This was the epitome of TV action in its time, I used to wait with anticipation every week for this show and I wasn’t a kid 😂. They did such a great job, especially given the special effects that were available at the time.
That was intentional by the producer Rob Johnson. Never wanted Hulk to actually use his fists on anyone. I think the closest he came was the Married episode when he shoves/punches one of the party guys into the bathroom
Notice that they ALWAYS made sure to show them landing on something soft enough to not do permanent damage. They always made sure to SHOW that the person was not badly hurt.
For me that is the awesome part of Lou's body building, watching him throw around stunt doubles as the Hulk. Punching is no fun when you have three times the strength of a regular man. When I was in my 20s and thirties I spent 6 days a week lifting for almost two hours each day. Seeing Lou Ferrigno show case his strength was best part of the The Incredible Hulk TV show.

You know I'm amazed that back in the 60s, marvel managed to skate around the comics code authority in how the US Army could not be represented in a negative light and the big guys most prevailant opponent was always the military. Seeing big Lou here take on a tank was bad ass! This was the hulk that we know from the comics before the CGI and it's just as impressive.

I agree love the hulk, only thing I'd say he doesn't really have 'super powers', as in Superman or Spiderman etc, he's just immensely strong, but yes he's my favourite.
The thumbnail looks like the 2003 Hulk fighting the tanks. I also like how to Hulk breaks the gun with his hands because. The Hulk did that in the one the first comics when Igor was stealing Bruce banner's formula.
Best series of my childhood growing up. I read the comics to it and especially when David changed it was the best part of it. If they did a remake of the series, it definitely won't be the same in this century. Its better off as it was when i was growing up.

This and the Prometheus episode was about as close as the TV Hulk ever got to battle the military like his comic book origins. The movies then had him doing this. It’s like an M Night Shyamalan version of Hulk. In Glass the big comic book fight took place in a car park rather than a big city, one car was damaged rather than lots. David Dunn bent the steel pipe to cage the riot Police. Very similar to the situations the TV Hulk got involved in.

Unlike his comics counterpart, this version of the Hulk isn't bulletproof. I remember him getting shot on the show as a kid and thinking, "Wait...that's not right..."
In this particular episode the healing factor saved him. Banner and others were affected by a biological weapon which caused blindness. Banner figured out that it worked by slowing the subject's metabolism and a cure would involve accelerating the metabolism to counter it. This enabled scientists to administer a cure for the others. Banner didn't get it but fortunately he had his own built-in metabolism accelerator.
The show was never built around the comic book version. The director and bixby wouldn't have made the show. So they decided to make it more realistic which ultimately made the show a classic.
Man growing up watching this show one thing I always wondered about is just how many shirts,jeans and boots David went through everytime he Hulked out.

That was the whole premise of the show, that the Army was testing a gas that caused blindness. David is exposed to the gas earlier in the episode and it took transforming into the Hulk for his vision to be healed.

But David had already discovered before his second Hulk-out that briefly heightening one's metabolism would reverse the process, and so was able to find a way to cure him as well without his having to become another Hulk.
I know one other Marvel character we won't get live action till NetFlix was Banner's cousin Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk they even have the character of Bruce Banner aka the Hulk from the Avengers in it.
If Jack McGee was involved in this adventure he would be surprised to see the Hulk fight the United States Army, but he would tell them that he needs the creature alive.
They never did explain how when he transforms into the Hulk, he destroys all his clothing but somehow the waist of his pants stays intact. Of course, if he more realistically burst the waist of his pants when he transformed, we would have an X-rated Hulk show.
Just watching this scene seeing the Hulk go up against an Army tank brings back memories of what happened in the movie with Eric Bana where the Hulk grabbed hold of the tank barrel and bent it only in this version he bent it downwards towards the ground instead of where the Tank commander sat and I'm betting this episode is where they got that idea for the movie HULK with Eric Bana and Sam Elliot.
This was in the late 70s, early 80s, no CGI crap like we have today, i always love that theme when Bill Bixby has those green contacts to turn into the Hulk, such a classic!

The only people who will say this Hulk is better are people who watched the series as a kid and because of that have nostalgia towards it. Rose-tinted glasses. You can literally tell this Hulk is just a 6'5 dude in green paint and the scenes where he shows his strength are mediocre at best because they simply didn't have the technology back then to make him seem like an actual freak of nature.

Lol... You can see that's its exhaust tubing for a barrel as its got those ripples in the bend and for a moment, you can see exhaust clamps holding the barrel in place. I probably watched this back in the 80s and i never missed an episode. The hulk was my favorite.
I also noticed the green "booties" he was wearing as he pushed back the tank. I can imagine it would have been hard on Lou's feet walking around on a dirt road so I can appreciate why he wore them; it just would have been nice if they used some makeup to better conceal them.

I grew up watching the live action Incredible Hulk series and the cartoon series and I too wish they could have put the character of General Ross in the live action series with Bill Bixby or at least someone in the series that was close to the character even though sadly everyone knows we won't get anything live action with the character of General Ross till the 2 live action movies with Eric Bana and Edward Norton came out.
I loved this show when i ws a kid and i still love it ! I got all 5 seasons,plus the ultimate tv collection,and 2 of the tv movies ! Of course i dont hve the last one that one wss depressing !
I totally agree, the strength feats shown in your listed episodes were some of the most incredible feats of the entire series. I would also add in the pressure chamber escape scene from the pilot.

I grew up watching the live action Incredible Hulk series and the cartoon series and I too wish they could have put the character of General Ross in the live action series with Bill Bixby or at least someone in the series that was close to the character even though sadly everyone knows we won't get anything live action with the character of General Ross till the 2 live action movies with Eric Bana and Edward Norton came out.

I loved this show when i ws a kid and i still love it ! I got all 5 seasons,plus the ultimate tv collection,and 2 of the tv movies ! Of course i dont hve the last one that one wss depressing !

I totally agree, the strength feats shown in your listed episodes were some of the most incredible feats of the entire series. I would also add in the pressure chamber escape scene from the pilot.
