UPDATE 6 Months Later: This camera is much better than I originally thought. I just shot a mountaineering film entirety using the GO 2 and I got better footage than I get when I bring along a GoPro. Easier to mount and the ability to reframe makes it super powerful. Watch the film here: ua-cam.com/video/yEyZwIx0fbY/v-deo.html
I heard about the re-framing option, and very much like the concept of this camera for my POV street photography videos. The audio is a worry, but other than that, it's so discrete and tiny! Just what I'm looking for!
How short is a short burst? How long can you record for until you need to charge it? 30 minutes? 3 hours? Vlogs go on all day. Also how much footage fits in the 30G? Like how long in minutes/hours? i love the magnet, hands free, recharging case, trying to figure out if i should get it. I'm always filming with the selfie stick, but am often carrying something else in my other hand (coffee, puppet mascot, accessory relevant to the video, having to get bus pass out of pocket, etc) so i'm really looking for a hands free one. Also wondering about the magnet, could i just stick it to a bus shelter or pole on the street and talk instead of taking out my phone on the slefie stick lol
A few notes after posting this video: 1. There is a GoPro style mount for this camera. I didn't know about it till the launch. Bummer its not included in the kit. 2. The Sticky mount can be washed off and reused. Still have to be careful in dirty situations
About the sticky mount: it's definitely meant be reusable with cleaning it. I definitely don't think it's supposed to be used on The more extreme kind of mountain biking like he was. I'm willing to bet that there is going to be some really nice third party keep it in place kind of mounting like a silicone sleeve that creates a tight fit and the magnet is extra. Overall the way that it seems for the use case scenario it's a pretty amazing little camera.
#1 omission from the kit is an odd choice #2 good to hear but longevity use after use? Would like a follow-up video in a month to let us know if/what shots you feel it really shines with and if that mount and others are holding up as well as day one.
I use it on a stick mounted on the back of my ocean racing ski to get an overhead view of what I need to do to correct my paddling technique. Works great in pro mode for stabilization. I get about 2-3 kilometers of paddling on the battery which is more than what I need. I also get some great shots of dolphins beside me and other water life when I wear it on my head. I will be using it on my head in races to track other paddlers. It is so suited to my sport.
I agree, I think what people "balk" at is the price tag in terms of bringing it up to GoPro pricing when so many people who Bought the original GO likely haven't used it much in the last 18 months due to the lockdowns etc. (Although to be perfectly fair a lot of companies are releasing products on or about the 2 year mark and their predecessor products have likely sat around underutilized).
Yes, it seems people keep picking out all these "flaws" yet they are not getting what this camera is about. That's the problem with "professional" or people who consider themselves "professional" videographers who review products like this. Ultimately any product is really just opinion based anyway
I think this seems like a great, convenient travel camera. Like you said, the mounts being magnetic makes a lot of action sports risky. But exploring new places and capturing memories without spending your whole vacation behind a lens? I can see it being convenient there.
I like it for travel as a b-roll camera that you can attach to your hat (although white might not be the best colour for that) in a casual usage case. The shirt pendant I'm less sure of as magnetics are nice but they are not a positive lock solution.
You will get some 10 minutes before it runs out of power, constantly check if it is recording, figure out if it is indeed video or photo, and wait for the app to link to the camera’s wifi, its a bad product. Wish I had seen an honest review like this one before buying it
I am here in 2022 and thanks to your video, I just ordered the Insta360 Go2 after watching videos comparing DJI Action 2, GoPro 10 and Insta360 Go 2. Thanks!
There are non-magnetic mounts that you can use with the camera. They even specify that the magnetic mounts aren't suitable for instances with large amounts of vibration or jarring movements. They offer mounts and adapters for those types of uses.
Think it’s awesome. The fact that you’re classing it as an action cam means it’s bridging a gap that the original one couldn’t. I think if you’re more realistic with its usage then it’s fantastic, although I do agree that the internal battery could have been stronger.
Watched a few videos today about this camera, I like your review as you do mention some faults which I wondered about in practically. Great as a b-cam for "impossible" shots where it's small size comes into play but as a main-stay action camera I agree with your review, you need to go bigger. POV drone pilots apparently are going nuts about it though.
i think drone people will soon realize that the video quality is just too low for anything useful. Its a 1/2.3" sensor cropped to a square, cropped to 16:9 with stabilization... its under 1/4" sensor in actual use.... the only way to get usable video, is to use the whole square.. with a lens that does not cover the sensor. One thing that is surprising though, its not a fisheye lens. They actually put a quality lens in it, so you dont have to waste extra resolution in correcting the fisheye.
@@Nobody-Nowhere I've seen some drone footage with the Go2, and if you know how to fly a FPV drone properly the footage looks smooth as butter without a significant (if any crop beyond the framing of the image circle on the sensor).

I got it for one month, I am very happy with it, but I found an important flaw: When the camera runs out of battery (after 19 minutes of pro mode video recording while mountain biking in my case) it does not shut down nicely, and the file is "corrupted" By corrupted, it means that the video cannot be opened from the insta360 app in my phone nor in the insta360 studio on my computer The file can still be open in video editing software (raw footage, in the "circle image" mode as in 4:20 of Jeven's video) , but my understanding is that the gyro data is not saved, so you loose the stabilisation and horizon levelling feature, and you will have to crop the video by yourself to get a 16/9 image. Another issue I noticed, is that the insta360 studio software allows you to change the point of view (up and down only, this is not a 360° cam) but you can only set one point of view before exporting, you cannot change it to look down at the beginning of the clip and look up at the end
I'm on my 4th review for this camera. Thank you for this, very informative! I think it is too small to expect everything from it, I'm trying to find something very convenient for b-rolls and city walk shooting. I already have regular size vlogging camera [Sony v1] and this seems like a nice device to compliment the main footage I get from the Sony camera.
I just bought one and been playing with it today and so far I think its great. It won't replace my GoPro for action footage but I will find ways of using it for this kind of use. I would never trust a temporary sticky mount or a magnet in a true action environment. but for a travel camera and for interesting new and cheeky angles I think its great. I've just sold one of my Hero's and some mounts and accessories to replace it with this.
30 minutes or two hours with the case. Temp can also be a issue with this camera especially with half the country in a heatwave. If it gets to hot it will shutdown. The small size doesn't allow for good cooling.
@@rsobies It’s still good for some short, special angle b-roll, hidden cam, time-lapse/hyperlapse. Not good for children to operate themselves. Not good for unplanned long recording for sports
I'm very interested in this camera, however the audio is the biggest issue I feel. I do POV street photography, and have an Osmo Action, which works great, but is huge! Especially in cities, I feel noticed with a big action camera. But this, despite lacking 4k, I could upscale the 1440p footage, and maybe there is an aftermarket wind muffler. If only it had bluetooth and a wireless mic option, as the dji pocket 2 does, or even a 2.5mm audio jack! Still, if the audio is ok, with a wind muffler, I am very tempted by something that I can stick to my chest, that is barely noticable, that is very wide angle and more crucially, self leveling. Hopefully this self leveling works when the device is mounted on my camera too! From your mountain bike shot this seems to be the case. Very tempting! Thanks for the great review!
Jeven, if the magnets are to weak, maybe you can replace original one with neodymium magnet which is super-super strong.Or you can just simply add neodymium magnet to the original. Believe me, you will need a lot of power to divide them.
So happy I watched this by the title I thought for sure it was a sponsored video, I actually scrolled over it twice for that very reason. Happy to find out it wasn't and I feel like you gave the most thorough explanation of its drawbacks.thx!
Great review. Sounds like an option only for short situations in which you need an unobtrusive video camera. Other than that, too limiting for other scenarios.
Yes, I will definitely get this one as this is quite small, lightweight, and works quite well too. But all I would need right now is the money to buy one 😅
Basically, the main things we'dwant for the next Insta: - Better Battery Life and, if possible, faster charging - More storage - Possibly even better image quality Maybe have a "Pro" version where the whole thing itself is slightly bigger, but has improved on these things.
Thanks for this good review! Mine is on its way. I plan to use it as a specialty camera for unobtrusive POV shots. It’s something I can just have in my bag or pocket. Combined with my phone, I won’t miss anything, even if I don’t happen to have any of my other cameras at hand.
I've been using it for quite some time now and I do bmx and mtb. I've found just putting a simple sleeve around the camera and pinning it to my shirt has made it so I've never once dropped it. Same with mounting it to my helmet with just some tape under the screen. The stickiness on that mount comes back after just washing it, that's part of the design so no need to buy a new one. Battery is kind of annyoing but works for me since I (like you mention) use it kind short. But they do have Cases and mounts that are just like the other ones with the two prongs n such that can attach even to go pro stuff. In the beginning, it was really confusing to not know what you're shooting but I've found it not to be a problem at all now. It's simple, fast, convient and once you've got some good lighting and figured out how to use it, it's one of the best I've ever had. :) oh and a simple rubber band or such on some mounts will make sure it's 100% stuck
I think its great as a near instant POV cam and as a supplementary camera to get those shots you wouldn't bother doing with a more professional camera. For POV people accept the "lower quality" for the unique perspectives. This camera does it really well.
I was planning to get this product until I saw your video and it changed my mind. You give great analysis detail and depth on the Insta360 Go 2 review.
I want this for roller coasters at those parks that are super strict about cameras. I'm sure I can fashion some kind of sleeve to attach it to one of my fingers and freely record POV and reverse POV safely and without someone noticing it.
Great review. Most of the reviews I have seen for this only talked about the positive stuff. Paid shills or maybe they were happy to get a free camera. You are one of the few reviewers that didn't have your head shoved up 360s backside spewing only positive S. Love finding reviewers like you. Never change don't let the man get to you.
Insta 360 has kind of lost his way! Too much camera releases that too little audience is going to buy! So what we need to upgrade from our insta 360 one x is a New insta 360 one x3 that shoots 8k with a good smartphone workflow very good colours and hdr video and good battery life! That is it! Love your channel mate!
Thanks for the great review! I narrowed down my choices between the Go 2 and the DJI Action 2. What ultimately led me to the Go 2 was the ability to change out the lens if it scratched. This was a huge negative for the DJI Action 2. IMO it defeats the purpose of it being an action camera.
I ride a motorcycle touring bike. I have two GoPro hero nine‘s. One on the front one on the back. I bought this Insta 360 go 2 for when we stop at a restaurant or stop alongside the road, or going to a convenient store. I can just hold it in my hand low and nobody really knows I have it. And I can get some surprisingly good shots. It works perfect for my application. The battery life is about 20 to 25 minutes Before it needs a recharge but I don’t have to worry about that since I put it in a case and it charges itself. Battery life is really short and you have to watch it. Don’t think this camera would be good for filming long segment. But it works great for me
For now I don't have any action camera, but I could use one though. Unfortunatlly I can't test any of it for my use. I eas looking for insta360 x2 but it's too expencive. I will have to settle with my phone for now. Keep up the good work I love it! 🤗
This camera is a very specific tool to get a Very specific content. Has some Tiny handicaps sure but there's no other camera like this. And even the first Go has some advantages over this one but hopefully firmware Will correct that (longer timelapse interval shooting settings)
I understand that we want "everything", but if they were going to add an exchangeable battery, screen, better mounting etc, it would probably be something really different, and not have the benefits that this camera actually has.
Name one universe in which ACTION CAMERA with ~10 minutes recording before it has to go back to charge and abysmal internal memory with no expansion (and ultra slow file transfer) is actually an useful product...
@@Micromation 99 percent of the videos I take are just a few minutes long so this is good for me. This isn't meant to to complete with a gopro. This is for people that want something smaller . Recording time is 30 minutes and 2 hours if using the case. 10 minutes was for the first model but even at ten minutes it would work well for me. Just depends on what you are going to do with it. I have two other cameras I use for other situations. It is great that all cameras aren't doing the same thing.
@@Micromation I'm looking for an action camera and I've been finding a lot of statements that most can't record much more than 10min due to overheating, even the newer GoPros. So yeah, I agree! They are all useless to me
Currently, I'm using a DJI Action camera to take daily time lapses of a construction project. I love the Insta360 ONE X2 on the end of a long selfie stick to be sure to capture moments when hiking, skiing, kayaking or other event where I want to be sure to capture many angles of view. The Nikon Z7 is for art. So, do I need a Insta360 GO 2. Yes, I feel it is a special use camera for short bursts where small or inconspicuous is critical. Then, of course there is the DJI Mavic 2 Pro which has it's unique applications. Aren't we lucky to have such an array of cameras to choose from !!!
I've just ordered this I currently have an osmo action and pocket along with my canon set up. I want to use this for POV behind the chair hair cut and colour videos. Adding it to the collection for that reason only and also i picked it up for £180
I wonder how much a camera, based on all the improvements that need to be made based on this video would be like? This would easily be a +$1000 cam... and then who would buy it? Just a thought.
Thanks for the honest review about this little camera! I just got one today, pretty excited about using it for casual video recording but I am wondering, if we can do recording while it is being charged? Thanks!
It would probably work for me since I don’t take long clips and I like the portable low profile look to it. I don’t like going out and holding my phone out looking like a vlogger from 2008.
It’ll be nice for when I travel and walk down like a street market where I don’t need to pull out my phone to record something I could just have this mounted on my chest ready to go. You suffer quality for convenience but there are things here you don’t get on GoPro unless you pay for the max lense
Hi Dov. I love your containt and use to watch all of your videos. I have 2 questions , Hope I'll get your response. 1. Can we connect external mic with this using C type port ? 2. How much minutes I can record in 30 gb ? 3. If some-one ask you to do vlogging on this, what will be your ranking out of 10. (in the sense of battery backup and memory while vlogging ?
Very informative. I really like the form factor and its innovative pros like the horizontal levelling and the various, interesting mounting options. But the audio and the no preview screen have me on the fence still. Subbed!
If your sticky mount isn’t sticky any more wash it carefully with mild soap and water and let it dry completely, that should restore the stickiness. I think it works with nano-scale structures and van der walls forces (like a gecko’s feet) and dirt clogs it up.
Flute or whistle videos. I love to walk the footpaths of my local area, I'm always finding bridges and beautiful places where I like to stop and play my whistle. I want to share these moments, but it feels wierd setting down a camera and walking away from it. I would wrist mount this camera or even flute mount it! Also those times at the beach. It's perfect for that. I have cameras I can use for other types of shot, this would only be used for 5 or 10 minutes at a time, but the weight on my wrist would have to be as small as possible. I can't think of a device that handles this better.
Hey Bro, thanks for the video!!! I am have just ordered one, can not wait to put my hands on it!!! Having your camera felling off the case while you cycling it hard but your back wheels that is really crazy 🙈🤣 watch out!!!!! 😊
Would this camera be practical to use it as a body camera? If you kept it in the center consul. If you got pulled over you could record the situation pretty quickly?
I don't think this was meant as an rugged outdoor action, I see it more as a casual use camera for creating short pieces of video. And feel it's a bit over priced for it's limitations. Good review, you showed that it wasn't a good replacement for people who needed a GoPro that could take on almost any challenge. But great for video of your daughter climbing up stairs.
LOL 5:24 I was asking this question in my head!! I was evaluating getting one of this in replacement for a GoPro 7 Black for MTB videos. This is one of my main concerns...
Not having 4K is a no-go for me, my main use is Overland. You know very well these use cases, I prefer to expose my Insta360 One X2 outside my truck and got 5.7K 360 videos or even 360 photos....maybe for in-cabin videos using voice over at post-production, but I think my Hero 8 Black does a better job for this deliver video 4K and decent audio....by the way, EXCELLENT videos from your Ponny Express trip from Justin and you !!
Hi question the videos you recorded with the insta 360 go 2 can you transfer the videos to the phone and then from the phone upload the videos on UA-cam I don't have a computer at the moment and I want to buy a action camera for bicycle videos
This camera is great and it seems it doesn't have any of the GoPro bugs. If the battery was any better... I guess they could have an accessory where there was a small "battery case" with the same magnets and contacts that could extend the camera only like a centimeter or so and could be used in every current accessory.
I love that you and Air Photography both dropped Go2 reviews within minutes of each other, I like your review because you point out some of the cons, like lack of mic in and relying on magnetic mounts and non-removable media. I might buy the Go2 for the super convenience but I already have a oneR and that will get so many of the same shots as this. I’ve used my oneR as an action cam and the workflow is more complicated, so I’m conflicted, will the simplicity of the Go2 encourage me to record more stuff vs the oneR (that sometimes I don’t bother with because it can be a PITA) and is recording more a good thing? Back when I did film photography (1980’s and 90’s) I was very selective about what shots I took because film was expensive, with digital I take so many pics it takes a lot of effort to sort through them all. I worry that with a Go2 I will end up with hours of video I don’t have time to process or review...
😂 I hve the same problem of too much footage and I never get to it all-but for this particular camera, you dont get that problem bc the battery life honestly is a bit stink. Now I fast forward through my footage and go yah or nah. Before I watched every second incase I missed something I could salvage...but yeh you dont hve the chance to overdo the footage really. Your battery will give up before you do.
It seems like a great little camera for sure! The only problem I can see is that it has a battery that is not serviceable. Any problem with it and the camera is done. Yes, it is smaller and lighter than a go pro but it costs almost as much. Too much for a throw away camera for me anyway.

It'll be a nice addition to our gear for our silent hiking videos. Thanks for the review!
Jeven, if the magnets are to weak, maybe you can replace original one with neodymium magnet which is super-super strong.Or you can just simply add neodymium magnet to the original. Believe me, you will need a lot of power to divide them.
Thanks will try this
I agree storage and battery life are two main issues, wish they sort this out in the next next version. great video
So happy I watched this by the title I thought for sure it was a sponsored video, I actually scrolled over it twice for that very reason. Happy to find out it wasn't and I feel like you gave the most thorough explanation of its drawbacks.thx!
Just got this and have had many of the different Insta360 cams . This will be good internally shooting stuff inside best.
Great review. Sounds like an option only for short situations in which you need an unobtrusive video camera. Other than that, too limiting for other scenarios.
Yes, I will definitely get this one as this is quite small, lightweight, and works quite well too. But all I would need right now is the money to buy one 😅
Hahahahaha
Basically, the main things we'dwant for the next Insta:
- Better Battery Life and, if possible, faster charging
- More storage
- Possibly even better image quality
Maybe have a "Pro" version where the whole thing itself is slightly bigger, but has improved on these things.
For better quality and battery a bigger body is required which will defeat the whole purpose.
I want to have one of these for my next project. Thanks for the awesome tips, tricks and reviews.
It’s such a great little camera for specific things like social media especially the aspect ratio switch in the fly...but oof at 300 bucks
It's magnetic so it opens up a lot of options
That's the kinda of usage applications I immediately thought of too.
The audio was actually pretty good. Except on the windy shot, but still your voice was very clear.
Magnet only seemed sketchy to me too. Thanks for the info on battery life and storage limitations.
But it works great for me
Ordered mine today. Looks like a good entry level cam
Probably the t best review on the Insta360 GO 2. The very honest review.
I've been using my 360 Go 2 to add first person perspective footage too my films filmed on my Sony A7s III
Your video is very understandable and Good..my question is all about the Audio of Insta360 Go2...its already install the audio of that Item?
I like the way you're explaining it.
they have a 2 prong mount that wraps around the camera and screws to a base/mout a la gopro style.
I liked your video just from the intro. But I've seen others and I definitely love the camera just debating on what I need it for.
Thanks for the balanced opinion of this camera through some practical usage👍
For now I don't have any action camera, but I could use one though. Unfortunatlly I can't test any of it for my use. I eas looking for insta360 x2 but it's too expencive. I will have to settle with my phone for now.
Keep up the good work I love it! 🤗
This camera is a very specific tool to get a Very specific content. Has some Tiny handicaps sure but there's no other camera like this. And even the first Go has some advantages over this one but hopefully firmware Will correct that (longer timelapse interval shooting settings)
So if you wanted to use in water , you can’t use the case but won’t you keep hitting record or stopping record without knowing ?
Thanks for the video. Great stuff. What would you estimate the continuous use battery to be in minutes? Thanks
30 mij
Adding it to the collection for that reason only and also i picked it up for £180
Do you think nd filter is must buy for go2?
I wonder how much a camera, based on all the improvements that need to be made based on this video would be like? This would easily be a +$1000 cam... and then who would buy it? Just a thought.
Uhhh... GoPro 9 Black already exists and isn't even half that.
and it's huge by comparison and can't do a lot of what this camera can.
Hey, there's lots of other extra accessories which allow you to try different mounts!
the problem is battery and that expansion card.
i know its small and waterproof though.. hard choice
Thanks for the video. I will aim for ONE X2 probably.
is this a good camera for my cat?
Thanks for the honest review about this little camera! I just got one today, pretty excited about using it for casual video recording but I am wondering, if we can do recording while it is being charged? Thanks!
I want this device.... Watching from the Philippines
Hey Jeven, thanks for this video.... I have one question, which mic did you use to record this video?
It would probably work for me since I don’t take long clips and I like the portable low profile look to it. I don’t like going out and holding my phone out looking like a vlogger from 2008.
dammit... i went out and bought the camera before this one because you reviewed it... guess i'm gonna have to get this one now. looks cool though
Final an honest review, well battery is important because its an action camera.
I have not tried this, but I wonder if those anti-snore nasal strips would be handy to "lock" the camera into those magnetic carriers.
It’ll be nice for when I travel and walk down like a street market where I don’t need to pull out my phone to record something I could just have this mounted on my chest ready to go. You suffer quality for convenience but there are things here you don’t get on GoPro unless you pay for the max lense
I’m looking small camera for road cycling and I think that’s good idea 💡
After this review 😃I am Fully confused.. whether to buy it or not 😂
im waiting for the GO 3 or 4, hope the battery got better
Up next: Charging case with SD card slot to transfer data & charge camera
Thanks for your review. I would like to know if we can use this as dashcam that has loop recording function.
Super helpful, thanks! I’ve been checking out reviews of this camera and the GoPro 9, and waffling between them. Maybe I should get one of each ha ha!
Both are good for different reasons. This camera is super simple to use but your limited in many ways but it is super small compared to the GoPro
Best review of go 2
Subbed!
highly recommand to set up by one click for photo shot and double clicks for flim recording. Then it would be fine if touch the button uncarefully.
If your sticky mount isn’t sticky any more wash it carefully with mild soap and water and let it dry completely, that should restore the stickiness. I think it works with nano-scale structures and van der walls forces (like a gecko’s feet) and dirt clogs it up.
I’ll try that. Just sucks how fast it lost stickiness. Cleaned surfaces and was only able to mount it a few times before it was useless
I'm just glad that he didn't have a hole in his pocket!
8:37 This is exactly the reason why Im buying this camera.
Love it thanks
How's the battery performance? How long does a single charge last?
Not super long. Go to their site and they have specific times
How Long does the Camera shot for with 30Gs? An hour? 30 mins? 15mins? or does the battery die before it runs out of storage space?
Your battery will give up before you do.
thank you so much sir, for me you are the great if the topic is about vlogging equipment..
It's so compatible! I want to get one of them!
It seems like a great little camera for sure! The only problem I can see is that it has a battery that is not serviceable. Any problem with it and the camera is done. Yes, it is smaller and lighter than a go pro but it costs almost as much. Too much for a throw away camera for me anyway.
Any workarounds for exporting media. Little storage banks?
This camera is everywhere on YT. I obv. ordered one....
