This is Hulk as a toddler. All rage and emotion. The beginning of his life. You expect him never to grow, never to learn, but that is an unreasonable expectation for a fledgling god.
When this movie came out, I remember there was a lot of people kinda hating on the CGI and stuff. Now when I look at it, it's a great movie compared to some of the trash we get these days. Weird how time changes things.
Did you notice the bullets causing ripples as they hit his skin? This movie takes a lot of stick, but apart from a few comic-bookish frames and cuts it was actually very good. I never understood why it got panned so badly, as no one has been able to point out a scene of bad writing, or poorly thought out action. I will say I didn't like the hulked-out dogs...TOO cartoonish and the CGI is what it is from that era. Not PERFECT, but pretty damn good. The desert chase, and tank battle were rather gripping. I'm GLAD people are starting to take off the blinders and judge this movie for it's self.

This is the HULK I remember form the comics. There was a lot of criticism about it when the movie came out but that was because younger fans were relating to the TV show. This was the real HULK. In the comics he got bigger and stronger when reacting to more stress. So more violence and pressure equals more stress. He was bullet proof and had as much strength as the given situation required. He did pick up tanks and use them as baseball bats the full thing. These were all things that some fans claimed the HULK couldn't do.

It's ironic now that I think of it. This was a little too auteur and cerebral for what people expected from a superhero movie in 2004, but I'm pretty sure now, after 15 years of studios running them into the ground, audiences would probably find this movie refreshing. The CGI still holds up btw. Compare this movie to dreck like The Marvels or Wakanda Forever

For the shot around the 1:00 mark, that was originally just the stabilized plate so the green effects could be applied to Eric's face. The motion was then suppose to be removed but the shot looked so interesting this way that director Ang Lee decided to keep it for the film (I believe there was a bit of the motion put back into in the end).

This Hulk is the most powerful and comic accurate. No disrespect to the later incarnations, including Professor Hulk. This Hulk had the concept of trauma down really well. Ang Lee knew what he was doing when he made this movie. What messed it up was the marketing. It was a year after Spiderman, the promos made it look like an action monster movie. And it was, but it was primarily a character study. I'm glad to see people giving this movie props, growing up all I heard was how people hated it.
I remember when I first watched End Game and Hulk lost to Thanos after a brief, weak scuffle. And then I think back to these scenes from the original and think no way that would’ve happened.
Not really though and it doesn't have anything to do with this portrayal of Hulk (which is awesome); is just who Thanos is. He has always been far superior to Hulk because he is one of Marvel's first major cosmic-level threats. While not strictly the first one (Galactus, Dormammu and Annihilus might want to have a word), Thanos quickly became one of the most iconic. The MCU chose him as the Big Bad for a reason. Thanos is one of those characters who can actually beat the Hulk fair and square, and there had been many moments in comics to prove that. Check _Thanos Vol. 2 #15 (2017)_ if you want a more modern example. Thanos kept Hulk chained as his personal attack dog feeding him his former teammates. Pretty darn brutal

The physics are spot on. Especially when wrestling with the tanks. Reminds me of the first Jurassic Park movie which still holds up to today in terms of physics and realism.

My favorite Hulk movie;have seen this over 50 times (got it on dvd when it first became available). Bana's Hulk and Ruffalo (especially chasing Black Widow in the Helicarrier) in THE AVENGERS are the best depictions of the character I've ever seen.
2003 Hulk would easily smack Thanos, and entire Avengers team including Ruffalo's Hulk. Ang Lee Hulk is so tall that he can grow up to the size of a 2-story house.

This movie came out 20 years ago and the special effects are so damn good that they rival what we currently get in modern movies. Just goes to show how far talent and great artistic direction can go. Even though this movie was mid, its got the best version of the cinema hulk in it, and that's why its still good!

I was 7 years old when this movie came out. The CGI back then still looks incredible. I'm 29 now.
I was a sophomore in high school. A friend and I walked in a huge downpour to the movie theater. Totally worth it!

The more angrier he became ,the more stronger and bigger he became. That's the true hulk and not the one from the Marvel movies.
My favorite Hulk movie;have seen this over 50 times (got it on dvd when it first became available). Bana's Hulk and Ruffalo (especially chasing Black Widow in the Helicarrier) in THE AVENGERS are the best depictions of the character I've ever seen.

Thanos' stones damaging this hulk would only make him bigger, till he reach the point where thanos can be easily squashed like a ant.

There should've been a sequel to this Hulk movie. We could've gotten more glimpses at how strong he really was.
This movie came out 20 years ago and the special effects are so damn good that they rival what we currently get in modern movies. Just goes to show how far talent and great artistic direction can go. Even though this movie was mid, its got the best version of the cinema hulk in it, and that's why its still good!

I always liked this Hulk the best! He looks like Eric Bana, he runs fast and jumps as far as the next state, and he's a giant bulk of very ticked off muscle! He's everything I remember from the comic book era! Eric played a great Banner too!
