was a teenager and this kinda stuff gives me goosebumps every time ♪♫♪
If it helps, the guy who wrote this poem/psalm, he made the words on his deathbed, having been grievously wounded in battle.
Fighting a Bishop, of course, over who should have the rights to decide who should become a priest (aligning with the investiture problems on the continent).
I’m a newly born Christian, and this song makes me weep 😭
I imagine this is what the angels sing in heaven
You can really FEEL this music in a deeper spiritual level… Simply divine….
As someone who practices Christianity, I love this.
I can hear from this hynm, He is an awesome God.
We should never forget about our Christian roots nor loose our faith. Absolutely touching.
Nor our Pagan roots either.
This hymn ist were both roots Connect, i searched For this
Close your eyes, listen deeply to this song and you get it correct when your ears begin to prick your eyes as goosebumps run down your arms. Perfect.
The most beautiful song ever
Just feeling humble listening. Thx 😭🌟🙏🏻💎

800 year old poem set to music.
It's a hymn, not a poem.... So it is already music.
You are correct Pete, this is an 800 year old poem set to music.
I know because “Heyr Himna Smiður” was written by my 20x great uncle, Kolbeinn Tumason, in 1208.
As for the music it was composed by a distant (9th) cousin, Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson, in 1973.

@@joninelkolbinson4936 Icelandic music is really astonishing I must say. I started listening to the pieces of Hildur Guðnadóttir and then I came to know about this beautiful Hymn. Also I discovered singer Ellen Kristjánsdóttir. She has a divine voice to be honest. Absolutely mesmerizing. I am not religious but I love the strange inner feeling of peace Icelandic music gives me. We indians have a rich diversity in music and musical instruments, but I am glad I discovered this beautiful country's fascinating culture and musical sense. Respect to your 20x great uncle from me :)
Mjög falleg tónlist!
The fact that this melody is one of the first brings me joy to being human

I want this played at my memorial.
Jesus is the only one who can inspire this... you don't want to name him... but honey, JESUS is Lord, was and will be forever
HALLELUYAH!
@John Byatt: as a non religious, still we are humans. One can find the "smiths of heaven" inside. Much easier to find them inside than in the sky. :)
Jesus is always waiting for you with open arms! He loves you like his child. But he also gave you free will to choose.

Did Kolbeinn Tumason also write the music or just the text?
