Enjoyed the video... I am thinking about trying to find a ct70 around here in Mississippi seems like there should be tons around still or in a barn somewhere... I can remember 3 or 4 folks having them back in the 70's... I know one guy now that has 2.. one is almost mint...who knows what he would want for it.... I used to have a late 70's Honda XL 125 and traded it for a hang glider back 81.... glider would be worth but about $300 or less today and the bike would be worth $2k or $3k at least now.... lol

From previous discussions with clone owners we came to the conclusion that there are possibly only one or two Chinese companies making these copies. However, like the Ice bear etc, if you order enough units from them, say 200+ bikes, they will put whatever name on the decals that you want. Hence over the years there being so many different make models out there, that are the same basic bike. Handy for parts interchangeability.

The Rupp has the identical seat on it that my 2007 Lifan had, the same two tone colour. Also my Lifan had a sounder built into the flasher unit, to help remind you that the indicators are on. It kind of sounded like a damp fart.

It floated around between two or three guys in my neighborhood for a couple years, then I eventually bought it. It was a great little bike. I sold it to a subscriber in Kentucky.
In my opinion, all the clones are pretty good bikes. Just like name brand bikes, they sometimes need a little dialing in to fit you and your riding style, but I would never shy away from buying a clone. The only reason to not purchase a clone is if you’re worried about resell value. Unlike the original Honda’s, the clones do not hold or increase in value over time.

@@MiniBikeMike I did research on this bike. Conflicting stories of this bike being contracted by Honda then pull the plug on the project because they didn’t meet Honda standards. Another story is the run was cancelled because the Rupp family rise came of the use of their name. Anyway there was only one run of these and are rare.

    • @MiniBikeMike

The Honda connection was fabricated by someone who didn’t know the story. Production was stopped after two model years. Their use of the Rupp logo and name was unauthorized. Mickey Rupp sued, won and production ended. Rare? I’ve seen a few around my area, I wouldn’t call them rare.

in the 70's. Rupp was to Honda as the Chinese knock-offs are to Honda today... only worse... Never knew they did clones too; Most of them were pure garbage. This would have been a flagship for them. Odd that somebody would want to revive a brand name that was never good lol.

In the 70’s, no one compared any bikes to others. There was no social media for riders to voice their opinions. I was around during that time, you rode whatever you could find and loved every minute of it. Honda wasn’t considered any better than anything else, back then. Having owned a few hundred Hondas and over 50 clones of Hondas…..I don’t see any difference. The clones are as reliable as any Honda I’ve owned.

I enjoy your videos and learn a lot about the Trail 70 bikes but I think you might get in too big of a hurry when you're doing some things like the speedometer for instance. Personally if I were going to get that far into fixing something and rob parts from a different piece to fix the part you're trying to get right I'd have vacuumed the loose dust and broken plastic chips or whatever got in there since the lens had been broken for who knows how long and cleaned the speedometer real good and then the replacement lens and seals, bezel etc because it'll probably not get dirty again for a long time now that it's fixed and somewhat sealed. That's half a**ing it to me. And the carburetor, why stop at just cleaning the jets? You know if the jets and the fuel bowl looks like that the rest of the carb probably does too, the needle and seat probably need cleaned and all the tiny ports inside. A piece of dirt or sand is going to get stuck much easier in a carburetor that has a lot of sticky gunk in it before it'll get stuck in a smooth, squeaky clean one. If I get into a carb that far the whole thing gets cleaned not just a couple pieces. That's just preventative maintenance and I haven't seen you do much of that, at least so far after a couple videos. The last video you put a 140cc Chinese engine in and disconnected the rear brake lever and didn't clean or lubricate the pivot point before slapping it back on. Things like that will work much smoother and quieter and last longer if you take some time and lubricate it from time to time. And I'm guilty myself of not maintaining every mechanical piece of equipment I have like I should but if I'm already working on a part that requires periodic maintenance and cleaning and or lubing I'm for sure going to do it while I'm working on it and it's already apart.
